@Banjo- Also I truly hope you can enjoy Starfield. Bethesda games are magical. Fallout 3, NV, and Skyrim are in my top 10 (all lumped together). So much fun exploring. They and Breath of the Wild invoked that awesome sense of exploration and reward for doing so. Witcher didn’t have that as much as it had just beautiful amazing story. Around every fricking corner a new drama would unfold.
And if Starfield has mods, there will indeed be a 60fps mode patched in, regardless of its official or not. Just look at the Skyrim mod scene. Holy hell, those guys are amazing. There’s mods that make it look like a fully different game or like it was made for current gen
@Banjo- Yup last Gen was wicked for games and motion sickness. Newer higher fidelity plus unstable frames. Nasty times. Fallout 4 on XB1 gave me issues, but not on PS4 Pro. Now on Series X with the frame boost enabled it gives me no issues thankfully. Witcher gave me headaches on PS4/Pro and XB1, but no issue with the new SX patch.
Hogwarts is probably me best example from current Gen games, as I haven’t gotten far into Elden or Cyberpunk (about 15 mins each)…. Played Hogwarts for about 3-4 hours. Tested the 3 modes on X - Performance, Quality and Quality RT. Quality RT looks absolutely stunning, nearly like a real movie. Performance runs smooth as silk, but takes a massive hit on overall graphics compared to QRT. Plain Quality mode is the perfect mix, fidelity with SOME performance. And it runs the best for not messing with my head. Though I’ve been playing the most on QRT just because it’s so hard not to for how good it looks. But I do have to take breaks every now and then because of it.
@Banjo- Lol, I don’t blame ya. I’ve dealt with motion sickness all my life. I can’t ride in the back of cars at all, and even being a passenger next to the driver can bother me after long trips. That’s how I discovered Dramamine, it’s over the counter. Oddest part to me is I’m fine on the water. I can fish off a boat or rolling dock all day long without issue.
Something about stuff moving fast or in odd ways in my peripheral vision though…. That messes with me. And the science behind it all is just a miscommunication between your eyes, ears and brain. Your ears provide the balance and tell your brain your stable, while your eyes tell the different story. Your brain gets confused and literally goes into “I’ve been poisoned” mode. No lie, look it up. The Dramamine just corrects the issue.
But fun fact, since this is your brain thinking you’ve been poisoned, you can also train your brains tolerance. About 3 days of just dealing with on/off breaks, will train your brain to not have the issue anymore. Don’t let yourself get violently I’ll, just play for 15-30 mins, whenever the sweat kicks in. Then stop. Do anything else but don’t play any games for 2+ hours. Then go back to it, hit the sweat limit again and stop for the day. Repeat the next day. Should find yourself lasting a bit, but not much longer. Repeat on day 3 and you should barely feel anything, but that may take till day 4. (This is doin it the old fashioned hard way, the way I used to play and beat San Fran Rush 2049 on Dreamcast, and Turok 1&2 on 64, and how I adjusted to Doom 2016 on my Series X, tho I had no issue with it on Switch a few years ago, go figure)
@TheSimulator try reducing any/all of the following options - motion blur, chromatic aberration, screen shake, camera movement. Those are the main offenders of motion sickness in gaming. Frame rate doesn’t play as big a part unless under 30fps. Frame PACING however, regardless of 30-60fps can still cause motion sickness. Nothing you can adjust there as that’s in game coding.
If all of that fails to help, I recommended Dramamine / Dimenhydrinate as it’s super effective at stopping motion sickness. And more over, MOST people can adjust to the game / sea waves around day 3. So around then you should be fine to drop the Dramamine and play normally without issue. (Very long time motion sick sufferer here, learned all the tips and tricks). I’ve personally used this to get adjusted to Borderlands 2 and 3 since FPS bothers me the most.
@Banjo- @mac_da_man Hahaah, you guys should see some of the Facebook game groups then. Wow is all I can say. My friend shares posts from some of them, and it’s just baffling…. It’s like a meeting where entitlement and cancel culture collide. Holy crap.
@Titntin well said! And yeah I believe the options should be there. I only get annoyed at the gamers that state “no 60fps then is garbage and I’m not playing it”. It’s like seriously? You’re gonna miss out on a great game just because it doesn’t have a visual option you want? I understand completely if playing at 30fps or less causes you motion sickness (remembering Turok 1&2 and San Fransisco Rush 2049, all the frame stuttering and sickness I had to suffer through…. Ugh)…. And I also understand skipping a game if it doesn’t have accessibility options you need to play like colorblind modes, or full subtitles for the deaf….
But to skip a game / bash it, just because its not running at 60fps just because it’s the mode of preference….. baffling.
I think some “gamers” should go and beat 25 NES games, 20 SNES games, & 15 N64 Games. Then come back and realize how silly that all is. 30 & 60 fps…. Sheesh. Y’all, we were lucky if the game didn’t straight skip frames or fail to render some enemies. So many mega man deaths to “blipping” creatures…. Or Turok deaths to frame lag….
