Re: Xbox Is Reportedly Working On A 'Monster Hunter' Style Exclusive

Dm9982

@Broosh Dark Souls is on my backlog, I started it up not to long ago but got pulled away by MH Rise, lol. If I wasn’t getting back into Skyrim for a third time currently I’d likely be diving into DS. My only fear with DS at this point is really enjoying it, and then having the series split across multiple devices, bahahaha. I’ve got DS Remastered on Switch in a sale.

And def get around to Witcher, you won’t be disappointed…. We’ll maybe you will, but in a different way. The game can seriously ruin other games for you…. It’s like when Ocarina of Time released and was a pinnacle of gaming for a time; nothing could compare. Lol! But that opening in White Orchard for Witcher 3 is lengthy and slow compared to the rest of the game. On the plus side, shortly after White Orchard you enter Velen and have access to one of the best story lines in the game @ Crows Perch and the story of Uma.

Re: Xbox Is Reportedly Working On A 'Monster Hunter' Style Exclusive

@Broosh that’s what I had heard. I never got into God Eater when I saw it while working a GameStop years ago, didn’t even know what it was like. When GE3 released on Switch, and my friend had told me it was basically like MH with Hunt/Build/Hunt progression, I snagged it. I dig the setting and such, but like with any MH or MH style game, the first hour or so of tutorials and mini creature hunting is just a slog. My “Gamer ADHD” won’t allow me to stop, chill and progress and instead says, “Yo, you got a billion games in your backlog, try another one…” 😂😂

Hell, I didn’t even get around to finishing Witcher 3 until last year, after owning it 3 different times - Ps, Xbox and Switch…. White Orchard 6+ tutorial is a slog and a half. Finally forced myself through that, and once the game opened up truly it was amazing….

So yeah, starts to games can be the difference on if I continue playing or immediately move on some times. I’ve been spoiled with amazing opening sequences like Mass Effect, or get straight to it with Breath of the Wild or Hades….Hand holding kills me.

For reference, born in 1982, grew up with NES/SNES/Genesis where tutorials and such were non existent lol. Yeah manuals existed, but I never really checked em till after the fact. Or just to look at the pretty art like Zelda and Mario manuals.

I’m all for more MH goodness, can’t wait for Sunbreak on Switch! That said, it’s a very hard niche to copy and do well…. The biggest one that’s similar is God Eater, and that has failed to capture me so far…. Granted I’ve only spent 30-60 mins with it, and need to give it more time.

As an MH vet since MH on PSP, even Monster Hunter World failed to draw me in…. It looked amazing, but felt to “hand holdy”… Supposedly it’s much better now after Iceborne, but I’m near positive it won’t top MHGU so I haven’t bothered.

Re: Talking Point: What’s Your Scariest Video Game Moment?

Dm9982

My top moments

Resident Evil - Dogs bursting through the window on your second hallway pass.

Resident Evil 4 - Infected Dogs in the maze…

Eternal Darkness on a low psyche run, everything so creepy then….

Doom 3 I think it was…. First 30 mins, a demon bursts out of a pipe while walking through a hallway. Had the room dark, surround sound on. Jumped so friggin high….

Corpse Party - whole game was awesome and creepy.

House of the Dead: Overkill - the ending… yup, that’ll scar ya….

Re: Diablo 2: Resurrected Players Are Calling For Refunds Following Launch Issues

Dm9982

@Richnj see here’s the problem, the game itself works great. Better than it did in the 2001-2005 time frame I played it even. The servers on the other hand, worse than the same time frame, lol.

Offline wise though, game is great. And as I tested above, Airplane mode bypasses the auto connect to bnet and allows you to access offline chars without issue. Just not sure if it’s possible to disable internet on Xbox and still boot D2 like switch….

Re: Diablo 2: Resurrected Players Are Calling For Refunds Following Launch Issues

Dm9982

@InterceptorAlpha Jesus…. None of this surprises me though. Anyone who’s been a blizzard fan since 1999+ knows they’ve NEVER had a smooth launch of online features / games. Most of the time they misjudge just how many players are gonna hammer their servers.

Still; I really wish they’d make Offline
mode truly offline without having to connect to bnet first. This especially makes no sense when you consider Switch is mobile and isn’t online 100% of the time unless you’re always home / hotspot…. It would make MUCH more sense to allow you to play offline saves without connecting to bnet first.

Edit - After a quick test that I hadn’t tried before, if you turn on Airplane mode before booting up D2 (On Switch) then it bypasses connecting to bnet and allows you to access the offline chars. Hmmm, nifty. Wonder if disabling internet on Xbox works the same for the game?

Re: Diablo 2: Resurrected Players Are Calling For Refunds Following Launch Issues

Dm9982

@InterceptorAlpha yeah that’s why I mentioned it at the end. It’s goofy and I don’t quite understand the decision. I mean the online chars are protected from mods/cheating by being stored server side, and since offline chars can’t go online, it makes no sense to lock them behind connecting to bnet.

I mean I fully get why they don’t allow offline chars to go online; just look at Borderlands 1&2 and all the modded weapons/shields etc…. But to lock offline chars behind the online wall is stupid.

