Ever since Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard a couple of years ago, there's been speculation around whether World of Warcraft might be getting a native Xbox console release - after all, it does have gamepad support these days.
Blizzard has remained quiet on the topic for the most part though, and in a new interview with Windows Central, WoW game director Ion Hazzikostas advised that the focus for World of Warcraft still remains on PC as things stand.
Here's a bit of what he had to say to the outlet:
"If we were actively working towards bringing World of Warcraft to consoles or a bunch of other platforms, we'd be saying: 'we're actively working towards this. We have a lot of work to do but it's a place where we want to land.' Our focus remains on the PC-based experience."
Of course, there is still a way to play World of Warcraft on your Xbox console if you're desperate - I've had some good experiences with it courtesy of Nvidia GeForce Now. That's not the same thing as a native release though, and requires that you have access to a stable and reliable internet connection (along with ideally a mouse and keyboard setup).
It's been suggested that the next Xbox console could feature the ability to play PC games from different storefronts, so perhaps that's the goal from Blizzard's perspective - wait until the next console arrives and then avoid having to develop an actual native version for the Xbox console ecosystem. In any case, it sounds like we're going to be waiting a while until console users can access a non-streamable version of World of Warcraft.
