Re: Rumour: Xbox To Release White, All-Digital Series X This Summer

Maybe a cheaper white 1TB version and a black 2TB version at the same price as the disc version? Seems reasonable to me then.

Anyway they should release an external disc drive that also works on Series S. It's no wonder Xbox doesn't sell much physical games anymore when 75% of your customers bought the cheap box.

I still buy physical games whenever possible, mainly so my kids can play them on their own consoles. I don't believe their is any digital alternative for this use case instead of buying them multiple times for each accouny unless playing them on the same machine. Also I just like the boxes on my shelves and fear the power these companies have with the ability to just ban your account.

I would understand if they would step away from new physical releases, but since Microsoft is so big on the backwards compatibility thing it would be a big problem if they'd stop offering a physical drive on their future consoles. Maybe they should consider an optional external drive.

@Dezzy70 no one ever said you need a 12 bit panel to take advantage of a 12 bit signal. Your tv does a lot of processing before sending the image to the panel. That is what HDR tone mapping is all about. Compare it to taking a photo in 16 bit RAW and editing it on pc to finally get an 8 bit jpg as output. The additional bits give you more room for editing.

Besides who knows if the xbox will use 12 bit DV? Not all DV blurays and none of the streaming services do.

The fact that our current tvs can´t produce that many nits doesn´t matter either. In fact, the dynamic metadata of DV has the most effect on tvs that don´t, because they´re the ones that need most tone mapping.
