One thing that's interesting to observe is that everyone hates Jim Ryan. This guy has actually created some common ground in the withering console wars. Also, if Sony is 'winning. It's because they are able to make popular games and get them out the door in a timely manner. MS is finding that this ability is not something that you can apparently just buy wholesale. Don't worry, I have harsh words for Nintendo too. Up thru the Wii U/3DS gen, Nintendo was a very interesting and creative player. But after that, they sold their creative soul to the devil for the 'success' of the Switch. Nintendo is now devoid of any spark or creative joy. They've been milking the Wii U era Mario Cart for what feels like almost a decade now.
As someone who believes in physical game ownership, I'm not hyped for GamePass or any other digital subscription model. Since these big consolidations are designed to feed the all-digitial subscription model, I'm not a fan. We are rushing towards a future where no one owns anything and massive corporations hold all the cards. If we don't actually buy games, how do any of our choices register...and something you don't own can be taken away at any time.
I kinda miss the old 'console version' because it was far more optimized and responsive. I guess it's still included but now abandoned. The bedrock edition is so janky, buggy, and slow. All they care about is that messy integrated store filled with overpriced garbage.
This article really steps over the line. This website needs to objectively review these games in a few weeks...how can you declare them to be beautiful and gorgeous already? These screenshots were provided by the company, you can't assume they are final or accurate to every system. Please try to restrain yourself and at least project some semblance of objectivity. The gushing over these games here boarders on sponsored content.
I'm most excited about more games being added to BC. I found a cheap copy of Advent Rising and picked it up on the rumors it might be added for the 20th celebration.
I play with my son and we like the game alot, despite many bad design choices: DLC levels are too long to replay, Ancient Hunt gear offerings are a pain, and Raid Captain banners make levels unplayable. We play anyway despite the issues, but I hope they keep refining the experience.
My experience mostly consists of plugging into the wrong port and not being sure what happened. But sometimes I think that I should hookup a PS3 to it and get some use out of it.
It's probably too late one way or another, but after Cyberpunk this kind of thing may not go over well. People equate a trendy celeb with a half-baked game, it's the new FMV game. This will probably turn people off.
I bought Minecraft Dungeons and both Ori games on my Xbox S, because it would mess with my mind too much to see Xbox Games logo coming up on my Switch or PS4. Likewise, I get weirded out when I see old Spider-Man games on the Xbox 360.

Re: Star Wars Outlaws Has 'Gone Gold' Ahead Of August's Xbox Release
I thought this already came out and bombed (due to ridiculous DLC).
Or maybe I'm just psychic...
Re: Three Activision Blizzard Titles Expected To Join Xbox Game Pass 'Very Soon'
They need to add all the Activision 360 titles to Backwards-compatibility.
Re: Lots Of Games Are Reduced By 90% On Xbox This Week (July 2-9)
Black (OG Xbox) is $1 on 360 and is backwards-compatible.
Re: Xbox Insists It's Not Ditching Physical Games: 'That's Not A Strategic Thing For Us'
Why is MS recalling all copies of Starfield from Walmart?
Why are they landfill-ing physical copies of popular games?
This is a terrible, adorably all-digital look for MS.
Re: Hi-Fi RUSH Celebrates First Anniversary With A Free Bundle
Too bad there's no physical release.
When I pay money, I want something in exchange.
Otherwise, I just wait for the lowest possible price.
Re: Xbox's Physical Games Departments Reportedly Affected By Microsoft Layoffs
Dark Days...
Gaming Sites need to cover the Starfield situation.
MS is recalling copies of Starfield from Walmart to landfill them.
MS seems to really want to remove Physical as an option.
Re: Five Years On, Batman: Arkham Collection Is Dominating The Xbox Charts Once Again
I was slightly tempted by this collection, after getting Series X for Christmas...
But Arkam Knight only runs at 720p on all Xbox, that's atrocious in 2024.
They also just updated the game and did nothing to fix this issue. No sale.
Re: New 'Xenia' Emulator Makes Xbox 360 Emulation Come Alive On Xbox Series X|S
If Xbox allowed & supported Emulators (like Android), it would be huge.
I'm not talking about piracy here...I'm talking about playing off your discs.
Imagine putting in PS1/PS2/360 discs in and just running the game on Xbox.
Sony would never allow it, so emulation could be a huge win for MS.
Emulation is completely legal if you own the disc and play off it.

