Over 50,000 Votes For 'Xbox Game Preservation' Titles Have Been Submitted In A Week

Just over a week ago now, we highlighted a new resource called Xbox Game Preservation that had been set up to track the most-requested backwards compatibility additions from the original Xbox and Xbox 360 eras.

At the time, there had only been around 5,000 votes submitted on the site, but when Xbox revealed at GDC a few days later that backwards compatibility would be getting some kind of revival in 2026, it sent those votes into overdrive. In the past week, there have been over 50,000 votes submitted to the Xbox Game Preservation website.

We have a vastly different top ten as a result as well! When we originally covered the resource, The Simpsons: Hit & Run was followed by Silent Hill 4: The Room and Burnout 3: Takedown in the top three positions, but now none of those games are in the top three, and only The Simpsons: Hit & Run remains in the top ten!

Here's a look at the current standings:

  1. Jet Set Radio Future
  2. Sonic Heroes
  3. Sonic The Hedgehog
  4. The Simpsons: Hit & Run
  5. Sonic Riders
  6. Spider-Man: Web of Shadows
  7. Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions
  8. Crash Twinsanity
  9. Transformers: War for Cybertron
  10. Shadow The Hedgehog

As you can see, it looks like some major Sonic fans have been taking over the votes over the past few days, and it's pushed some big games much further down the list β€” Burnout 3 is in 19th place, Blur is in 27th place, Def Jam: Fight for NY is in 28th place, and Silent Hill 4: The Room is all the way down in 32nd place.

It's also worth noting that the "Top Franchise" for requests is Skylanders, with a combined 8,500+ votes across all the the Xbox 360 titles in that series. We're not quite sure why the individual Skylanders games don't show up in the top ten rankings, but in any case, there's clearly a lot of demand for Xbox to make this series playable again!

Of course, Xbox Game Preservation is not an official Microsoft resource and there's no guarantee anyone at Team Xbox will pay attention to it when deciding on potential backwards compatible additions, but nevertheless, it's quickly becoming a central destination for fans' requests when it comes to new BC titles.

We do need to say this a little louder for everyone in the back though β€” just because Xbox backwards compatibility is being revived in 2026, it doesn't mean we'll necessarily get any new additions to the program on console. The revival might be entirely based around adding existing back compat games to PC, for example, or even adding new tech features (similar to Auto HDR and FPS Boost) that can get more out of these older titles.

Secretly though, we do feel like there could be a few console additions in the works for later this year, and we're certainly hoping that's the case. Whatever happens, this 'Game Preservation' resource is proving an interesting new find!

How do you feel about the top ten as things stand? Could we see any of these added to BC in 2026? Tell us below.
