Unless enjoy, 8 bit NES, jumping over lava pit games from the 1980s? Essential is the only way to go. Especially when looking at that $30 month Ultimate.
Ultimate likely going to hit $40-$50 by 2027. Microsoft only shooting self in foot at this point.
Bungie wanted to create a Halo MMO (early screenshots can be found online) but Microsoft said not going to happen. So bungie threw a fit and left.
Playing destiny, at least I could tell and feel, is straight up reskin of that Halo MMO. Lot gunplay and weapons, enemies and their movement and attacks. Felt just like big rehash.
Probably bungie just wanted to not waste the production cost and changed the world and lore to something new. Called it destiny. Rest is history (in how to ripoff your fanbase and nickle and dime them).
I'm a star trek fan. But did anyone else try star trek online and were totally lost?
The map on the starbase thing I had no idea where I was, where needed go. The starship upgrade system I was lost. Starship combat I was lost. Getting and selecting and activating and choosing quests I was lost. Was just lost at anything. Really bummed me out.
I play elder scrolls online, so I'm not completely ignorant to MMO type games. But star trek online? Goodness. Thought all interfaces were just absolutely terrible and not intuitive in any way.
@OldGamer999 I will forever despise pc gaming. Zero desire in constantly buying new cards, memory, motherboards, or whatever other nonsense just to play new game.
Console, put disc in, install disc (which still bothers me), then play the game, never have worry about getting new console for about 10 years.
Simple. Easy. And it works. No need for second mortgage get new graphic cards to play game that just came out.
I'm still looking for a quality, wireless, but affordable Xbox style controller for Playstation.
Only reason not purchased Playstation is because of the controller. Despise their shoulder and trigger buttons and placement. Also can't stand the positioning of sticks. Xbox nailed it with off center placement.
But sadly this is EXACTLY what nadella is going for with everything Microsoft. Just need add in an unnecessary, overpriced subscription for anything possible. And that is nadella's plan. He needs to go. Like yesterday.
But I still stand firm that Halo 4 multiplayer was the absolute best out all them and it is not even close the one with most amount of hours I spent in any Halo multiplayer.
It is also important, full disclosure, I absolutely detest any and all Call of Duty multiplayer.
@AverageGamer Nadella was in Microsoft before the promotion. I'm willing to bet money he was making decisions in and for other areas as part of grooming for the new job.
Everything wrong with Microsoft falls squarely on nadella's shoulders.
I really believed the next gen console Microsoft was going do Xbox like the Switch console.
But over last couple months really feel I'm very wrong with that belief. Believe now it will be normal console with no dock to be optional handheld mode.
@Runex2121 "expected to go along with the $50 a month gamepass sub.(future pricing)"
Be very careful even joking that. I still stand by my prediction that will be reality within next 2 years. Yet....
People here did not respect my opinion or thoughts on that and even insulted me. Which is very much against forum rules. But I end up being the one that could not post for like a week - - if you follow what I'm saying.
Can't make this stuff up. I really thought on being financial supporter for the site and display blue ribbon. But treatment like the above absolutely removes my goodwill.
@TDHorizon Gaming developer budgets are absolutely insane. They really need scale back costs to sensible and sustainable level.
First step to cost reduction is the voice acting. I could just as good a job, or better, as vast majority of what's out there now for lot less. If they are in doubt, absolutely feel free contact me for quality at reasonable and fair price. That is not sarcasm or bent funny. That is me being serious.
@WildConcept6 Game Pass mostly likely will hit very close to $40-$50 month by end of 2026. Only thing that might save that obvious price gouge is how many people left game pass (which I hope is ALOT - just on principle).
I would be significantly less against the price gouge (as I've said numerous times) if they offered a yearly price that had drastically reduced price it would be much better. $180 at most.
Ohhh, it feels just soooo good to be back guys and gals. Missed everyone!
@WildConcept6 The Series S was and still is a mistake. It holds the Series X back. And can argue Series S being the lowest common denominator across all consoles, it's holding this gen back from reaching full potential.
Before anyone jumps in saying it's the greatest console (and let's all be honest, it's because it's cheap) or whatever other reason they try to justify its existence. I'm talking about the technology of Series S. It's weak, it's flawed, and it was an completely unnecessary console. It's holding back this gen.
@Ricky-Spanish Definitely has my attention. So much so, if I was given choice - - leave Xbox Live alone and still release the Series S, or never have Series S release and have Game Pass instead. I'd pick release the Series S.
Yep, I despise Game Pass that much. And that's coming from me.
@Ricky-Spanish @Lanmanna Game Pass business model is insanely flawed and incredibly unsustainable.
For at least two years I've continued to beat that drum and tried to brace everyone in order for game pass to survive it will most likely hit $40 - $50 a month within a few years. Very few believed me. The time is here. It's coming. And soon.
Game pass is not a good thing for gamers or developers. People are finally (though slowly) starting to realize this. Xbox Live was perfectly fine since it's inception. There was no need to mess with it. Any time a corporation starts to twist a narrative of something to have it sound great for consumers is when consumers should immediately take notice to change that narrative back.
Corporations are not out to help you, unless it's to help you unnecessarily part with your money.
@FraserG More importantly I must ask, why did game pass have be pushed on us at all?
Xbox Live had less issues, minimum price increases, better deals for yearly subscription (which game pass still has none, even to this day), less controversy, less confusion due multiple tiers, etc.
It wasn't broken. Microsoft did not have fix it. Been extremely disappointed with game pass since the beginning with it being forced on us.
@EvenStephen7 "Well there's proof that the critics were right: Gamepass was unsustainable. Now it's quickly veering from "the best deal in gaming" to a niche service."
That is EXACTLY what I've said for at least two years now and in my past above (post #234). People made fun of and laughed at me. Guess who was right all along? Yup. Me.
If not a member, I really really, really, really, encourage ALL of you to look into it. All the benefits it offers, plus the service outweighs this price hike rubbish.