Re: PlayStation's Jim Ryan Continues To Dismiss Game Pass-Style Launches
I very rarely agree with Ryan, most of his takes are terrible.
But I think he's right about this, Sony's pockets aren't that deep.
They can't afford to put their AAA output in a Subscription Service.
Not now anyway, unless they grow the service by a massive degree first.
MS was able to everything at once because money was no object (go big or go home).
Re: Digital Foundry Questions The Need For Mid-Gen Console Upgrades
I'd like to see soft launches with better versions of all the consoles.
Like when Nintendo just started making Red Box Switches with better battery.
PS5 need more built-in internal space and needs more USB ports.
Size of the thing is also an issue, so Sony definitely needs a SKU update.
All these companies might want to get costs down & streamline components too.
Switch OLED should replace base version at $299. We can do better now.
Re: Xbox Boss Wants Starfield To Be The 'Most-Played Bethesda Game Ever'
I don't see how it could eclipse Skyrim, that game's on like 10 platforms...
It's been re-released like a dozen times everywhere on everything (even VR).
Re: Minecraft Dungeons Celebrates 15 Million Players With 'Festival Of Frost' Event
This game is most fun in local co-op...
So making that new Tower Challenge thing single player, was a huge mistake.
We haven't played the game at all since, but maybe I'll turn it on for the cape today.

Re: Deals: All 50+ Backwards Compatible Games In The Xbox Lunar New Year Sale 2022
I was hoping for more Sega games (Otogi)...
Re: Microsoft Is Buying Activision Blizzard, Reportedly For $70 Billion
Personally, I think the Bethesda buyout was a much bigger deal despite costing much less.
Activision deal seems like more of a PR stunt due to the huge price, bloat, and the fact that Activision is a shadow of it's former self.
This is the exact opposite of buying some edgy new studio on the way up and more like buying Yahoo or Xerox.
I guess my other question: is the end of 3rd Party Studios and Muli-plats good for gaming?
Re: Deals: All Classic Xbox Games In This Week's Sales (January 11-18)
The classic portion of this sale is super disappointing.
I was expecting 20+ back-compat games, not just a couple.
Hardly worth a separate article...
Re: It Sounds Like Quantic Dream's Star Wars Eclipse Is Still Many Years Away
By hiring QD to make a cinematic Star Wars game, it feels like Disney is afraid to make another Star Wars movie....
Re: Ten Of The Best Backwards Compatible Games From Xbox's 20th Anniversary Celebration
I was happy to see the games they added, but $20x2 for Otogi is high.
So I just ❤ favorite them for some retro sale in the future.
Re: After Today, Xbox Won't Be Adding Any More Classic Backwards Compatible Games
Really bittersweet to add so many games and then just end it like this.
I can't lie, this just sucks so bad right now and is a huge mistake for Xbox brand.
They have billions to spend on acquisitions, but can't afford a small BC team?
They just added a bunch of games that are physical only, so rights aren't the issue.
We already own the games that everyone wants, so I'm calling BS on this shutdown.
They just don't want to bother & that's a huge mistake. BC is what made Xbox different.
Re: Xbox Adds 76 Games To Backwards Compatibility Including TimeSplitters, Max Payne & Star Wars
I was and am so pumped for any BC news...
BC is a huge advantage for any consoles maker with longtime fans.
So why do they keep saying they're done with BC???
"surprise addition of more than 70 games will be the final time we’ll see new backward compatible games"
WTF
Re: 37 FPS Boosts Added To Backwards Compatible Games On Xbox Series X|S
I've seen comparisons with the original Nier and the 360 looks better.
Now with the FPS boost, that's another big advantage for 360 classic Nier.
Unfortunately, the 360 version is also pretty hard to find compared to the PS3 version.
Re: Various Xbox 360 Games Have Received Unexpected Updates
I had 22 updates...super excited for more BC developments!
Re: Rumour: Xbox Fans Will 'Definitely' Want To Watch The 20th Anniversary Show
My hopes?
20 new BC games added to Xbox One/Series.
I have stacks of OG Xbox and 360 titles that need BC support.

Re: Xbox's Official Website Is Suddenly Rocking The Old Xbox 360 Look
I'm most excited about more games being added to BC. I found a cheap copy of Advent Rising and picked it up on the rumors it might be added for the 20th celebration.
Re: Brace Yourself, The GTA Trilogy Remaster Could Be Pretty Expensive
Given how little they've shown, this feels scam-ish even at $60 (much less $70).
Re: Xbox's New Internet Browser Is Out Now, And It's A Major Improvement
This is cool development...
Most game console are losing their browsers.
Re: Guide: Is Microsoft Flight Simulator Coming To Xbox One?
Release date is still 'up in the air'... hilarious.
Re: Minecraft Dungeons: Ultimate Edition Launches This Month Alongside New Echoing Void DLC

