Mortal Kombat 1 Fans Disappointed As Definitive Edition Launches On Xbox

Mortal Kombat 1 made its debut for Xbox Series X and S (as well as other platforms) back in September of 2023, and there's a lot of disgruntlement over the decision to release a Definitive Edition by surprise over the past few hours.

Mortal Kombat 1: Definitive Edition includes the base game along with all previously released DLC (as well as some new movie skins) for £54.99 / $69.99, and there's concern in the MK community that it means the game is basically finished with adding new content - after less than two years on the market.

Some have pointed out that, clearly, Warner Bros. Games is suffering a tough time right now, and that explains why Mortal Kombat 1 is seemingly reaching end-of-life status, but it doesn't prevent loyal MK fans from being disappointed.

In terms of what's next for the franchise, you never know what's around the corner, but we're assuming Injustice 3 might be next in line for NetherRealm Studios - unless Warner Bros. doesn't want to take that risk. As that one commenter mentions, perhaps work has already begun on a new Mortal Kombat game instead... we'll have to wait and see.
