A new year unfortunately brings 12 more months of server closures throughout the gaming industry, and as we look ahead to the rest of January 2026, there are three games confirmed to be shutting their servers on Xbox so far.
The most notable of the three is undoubtedly BioWare and EA's Anthem, which was delisted on Xbox back in August but is now shutting its servers off for good in January. As an online-only game, Anthem will no longer be playable in any form (on any platform) after its server closure date of January 12th, 2026.
Q: Why can’t I play Anthem in offline mode?
A: Anthem was designed to be an online-only title so once the servers go offline, the game will no longer be playable.
EA has another official server closure for late January in NBA Live 19 as well, although players have been reporting issues with that game's servers for months now. Ambitious free-to-play game Warlander will disappear forever in January too.
Here's the list of Xbox games shutting down their servers in January 2026:
- Anthem (January 12, 2026)
- Warlander (January 20, 2026)
- NBA Live 19 (January 30, 2026)
We thought we'd have a fourth title to add to the list until recently — WWE 2K24 was set to shut its servers in January, but it's since been announced that the closure has been delayed until March 31st. Nevertheless, the game and all its DLC will be delisted across all platforms by the end of January.
Looking ahead, Project CARS 3 will be shutting its servers in February, and then games like New World, NBA 2K25 and TopSpin 2K25 all have placeholders for the end of the year, but there's not much else to report right now. Server closures are often announced quite last-minute, so we expect a lot more to be revealed as 2026 rolls on.
We'll be back next month with another list of games shutting their servers, and we'll obviously update this list if we learn of anything else closing down on Xbox in January 2026.