Re: Soapbox: Now That It's On Xbox Game Pass, I've Finally Discovered The Joys Of Gang Beasts
My son wanted this and I actually paid $20 for this.
No idea how this is like 8-10GB, there's no content here...
I was hoping there was a short side scrolling beat'em-up campaign, but no.
All we found was a few goofy multiplayer arenas for screwing around in with AI bots.
Re: Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance Is Now Available With Xbox Game Pass
I watched a major YouTube review (think it was ING), game is pretty poor.
Bland, repetitive, and buggy as hell. Very lackluster story too sadly.
Not surprised Devs decided to take that sweet GamePass money and run like hell.
Re: Rumour Claiming Microsoft Is 'Changing The Culture' At Bethesda Was 'Inaccurate'
It's really too soon for this to be true...
It would take at least a few years for parent company to change culture.
Something similar happened at Blizzard but that was well after the Activision buyout.
Re: Microsoft Denies Dolby Vision & Atmos Will Be Two Year Exclusives For Xbox
If this is true, they should have announced it at launch.
It doesn't benefit anyone to have something like this coming out of nowhere.
Devs need to build features in way ahead of time and many movie fans need to know too.
Unfortunately, most game consoles don't make good movie players anyway (except PS3).
Re: Soapbox: I Spent £150 On A Harry Potter Game And Have No Regrets
These games are pretty pricey now, but most of them suck.
The first three are supposed to be good, but they're so dated otherwise.
For the casual Potter fan who plays games, I'm not sure it's still really worth the trouble.
Re: Saints Row: The Third Remastered's Xbox Series X Upgrade Is Out Now
Surprised they're still working these games like crazy.
The developers got laid off and the studio was closed years ago.
Re: Xbox Dev Responds To Report That DRM Is A 'Serious Problem' On Xbox Series X
Not super worried now, because Big Three aren't going anywhere.
But I appreciate security researchers who look into these connections anyway.
Before Sony, Nintendo, or MS retire a digital platform, they need to decouple the online.
Re: Rumour: Wait, Is Tom Cruise Going To Be In Starfield?
It's probably too late one way or another, but after Cyberpunk this kind of thing may not go over well. People equate a trendy celeb with a half-baked game, it's the new FMV game. This will probably turn people off.
Re: Microsoft Confirms It Never Earns A Profit On Xbox Console Sales
I wonder if it's really that open and shut?
If manufacturing costs fell, systems could be briefly profitable.
But then they usually course correct and then do a price drop.
Maybe the reason they say they never made money ever was the RRD.
That cost them Billions, so when you factor that in, they alway lost on hardware.
Re: Video: Here's The PlayStation Intro To MLB The Show 21 On Xbox Series X
I bought Minecraft Dungeons and both Ori games on my Xbox S, because it would mess with my mind too much to see Xbox Games logo coming up on my Switch or PS4. Likewise, I get weirded out when I see old Spider-Man games on the Xbox 360.
Re: Industry Reporter Claims Fable, Perfect Dark & Everwild Are 'So Far Away'
MS does alot of things really well.
Delivering great 1st Party games on time isn't one of them.
I don't really see this changing any time in the immediate future.
Re: YouTuber Aims To Prove Morrowind Can Reboot The Original Xbox Without The Player Knowing
Why does anyone doubt this?
Howard discussed it regarding his long history w/ MS.
The Switch can also run firmware updates without owner consent.
Re: Reaction: As The PS3 Store Closes, Xbox Reminds Us How 'Critical' Game Preservation Is
When Nintendo closed the Wii store, was everything lost?
Can you even re-download your Wii purchases anymore?
I don't think previous WiiWare purchases carried over to the Wii U.
I'm just asking because Nintendo potentially started all of this...
Re: Review: Balan Wonderworld - The Balan-dest Platformer On Xbox Series X
They made a mistake putting this game out at $60.
At a lower price, the expectations would've been lower.
If the game was $39, the reviews might be more like 5/10 or 6/10.
Re: PSA: If You Bought The Disc, You Can't Upgrade Tony Hawk On Xbox Series X
Is this a bug or a feature?
Can't they fix this or was it by design on purpose?
Re: Another Three Games Will Leave Xbox Game Pass Soon (March 31)
How long do 3rd party games stay on GamePass?
I've been surprised to see people calling GamePass a rental service...
I'm a physical ownership gamer, but I was wondering how fast these games come and go.
Re: Insider Advises What To Expect From Rumoured Xbox Bethesda Event
If they have an event, but don't announce anything...
People will jump all over that and be very disappointed.