Edit - Also, learned another new bit of info. That there were frame pacing differences between LCD and OLED…. That explains so much of why I’ve had more difficulty in the XB1/PS4 Gen than during 360/Ps3….. I played on a 720 32in Samsung LCD, then a 1080 Samsung LCD 50in, and now a Samsung 65in QLED. I never thought about the fact that the tv might be ever so slightly stuttering the picture or that it was showing stutters more pronounced!
@BBB As a fellow motion sick sufferer I feel your pain! I’ve wanted to play my copy of God of War on my PS4 Pro for so long, but I can only make it in 10-15 min bursts before I get dizzy. I’m hoping when I get a Ps5 that the increased frame stability (and I know there’s some blur and camera stability patches now) will help alleviate that.
An option I had in the past was taking a Dramamine tab (used for seasickness) about 15-30 mins before playing a game I knew could/would cause motion sickness and that would work like a charm. Usually a few days of that and my brain and body would be adjusted to the game where I wouldn’t need the Dramamine anymore. Sadly this is no longer an option for me as it conflicts with one of my new daily meds I need to take.
For any other motion sick sufferers out there I HIGHLY recommend Dramamine. This the name it goes as in the states, but outside of the states you’re just looking for the medicine called Dimenhydrinate. It’s been around for a long while and used to treat seasickness/motion sickness, and outside of ginger root, is the only thing proven to stop it completely. Ginger root can too, but not as effective. They did a whole mythbusters episode on the stuff.
@XsERTzX tips hat Glad to bring a chuckle in these bonkers times of gaming.
If anyone truly wants to point fingers at a piece of hardware being the blame for optimization the fault truly lies in standard PCs. When games are made, coded, etc with PCs in mind at the same time as consoles, then the optimizations run wild to allow for lower spec machines, super high spec machines, and everything in between.
If a game is hard coded to say Series S, X, and Ps5 then the specs, OS, and everything are locked in for those 3 devices. No variance in between. Games of this nature tend to run smoother and look better. And historically speaking the Vice versa when you toss in making it run for PC. One just needs to look at past Bethesda games and Witcher or Cyberpunk. All those ran best on pc (where they were more optimized for) versus console (where they needed a lot of work).
@BBB i always forget if it’s 21 or 24 here stateside, but I learned something new about UK side! Thanks for that! And I knew we’re, depending on person, capable of going around 30fps IRL with some higher, but it’s also why a large percentage of the population gets “bothered” by turning on a favorite prerecorded episode of their fave show, like House MD for example, which wasn’t recorded with Live Motion in mind, in Smooth/Fast/Live motion (aka 120/240hz) whatever your brand calls it.
The other reason goes into the Uncanny Valley effect, where if something looks too real our brains say “nope!”.
In my case, games that run at or around 30fps are perfect. Even FPS, which usually causes motion sickness, tends to do ok for me. Now when a game gets cranked to 60-120fps, my eyes start to hurt after awhile, and even 3rd person can make me nauseous.
I do agree on choices, as that should always be a thing, and in those case something that could easily be patched in later. Hell I believe all games should come with either a cheat mode/cheat codes, or accessibility options for those lacking ability or time. I miss the days of Game Genie….
What I don’t agree on is writing a game off, or blasting the devs for their choice. Is your choice more important than theirs exactly? They made the game, spending hundreds of hours of time creating it. But on the flip, you’re spending $70+ of hard earned cash. I’ll call that a draw, and at the very least be happy the game exists and you have the means and ability to play it.
Didn’t anyone’s mother teach them not to judge a book by its cover?
@XsERTzX @Zoidpilot4 gaming for about 35 years here. And it’s quite amusing, and annoying, to watch so many gamers act so entitled anymore. They complain and write stuff of so easily. These same people will also complain when their 8k/120fps game costs $70+ to buy. Some people weren’t around during the unregulated NES/SNES days when they’d charge $80-120 for some games. Toys R Us Killer Instinct listing for $84.99, anyone remember that? The whiner generation, smh.
It’s understandable when a game like Cyberpunk releases and it’s a hot mess. But 60fps? Come on. That only matters in online shooters like CoD, frantic shooters like Doom, or fighting games. Adventure story driven games like Starfield, Mass Effect, Witcher, etc…. Largely does not matter. The human eye can’t even process the data that fast. Which is why tv shows and movies are shot at 21fps, but if you toss your tv into 120-240hz mode everything looks “live action” and jarring at the same time.
I’d rather play a single player game with higher fidelity and a stable/locked 30fps than 1080@60/120….
Also, and serious question, if this has ray tracing built in…. Well, do any games exist on Xbox/ps5 that run ray tracing and 60fps? Cause I honestly can’t think of one.
