In case you missed it, Microsoft announced the date and three confirmed games for the Xbox Developer Direct 2026 showcase today, and one of them is a game that many thought might get delayed to 2027 in Playground Games' Fable.
Its appearance at the event suggests Xbox is still targeting 2026 for Fable, and the developer has shared a brief teaser on social media ahead of January 22nd, hyping up how the team is ready to show "much more" of the game:
That's the first tweet we've seen from the Fable account since June of 2024, so it's pretty significant! Note how it also says "our first deep dive", so perhaps there's more to come — suggesting perhaps a late 2026 launch rather than early.
Xbox will surely still want to avoid the pitfalls that come with releasing close to GTA 6 in November though, so here's hoping we'll be playing Fable by around September at the least. We might know for sure in a couple of weeks' time.