Re: Diablo 2: Resurrected Players Are Calling For Refunds Following Launch Issues

Dm9982

Man this is just like 2001 all over again on PC…. The servers were so congested (2m+ players) that wait times and lagging out were normal accepted occurrences.

Hopefully they get this rectified on Xbox soon. I got the game on Switch first, and thankfully haven’t had any issues. Only been playing solo online or duoing with a buddy over seas, and we’ve had no issues. If they can get it fixed soon, I plan on double dipping on Xbox.

I will say connecting to their servers just to access offline mode is silly af. The only 2 reasons I can come up with are a form of DRM, and ability to apply hotfixes like Borderlands w/ Shift.

Re: Talking Point: How Do You Feel About The Witcher 3 Six Years Later?

Dm9982

@everynowandben Np! It’s a common issue with the game. It got super hyped up as one of, if not the best, action rpg made.... then has the slowest/longest opening ever. A lot of people, myself included, questioned the sanity of others after playing for a couple hours.... but once you get towards the end of White Orchard, face a wraith and battle the Griffin, it truly starts opening up. All the best stories are in Acts2+ when you’ve progressed to Velen and beyond.

So it’s one of those things, like Monster Hunter, push past the opening salvo of droll, and trust that the rest is well worth the effort.

There aren’t many games I personally place alongside Link to the Past / Ocarina of Time, but Witcher 3 is one of em.

Re: Talking Point: How Do You Feel About The Witcher 3 Six Years Later?

Dm9982

@everynowandben If the game seemed/seems interesting to you, I’d highly suggest trying it again and giving it more time. I had a similar issue when it launched on PS4. The main problem is White Orchard is more or less a 5+ hour tutorial. It’s by far the weakest section of the game, and very slow. The biggest highlight for me in there is the Wraith in the Well quest, as that’s first and really only time during White Orchard that you feel like a Witcher. Trust when I say the game REALLY opens up after White Orchard and you really start to feel like you’re on an adventure. There are so many amazing moments after the beginning area.

Re: Talking Point: How Do You Feel About The Witcher 3 Six Years Later?

Dm9982

Witcher 3 is amazing, and one of the best games ever created. I’ve bought it 3 times so far, PS4 first then Xbox One, and Switch. I only ever fully completed the Switch edition, which was amazing especially for a handheld. I’m eagerly awaiting the next gen upgrade on Series X for a second run through.

Honestly, if it weren’t for Zelda having a special place in my heart since Link to the Past, Witcher 3 would probably be my fave game of all time.

Re: Apple Devices Now Support The Xbox Series X Wireless Controller

Dm9982

Finally! Hope this improves my remote play a bit, although I think I need faster Internet to truly make it work. So weird I can play cloud games, like Control on Switch, without issue, but remote play has always been an issue for me. Granted, my ATT DSL upload caps about 1.5mb.... that’s probably the bottleneck for it...

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Buying In The Xbox Spring Sale 2021?

Dm9982

Snagged the Arkham trilogy as I never got around to playing City & Knight. Sadly most of the stuff I own on either Xbox or PS4 and don’t want to double dip.

I was eyeing Kerbal Space, but I guess the console port doesn’t fair well according to player/reviews I googled? They were also from 2018, maybe it’s gotten better??

Re: The Witcher 3's Next-Gen Update Will Arrive In The Second Half Of 2021

Dm9982

@MaccaMUFC I bought the game 3 times - PS4, Xbox, and Switch. And never finished a full run until Switch version. Been waiting on Series X upgrade to do a second run. However I still wanna do a second run on Switch for NG+ Gear, lol. May have to do 2 more runs!

@Dezzy Same here. I still have yet to buy CP2077 - though it’s on the list, CDPR is an amazing dev, and I have full faith they’ll get the game into an amazing state.

Re: Voice Actor Of FemShep Overjoyed By Mass Effect Legendary Edition Trailer

Dm9982

@Liam_Doolan I had to double check to make sure, but you could indeed create a Femshep in ME1-3, but it was likely not marketed as such. Jennifer Hale even voiced her back then as well.

A quick google search of Mass Effect 1 Female Shepard pulls up the results.

This all said, it wasn’t Marketed as such, Femshep was not “official” inside the story, and wasn’t a default option. You had to do character customization just to access her, which many may have over looked. The canon story for ME1-2 featured a male Shepard.

Re: Voice Actor Of FemShep Overjoyed By Mass Effect Legendary Edition Trailer

Dm9982

Been awhile since I’ve played the series, it was great and groundbreaking. But I recall rolling with Femshep in all three entries..... maybe they’re just talking about voice acting? I honestly don’t remember if my FemShep had voice in ME1&2, but I do know I rolled with her - she was my renegade adept through the whole series and still have the save files.

Re: Poll: Did You Buy An Xbox In 2020?

Dm9982

Pre-ordered a Series S (which arrives tomorrow) when things were looking dire for getting an X, and ended up stumbling on an X at Target last night. So I guess I own both now? Lol. Oh well, I can use the S for a second room / kiddos.

Edit - Feels so good to have my library back. Owned OG Xbox, 3 different 360s, and an XB1 (which I wasn’t a fan of over the PS4 - interface was sluggish comparatively) that I sold to a friend when I thought I was going to get a 1X. Glad I just waited and got the Series X, so smooth and awesome! Missed my Fables and Fallouts sooooo much!