@Banjo- Nice! Same here on the Nintendo systems, though I did have a Virtual Boy for bout 10 days. Had Tennis and Wario, both gave me headaches / made me dizzy so my dad returned it lol. My first xbox was the original fatty. Got it specifically for Fable and Knights of the Old Republic, great games! But I wasn’t a serious xbox fan until 360 and games like Dead Rising and Crackdown, plus the backwards compatibility with OG Xbox games. Fable 2,3 and Fallout 3/NV furthered my love for it.
@Banjo- playing since Tri as well (I tried Freedom Unite on PSP, but couldn’t get into back then)
I have a Series X as well. I tried to get into XB1 but it just didn’t perform as well as my ps4 at the time. Traded and was gonna get a Scorpio but decided to wait for SX, ended up getting both an S and X for Xmas (didn’t think the SO was going to be able to secure an X, lol) 2020. So glad to have the X, makes all my XB1 games run so much smoother. Especially FO4
@Banjo- D3 isn’t bad per se, but it’s just not as good as D2 or 4. 4 is what D3 shoulda been.
Dragonball FightersZ is what I would recommend for DB fighting. But if you like open world rpgs with a combat similar to fighting style, Kakarot and Xenoverse are also good. Xeno 1 is super cheap on sale usually if you just wanna test the waters.
Edit - Also Monster Hunter is a great series for relatively easy control (depending on weapon choice) and highly rewarding. Second only to D2 in the rewarding aspect. World and Rise are a bit easier to pick up. But Generations on Switch is the best in the series.
@Banjo- Go for D4 if you want a more laid back approach to an rpg. Nice dark theme, and such but it’s still laid back comparatively. D2 is a more rewarding game, still with easy controls. But don’t let that fool you, Hell mode (lvl 70+) can be no joke to the newcomer. I suggest rolling a summon Necro, or Hammerdin build Paladin for starting in D2 so you can beat Hell and start hearing other chars.
D2 also has more soft walls, where it’s encouraged to go back and farm bosses a bit for better gear before progressing.
D2 as a whole operates a LOT like Borderlands 2 (half the team that made BL2 are from the original team that made D2, so nearly the same systems)
Edit - plus D2 goes on sale for $12-15 pretty often
@Banjo- Sure gamer tag is the same as my user on here. Mainly been playing Diablo 4 lately, but I’m down for some mess around matches on SF6 when ya get it.
@Banjo- I Concur, SF2 was basically the pinnacle of SF I think. I prefer the New Challengers Version cause Fei Long was just so fun. I’ve been half tempted a time or two to grab the 30th anni compilation or the Switch remaster.
DBFighterZ suffers from the “so fast can’t react” just like Smash Bros (which I enjoy, but so much going on on the screen it’s hard to tell wth is happening half the time), however DBFZ does have a super easy control setup to make things so much easier. Highly recommend that one to any fighting fan, and you can get it on sale on Xbox or Switch for like $9, $14 if you wanna all the fighter passes too.
@NEStalgia Diablo 2 is a really good example of a game done so well, it’s worth continuing playing 20+ years later. D4 is fun, and a lot better than D3. But D2 is like a slot machine that occasionally rewards your dopamine with an overload of glory…..
Like ya said, easy to pick up and understand, controls and interface aren’t overbearing - D4 is a little bit more bloated here tho, but not much. And it’s stat management. Elden/Dark are just the opposite, not much info to manage, some stats here and there, but a simple control interface…. Dodge/Parry, Counter and repeat till dead.
@Banjo- You’re welcome! Yeah I wasn’t going to buy into SF6 until I saw the World Tour / Custom char stuff, AND I watched a few live streams on TikTok. Slower more deliberate fights, which isn’t a bad thing. Closer to MK11 style but without ultra long combo strings with complex timing/memorization. And I like the adjustments to Ken. He use to be flash, flare and fast. Now he’s focused and more pin point attacking.
@Banjo- SF6 is good. Way better than any other SF game in the last few generations. And yeah I play on and off between Classic and Modern. Modern you’re stymied into a little less control over your character - 3 basic attacks instead of 6, and no variation on Supers. Classic is superior for overall control and it’s still very fluid.
Ken plays well either style. Juni I think her name is, the one that only uses her feet, I can tell she’d be much better with classic style. Feels kinda pigeon holed with Modern. Also played Zangief on Classic and Modern. He transitions well too between the styles.
I haven’t messed with the World Tour yet or Battle Hub. Though I’m REALLY interested in starting the World Tour. The last time I was this excited for a fighting game was Def Jam Vendetta. Something about making your own fighter in an rpg setting is just amazing.
Edit - forgot to explain the fluid part. Hits transitioning into other hits/throws/etc seem a lot more fluid and smooth than in previous entries. Maybe the input frames are spot on or something. But combos aren’t hard to pull off, and the game isn’t modeled after stringing together the biggest combo you can. Instead it’s 1-2 hits then a throw, or a super. Then back and repeat. Sure there are bigger combos, but for the most part that’s how the game is modeled, and it gives it a more natural sense of pace, almost like a real fight.