Re: Xbox Game Pass Essential: Full List Of Games (December 2025 Update)
@ZYDIO Xbox Live was far superior to anything Xbox offers now.
Plus could buy 12 month Xbox Live card (something ANY level of Game Pass FAILS to offer) for $40.

Re: Destiny 3 Is Apparently In 'Extremely Early Development', Should Still Launch On Xbox
Wonder if Destiny will keep the same business model of, incredibly overpriced DLC, that severely lacks in content.
Then pulls it from server where people can no longer play the DLC they paid for.

Re: Poll: Now That The Dust Has Settled, Which Xbox Game Pass Tier Are You Subscribed To?
@Gabrie If Microsoft offered 12 month plan for Ultimate (which they should have LONG time ago) say like $200 - $220. It would been smartest move.
Willing bet lot this backlash going on been heck lot less.
Re: Poll: Now That The Dust Has Settled, Which Xbox Game Pass Tier Are You Subscribed To?
I said years ago this was coming. Game pass is incredibly flawed and unsustainable business model and it would be $40-$50 month in few years.
I was not wrong. Not be surprised by end of 2026 it's $40 or hair shy.
Warned everyone it was coming. No one took me serious.
But I was right.
Re: Sony's Purchase Of Former Xbox Studio Bungie Isn't Exactly Going To Plan
@You-come-to-me Halo 4 multiplayer still the absolute best of the series and the only halo multiplayer I ever actually enjoyed.

Re: Sony's Purchase Of Former Xbox Studio Bungie Isn't Exactly Going To Plan
Oh I don't know?
Maybe because Destiny's whole business model is - - excessively overpriced DLC, that severely lacks in content? Then remove the paid DLC from servers.
All the above is why I quit playing destiny after the first DLC from Destiny 1. The game is straight up grift.

Re: 20+ Games Are Reduced By 90-95% In This Year's Xbox Shocktober Sale

Mainly since bungie removed some paid DLC (yes, paid DLC) from servers and players no longer access it.
