Oblivion Remaster

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is getting a lot of praise from fans and critics, and it seems even former Bethesda developers are impressed.

Speaking to VideoGamer, the title's original senior game designer Bruce Nesmith, who left Bethesda during development of Starfield, has admitted he's not sure the tagline of "remaster" does it justice. He expected it to be a texture update, but feels it's more of a "complete overhaul".

"To completely redo the animations, the animation system, put in the Unreal Engine, change the leveling system, change the user interface. I mean, that’s, you’re touching every part of the game. That’s a staggering amount of remastering. It almost needs its own word, quite frankly."

Overall, Nesmith feels proud to see that a game he worked on "has the longevity to generate interest 20 years later". As for what exactly he would call it, he says it's more like an "Oblivion 2.0" if it had to be categorised. In the initial reveal showcase, Bethesda even went as far as describing this remaster as Oblivion in its "most complete form".

We've already taken a look at the remaster here on Pure Xbox and feel it's set a new standard for both Xbox and Bethesda - in terms of the overall facelift, full-on gameplay changes, and even the price point on top of 'day one' Game Pass availability.

How are you finding this remaster so far and do you think this title does it justice? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