@Banjo- Same here. While I think a lot of passion and creativity went into the Mario 3D titles post N64, I still think Mario 64 has the most heart and best level designs in Mario 3D. Same with Zelda, OoT is still my favorite 3D Zelda. Wind Waker was pretty, but overall felt more empty, and I wasn’t a huge cel shade fan at the time. Twilight was gorgeous for its time, but felt like an over stuffed OoT. Never played Skyward cause I don’t enjoy motion controls in action/adventure games. BotW had much of that same shock as Wind Waker did for me - “this is not Zelda as I know it”. Once I quit thinking of it as Zelda, and approached it as if it were Skyrim/Fallout, I enjoyed it a lot more. But I still don’t feel like it’s a Zelda title, lol.
Funny thing about Mario Odyssey, I’ve found myself enjoying it more watching my kiddos play it than I did when I played through.
And you just brought up fighting games. I grew up with the OGs of Street Fighter 2, MK1, and Killer Instinct. And yeah I’ve done the old 15 button input brutalities on MK3, Lordy those were a chore. I’ve played most of the latest fighters here and there, and while there’s some nice stuff, honestly the best addition to these newer fighters is “modern” control schemes. SF6 is so much more fluid than SF4 or 5, or any other fighter bar DBFighterZ which is just the perfect setup. I swear no genre, besides MAYBE point n click, has escaped bloating of systems over the years
@Banjo- I Was specifically referring to the time frame. Zelda, Mario, and Metroid all have historically has long periods in between releases save for a select few in their series. That’s all I was saying. At least us Nintendo and Xbox fans aren’t dealing with what Castlevania fans are…. No new update to the IP since the days of DS - minus the Apple Arcade title which doesn’t play like SOTN, the GBA titles, or the DS ones….
@NEStalgia Well said! I think that maybe now people will start understanding why Miyamoto said there was a ceiling on graphics, and why Nintendo took a laid back position with their console capabilities. No point in having the most powerful gpu if it’s just gonna take you even longer periods to take advantage of.
Do wish the Switch had a bit more power so multiplat ports would be easier, but that’s another topic.
Beat this back on 360, was a hell of a ride. Played just like RE4, but with the absurdity of Suda51. Was a really fun romp, but def only a 7/10. With enough polishing and smoothing out the rough edges it could be a solid 8-9 though, it has the potential. Give it more of an RE5 set up - aka more actions, stuns and melee attacks….
@Green-Bandit Same games man, same games! I’d be fine for years. I’d add Monster Hunter in there. Rise is good, but for value and so much stuff, Generations is the pinnacle. MH, Borderlands and Diablo are the only games that have that “oooh a piece of candy, ooohh another piece of candy!” Slot machine like effect. Every drop is a dopamine hit!
@Green-Bandit Lol same here with D4. I’ve been playing the crap outta D2 on Xbox and Switch lately. Quite enjoyed the beta for D4. I liked it a lot more than D3, which wasn’t bad, just more actiony/casual I guess? D2 is gritty, and I had a similar feeling with D4. Like a perfect mix of D2 and D3.
@Green-Bandit lol thanks, yeah I try to approach things as logically and efficiently as possible…: As much as I wanted Zelda TotK physical to match my BotW copy…. since they brought back the voucher system in the US and I wanted the Bayonetta Origins game, it made so much more sense to buy a voucher pack and get both of those for $100 rather than 60 and 70….
I love both physical and digital, but anymore I usually go digital. I’d be physical only if we still had the awesome cardboard boxes with box art, manuals and such. But anymore it’s just a disc/cart, plastic case and an insert that you could print out yourself…. Plus digital has one huge boon I love, ability to take your entire collection wherever without lugging around a ton of game cases or a binder.
@PROPS Yeah I loved Doom 2016, got it on PS4 originally and played a bit, but didn’t fully get into and finish it until I got it on Switch. When Bethesda had its last huge sale on both Switch and Xbox I snagged both bundles digitally so I could always have em. I originally traded my Switch Doom copy to buy another game at the time, always regretted that. But I Haven’t been into multiplayer on shooters since Gears 3 lol. Anymore we play Diablo or Borderlands as our multiplayer fix.
@Green-Bandit Yeah it’s handy, especially if one console has to be replaced/repaired. And thanks to super sales you can usually get large amounts of games for the price of a new one. I got ME Legendary editon Plus Andromeda for $30 total, and all the dragon age games for the other $30.
Fable 1-3 plus all dlc can be gotten for about $40 total if ya wait, Fable Anniversary goes on $10 sale every now and then.
I snagged Doom and Doom Eternal plus all dlc for both for $30. Witcher 3 complete can be gotten for $20 or less. Fallout series can be gotten for about $40-50 with all dlc I believe when they’re on sale. And I managed to get all the Assassin Creed games plus all dlc for about $60-70, minus Ragnorok at the time. Gotta love those massive sales!
Funny enough I bought a Series X to access my 360 and XB1 digital catalog. I had a bunch of games digital like Fable, Fallout 3/NV/4, Witcher 3, Skyrim, Dead Rising1-3 on the Xbox platform but couldn’t access it because I’d sold my XB1 within a year. Didn’t like the dash/slow speed compared to my PS4.
Now that I’ve got the Series X, I’m rebuilding some of the digital library I had on PS4, like the Mass Effect and Borderlands collections, Dragon Age collection so I’ll have them regardless of platform. Most of the libraries can be bought on sale for dirt cheap too, so it’s not a big deal rebuilding em. Except for when licenses expire, like with Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1&2 remasters. Those are stuck on my PS4 probably indefinitely.
@NEStalgia ah ty, I always get those two confused. But regardless, like you said, it’s worth a ton. I mean from just Activision and Blizzards base output that deal isn’t worth $68b….. wasn’t till I found out they owned King that I realized where the true cost of that deal lay…. King alone is worth the same or more than Activision and Blizzard, and from a standpoint outside of consoles, it’s worth far more to MS who doesn’t really have much presence in mobile and casual markets.
I think it’s funny all the news surrounding CoD in this whole ordeal and how people were scared MS was going to make it an exclusive. I’ve said from the beginning there’s not way that would make financial sense as it would end with them loosing a profit. No way in hell they can make up the annual 10+m sales CoD has on PlayStation alone….
But CoD isn’t even the big fish here. MS could care less what systems CoD is on as long as it’s making them money. No…. The big fish was Zynga and all it’s IP. That makes FAAAAAARR more money than anything Act/Blizz puts out. And without doing anything more, they’ll still make money off of that, but to bring that to multiple platforms or even just Xbox, could stand to make them untold fortunes more.
This whole thing is funny. Especially when you consider MS has more multiplatform titles than either Nintendo or Sony. And if you remove the pc and mobile aspect, then MS is basically the only one with their titles on rival systems. Smh. Funny times to be an old gamer.
Cosmetic Microtransactions and Cheats/Fast Progression in a single player game I’m totally fine with as long as they’re optional, AND more over, they don’t build the game around that. Do not for the love of God, extend gameplay making it a huge grind to level up gear just to sell the microtransactions.
That said, go for it otherwise. I get it, I’m a 40 year old dad who barely has time to game anymore, and while I personally love grinding for stuff like gear on Diablo 2, Shiny hunting in Pokémon, or maxing out characters in Octopath, I fully understand not having the time to do such things and wishing there were an option available to speed up the process.
Going forward in gaming, I’d be totally fine if all single player games had a $5 dlc you could buy that had a cheat menu that sped things like Xp grinding up. I’ve even bought a couple of such things for 3DS JRPGs. And I’ve used the FE maps that are specially designed for power leveling / gearing / money grinding - this right here would be my personal preferred cheat method. A pack that contains a way to grind but at 3-5x normal rate.
Edit - I should also clarify, due to the article (and not having the game myself yet) I’m unsure if this is for the main game or merc mode. If this is for the main game, then there’s no need to get panties in a bunch if someone wants to gear up faster to progress through the game. Or doesn’t want to play Pro mode just to get whatever unlock.
Now if this is merc mode related, which I’m sure has online components like leaderboards, then nope. Def not for anything that gives advantage to those willing to spend money.
And also I get the release was a bit shady instead of having the options from the start. Again, they shoulda just had a dlc map of the village or something that dropped treasure at a much higher rate allowing you to upgrade weapons faster, like FE does with map packs.
I bought this on Switch when it launched, and I thought I was decent at survival games. I was quickly proven wrong. Brutally hard game, but I really need to get back into it. Should be a guide by now that’ll help with lasting the first 24-48 hours…. (Yeah I didn’t even last a day past the plane crash, lmao)
I’m cautiously optimistic about this, but I don’t have high hopes after watching some streams. Was really hoping it would lean more heavily into D2 than D3, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. As someone above said, my take away after watching the stream was “seems like D3 but a lot better”.
Still looks like a fun time, but I doubt I’ll love it like I do D2. I liked D3, and it was fun, but D2 and Borderlands 2 are much better loot rpgs.
As a long time Diablo fan - I’ve been playing since D2 released on Pc years ago - That bar isn’t too high honestly. D2 is an amazing game; and I love the remaster. But D3, Immortal…. Def not a high bar to beat. Clone D2, add more classes, more items, make legends useful but retain a useful crafting / rune system.
The only thing that’s truly going to be hard to beat, besides amazing CGI scenes (seriously Blizz does amazing there), is setting. Angels, Demons, and Hell is a perfect setting for the genre. Vampire slaying would be awesome too, always wanted a Buffy game in the vein of D2…. They could continue with the Ori universe too, could work. Not sure it would be as drawing as a darker tone, but still could work.
Just remember guys, we don’t need overly inflated health / damage numbers…. Looking at D3 end game and Borderlands 2 OP levels…: smh.
My favorite TC game isn’t on Xbox or this list, it was Ruthless . Com on pc. Awesome strategy game!
I really want to try out splinter cell, wish they had an all in one collection for Series S/X…. I tried it out long ago, but Metal Gear had ruined me for the stealth action genre at the time so I couldn’t get into SC….
This sounds about right. I typically try something on Game Pass, then if I like it and want it portable I grab it on Switch. If I really like it, I grab it on both, like Blaphemous, Dead Cells, Deaths Door, Tunic, etc… Game Pass is truly great for these multiplatform Devs im sure!
But seriously an oddly great and soothing game. One of those “I didn’t know I needed it” games. Highly recommend if ya need some zen. Best part is there’s a career mode with progression for those like me that need a goal.
@HarmanSmith same here! I loved my 360, and was a bit disappointed with XB1 so switched to Ps4/Pro. Def a happy surprise with SX on all my old titles, including the XB1 games I never got around to, and moreover with the 360 stuff. All that alone was worth the Series X IMO, and it’s got a fast interface this time around to boot, sweet!
@HarmanSmith that was awesome wasn’t it? I booted my Series X and saw I had access to all my old 360 titles again and about crapped. I’ve spent far more time playing my 360/Arcade titles all over again than anything current gen, or even from XB1 lol.
I remote played unpacking the other night to test the connection…. Previously, when I first had my Series X The remote play was a bit unstable. Kept dropping out while trying to play Fallout 4. But the other day it ran smooth as butter. Wondering if an update happened that helped it out? Either way, remote play / switch is my preferred gaming method just because a lot of the games I want to play on my Series X aren’t exactly appropriate for 3-6yr olds…. Like Elden Rings, Witcher 3 and Fallout….
@Broosh Dark Souls is on my backlog, I started it up not to long ago but got pulled away by MH Rise, lol. If I wasn’t getting back into Skyrim for a third time currently I’d likely be diving into DS. My only fear with DS at this point is really enjoying it, and then having the series split across multiple devices, bahahaha. I’ve got DS Remastered on Switch in a sale.
And def get around to Witcher, you won’t be disappointed…. We’ll maybe you will, but in a different way. The game can seriously ruin other games for you…. It’s like when Ocarina of Time released and was a pinnacle of gaming for a time; nothing could compare. Lol! But that opening in White Orchard for Witcher 3 is lengthy and slow compared to the rest of the game. On the plus side, shortly after White Orchard you enter Velen and have access to one of the best story lines in the game @ Crows Perch and the story of Uma.
@Broosh that’s what I had heard. I never got into God Eater when I saw it while working a GameStop years ago, didn’t even know what it was like. When GE3 released on Switch, and my friend had told me it was basically like MH with Hunt/Build/Hunt progression, I snagged it. I dig the setting and such, but like with any MH or MH style game, the first hour or so of tutorials and mini creature hunting is just a slog. My “Gamer ADHD” won’t allow me to stop, chill and progress and instead says, “Yo, you got a billion games in your backlog, try another one…” 😂😂
Hell, I didn’t even get around to finishing Witcher 3 until last year, after owning it 3 different times - Ps, Xbox and Switch…. White Orchard 6+ tutorial is a slog and a half. Finally forced myself through that, and once the game opened up truly it was amazing….
So yeah, starts to games can be the difference on if I continue playing or immediately move on some times. I’ve been spoiled with amazing opening sequences like Mass Effect, or get straight to it with Breath of the Wild or Hades….Hand holding kills me.
For reference, born in 1982, grew up with NES/SNES/Genesis where tutorials and such were non existent lol. Yeah manuals existed, but I never really checked em till after the fact. Or just to look at the pretty art like Zelda and Mario manuals.
@Banjo- yeah I’ve been debating on getting it on Xbox now that I’ve got a Series X. It ran decent on PS4 Pro, BUT, the frame drops would kill my motion sickness, that was the secondary reason for dropping it after 45 mins. Third reason was coming off of 500-600 hours of MHG/MHGU. Lol
I’m all for more MH goodness, can’t wait for Sunbreak on Switch! That said, it’s a very hard niche to copy and do well…. The biggest one that’s similar is God Eater, and that has failed to capture me so far…. Granted I’ve only spent 30-60 mins with it, and need to give it more time.
As an MH vet since MH on PSP, even Monster Hunter World failed to draw me in…. It looked amazing, but felt to “hand holdy”… Supposedly it’s much better now after Iceborne, but I’m near positive it won’t top MHGU so I haven’t bothered.

Re: Todd Howard Says Starfield Is 'Great' On Xbox Series S
Re: Todd Howard Says Starfield Is 'Great' On Xbox Series S
Re: Todd Howard Says Starfield Is 'Great' On Xbox Series S
Re: Todd Howard Says Starfield Is 'Great' On Xbox Series S
Re: Todd Howard Says Starfield Is 'Great' On Xbox Series S
@Banjo- @mac_da_man Hahaah, you guys should see some of the Facebook game groups then. Wow is all I can say. My friend shares posts from some of them, and it’s just baffling…. It’s like a meeting where entitlement and cancel culture collide. Holy crap.
Re: Todd Howard Says Starfield Is 'Great' On Xbox Series S
Re: Todd Howard Says Starfield Is 'Great' On Xbox Series S
Re: Todd Howard Says Starfield Is 'Great' On Xbox Series S
Re: Todd Howard Says Starfield Is 'Great' On Xbox Series S
@Echtzeit Pssshht, we all know it’s the Switch that’s holding this back to 30fps.
Re: Todd Howard Says Starfield Is 'Great' On Xbox Series S
Re: Xbox Says Big Budget Games With 2-3 Years Development Cycles Are Over
@Banjo- Nice!
Oh and my Switch FC is SW-5558-6500-8995
Re: Xbox Says Big Budget Games With 2-3 Years Development Cycles Are Over
@Banjo- playing since Tri as well (I tried Freedom Unite on PSP, but couldn’t get into back then)
I have a Series X as well.
Re: Xbox Says Big Budget Games With 2-3 Years Development Cycles Are Over
@Banjo- D3 isn’t bad per se, but it’s just not as good as D2 or 4. 4 is what D3 shoulda been.
Re: Xbox Says Big Budget Games With 2-3 Years Development Cycles Are Over
@Banjo- Go for D4 if you want a more laid back approach to an rpg.
Re: Xbox Says Big Budget Games With 2-3 Years Development Cycles Are Over
@Banjo- Sure gamer tag is the same as my user on here. Mainly been playing Diablo 4 lately, but I’m down for some mess around matches on SF6 when ya get it.
Re: Xbox Says Big Budget Games With 2-3 Years Development Cycles Are Over
@Banjo- I Concur, SF2 was basically the pinnacle of SF I think.
Re: Xbox Says Big Budget Games With 2-3 Years Development Cycles Are Over
@NEStalgia Diablo 2 is a really good example of a game done so well, it’s worth continuing playing 20+ years later.
Re: Xbox Says Big Budget Games With 2-3 Years Development Cycles Are Over
@Banjo- SF6 is good.
Re: Xbox Says Big Budget Games With 2-3 Years Development Cycles Are Over
@Banjo- Same here.
I swear no genre, besides MAYBE point n click, has escaped bloating of systems over the years
Re: Xbox Says Big Budget Games With 2-3 Years Development Cycles Are Over
@Banjo- I Was specifically referring to the time frame.
Re: Xbox Says Big Budget Games With 2-3 Years Development Cycles Are Over
@NEStalgia Well said!
Re: Xbox Says Big Budget Games With 2-3 Years Development Cycles Are Over
Zelda, Metroid and Mario fans over here like, “New in town? Welcome to the club!”
Re: Roundup: Here's What Was Revealed At June 2023's Future Games Show
Gotta change my shorts after seeing the Witcher village on Unreal 5…..
Re: Xbox 360 Title 'Shadows Of The Damned' Is Getting A Remaster
Beat this back on 360, was a hell of a ride. Played just like RE4, but with the absurdity of Suda51. Was a really fun romp, but def only a 7/10. With enough polishing and smoothing out the rough edges it could be a solid 8-9 though, it has the potential. Give it more of an RE5 set up - aka more actions, stuns and melee attacks….

Re: Microsoft Reckons It 'Lost The Worst Generation To Lose' With Xbox One
@Green-Bandit Wizard and either Rogue or Druid for me, haven’t decided which yet. Druid was fun on the beta! Missed that class in D3.
Re: Microsoft Reckons It 'Lost The Worst Generation To Lose' With Xbox One
@Green-Bandit Same games man, same games! I’d be fine for years. I’d add Monster Hunter in there. Rise is good, but for value and so much stuff, Generations is the pinnacle. MH, Borderlands and Diablo are the only games that have that “oooh a piece of candy, ooohh another piece of candy!” Slot machine like effect. Every drop is a dopamine hit!
Re: Microsoft Reckons It 'Lost The Worst Generation To Lose' With Xbox One
@Green-Bandit Lol same here with D4. I’ve been playing the crap outta D2 on Xbox and Switch lately. Quite enjoyed the beta for D4. I liked it a lot more than D3, which wasn’t bad, just more actiony/casual I guess? D2 is gritty, and I had a similar feeling with D4. Like a perfect mix of D2 and D3.
Re: Microsoft Reckons It 'Lost The Worst Generation To Lose' With Xbox One
Re: Microsoft Reckons It 'Lost The Worst Generation To Lose' With Xbox One
Re: Microsoft Reckons It 'Lost The Worst Generation To Lose' With Xbox One
Re: Xbox Signs Yet Another 10-Year ActiBlizz Deal, This Time With UK Mobile Network
Re: Xbox Signs Yet Another 10-Year ActiBlizz Deal, This Time With UK Mobile Network
And if you remove the pc and mobile aspect, then MS is basically the only
one with their titles on rival systems. Smh. Funny times to be an old gamer.
Re: Capcom Has Added Microtransactions To Resident Evil 4 After Release
Re: The Long Dark Gets 60FPS Xbox Update Prior To Game Pass Departure
I bought this on Switch when it launched, and I thought I was decent at survival games. I was quickly proven wrong. Brutally hard game, but I really need to get back into it. Should be a guide by now that’ll help with lasting the first 24-48 hours…. (Yeah I didn’t even last a day past the plane crash, lmao)
Re: Hands On: Our Early Impressions Of The Diablo 4 Beta On Xbox
I’m cautiously optimistic about this, but I don’t have high hopes after watching some streams. Was really hoping it would lean more heavily into D2 than D3, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. As someone above said, my take away after watching the stream was “seems like D3 but a lot better”.
Still looks like a fun time, but I doubt I’ll love it like I do D2. I liked D3, and it was fun, but D2 and Borderlands 2 are much better loot rpgs.
Re: Ori Developer's Next Game Will Attempt To 'Revolutionise' The ARPG Genre
Re: Pick One: Which Is Your Favourite Tom Clancy Game On Xbox?
My favorite TC game isn’t on Xbox or this list, it was Ruthless . Com on pc. Awesome strategy game!
I really want to try out splinter cell, wish they had an all in one collection for Series S/X…. I tried it out long ago, but Metal Gear had ruined me for the stealth action genre at the time so I couldn’t get into SC….
Re: Phil Spencer Can't Get Enough Of 'Satanic Animal Crossing' On Xbox
I concur with both his statements, it deserves to be in contention for GOTY, def Indie GOTY, and it’s truly Satanic Animal Crossing and it’s glorious!
Got this on Switch when it released and downloaded on Xbox as well. I love Devolver Digital titles
Re: 'Let's Build A Zoo' Is Selling Great On Nintendo Switch, Partly Thanks To Xbox Game Pass
Re: Xbox Fans Seem To Be Loving PowerWash Simulator On Game Pass
It’s a blast! Pun intended!
But seriously an oddly great and soothing game. One of those “I didn’t know I needed it” games. Highly recommend if ya need some zen. Best part is there’s a career mode with progression for those like me that need a goal.
Re: Talking Point: What Were Your Favourite Xbox Live Arcade Games On 360?
@HarmanSmith same here! I loved my 360, and was a bit disappointed with XB1 so switched to Ps4/Pro. Def a happy surprise with SX on all my old titles, including the XB1 games I never got around to, and moreover with the 360 stuff. All that alone was worth the Series X IMO, and it’s got a fast interface this time around to boot, sweet!
Still miss the Blade dashboard thou, so svelte
Re: Talking Point: What Were Your Favourite Xbox Live Arcade Games On 360?
@HarmanSmith that was awesome wasn’t it? I booted my Series X and saw I had access to all my old 360 titles again and about crapped. I’ve spent far more time playing my 360/Arcade titles all over again than anything current gen, or even from XB1 lol.
Re: Talking Point: What Were Your Favourite Xbox Live Arcade Games On 360?
Castle Crashers, and Outpost Koloki X for sure. Never got around to The Maw but I own it.
Not sure if these were arcade or not, but Castlevania SOTN, Crystal Defenders (loved this, but it was not easy in later levels), Monkey Island 1&2….
I also spent a huge amount of time on Hardwood Spades.
Re: Soapbox: Remote Play Is One Of Xbox's Most Underrated Features
I remote played unpacking the other night to test the connection…. Previously, when I first had my Series X The remote play was a bit unstable. Kept dropping out while trying to play Fallout 4. But the other day it ran smooth as butter. Wondering if an update happened that helped it out?
Either way, remote play / switch is my preferred gaming method just because a lot of the games I want to play on my Series X aren’t exactly appropriate for 3-6yr olds…. Like Elden Rings, Witcher 3 and Fallout….
Re: Rogue Legacy 2 Arrives As An Xbox Console Exclusive This Month
Awesome news! Playing RL1 on Switch and loving it!
Hilarious though as it looks like RL2 jumped 3 generations - RL1 @ 8 bit, then RL2 jumps to PS2/GC/XB era, lol! Both games beautiful thou!
Re: Xbox Is Reportedly Working On A 'Monster Hunter' Style Exclusive
Re: Xbox Is Reportedly Working On A 'Monster Hunter' Style Exclusive
Re: Xbox Is Reportedly Working On A 'Monster Hunter' Style Exclusive
@Banjo- yeah I’ve been debating on getting it on Xbox now that I’ve got a Series X. It ran decent on PS4 Pro, BUT, the frame drops would kill my motion sickness, that was the secondary reason for dropping it after 45 mins. Third reason was coming off of 500-600 hours of MHG/MHGU. Lol
Re: Xbox Is Reportedly Working On A 'Monster Hunter' Style Exclusive
