It's hard to believe, but The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has hit its sixth birthday today. That's right, the 2015 game is now six years old and still holds a huge cultural impact in the gaming world. This year is set to see a next-gen version of the game surface, but what else is in store for the series in the future?
No matter where the franchise goes, we'll still have this significant gaming milestone to look back on. It changed the way we saw RPGs going forward. Fully fleshed side content, choices that truly mattered, and a gorgeous open-world world packed with lore and monsters that demanded to be discovered. While other games have managed to successfully replicate some of those elements, it can be argued that this was one of the first to perfectly marry it altogether into one cohesive package.
But here we are, six years later. Times and people change, and the release of Cyberpunk 2077 has put a sour taste in the fans of CD Projekt Red - but has that changed your perception? Or do you still love/hate the game as much as you did back in 2015? Maybe you think another game has managed to do what The Witcher 3 tried to - but better.
Why don't we sit back, have a chat, and discuss one of the most critically acclaimed games of all time? We don't know about you, but a few games of Gwent and some monster slaying may be on the cards for tonight!
What do you think of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt all these years later? Drop us a comment and let us know.

The show is great. The game was amazing,
@OliverOwen show was fantastic and i haven't played a witcher game yet. I own 2 but never installed it yet.
My favourite game of all time.
Just bought it - on my first Xbox (Series S) for £6.99! for the complete edition or whatever it's called. Not bad for 100s of hours of game. I'm look forward to the Vampire expansion in particular. I'll play it as soon as my current Game Pass subscription expires.
Late comer to the Series. Only really started playing due to Gamepass. Made some good progress, loved it. It then left gamepass so bought the goty edition and have now had to restart. Absolutely hate that.
I picked this up, waaaaay back upon release. Played til level 12. Then the switcher released with all the dlc. Picked it up, level 22. Now im intrigued on how beautiful this game will be, upon nextgen, currentgen?, xbsx/ps5 upgrade
Completed it and did all the contracts etc..loved it on release ..just bought the complete edition and will play it once the series X upgrade is released
@ResoluteCustoms why a restart? The cloud saves should carry over no? I had an issue on Gears UE not carrying my progress over from PC to console but it's cuz they are treated as separate games and you can double up on achievements i guess. Wasn't happy to find that out after the fact.
One of my favorite games of all time. All of the side quests felt fun and weren’t just filler. Great writing, characters and gameplay!
The gameplay itself aged pretty poorly imo. The story and quests are still a masterclass
Played it for the first time earlier this year and it is easily in my top 5 games of all time. 130 hours of pure RPG bliss.
I loved the game and both expansions. Keep meaning to do a second play through but never got around to it, definitely will though when the next-gen upgrade arrives.
Despite gaming since the 80's, I could never commit to RPG's other than Mass Effect and KOTOR. A friend persuaded me to try Witcher 3 inc DLC. 150 hours later and despite some imperfections and now slightly dated aspects, it's hands down my favourite gaming experience of all time. An astoundingly immersive world with wonderful music and well above average writing and characters. It's a masterpiece for me.
Witcher 3 is amazing, and one of the best games ever created. I’ve bought it 3 times so far, PS4 first then Xbox One, and Switch. I only ever fully completed the Switch edition, which was amazing especially for a handheld. I’m eagerly awaiting the next gen upgrade on Series X for a second run through.
Honestly, if it weren’t for Zelda having a special place in my heart since Link to the Past, Witcher 3 would probably be my fave game of all time.
I played it for about an hour last year and didn't really get into it 🤷♂️ Glitches didn't help either
@everynowandben If the game seemed/seems interesting to you, I’d highly suggest trying it again and giving it more time. I had a similar issue when it launched on PS4. The main problem is White Orchard is more or less a 5+ hour tutorial. It’s by far the weakest section of the game, and very slow. The biggest highlight for me in there is the Wraith in the Well quest, as that’s first and really only time during White Orchard that you feel like a Witcher. Trust when I say the game REALLY opens up after White Orchard and you really start to feel like you’re on an adventure. There are so many amazing moments after the beginning area.
Tried it shortly after release but never got too far into it. Just didn't click with me at all. Hopefully CDPR can right the ship and deliver a banger for the Witcher 4!
10/10 in story-telling and world-building
6/10 combat - really wasn’t a fan
0/10 in horse AI - Roach is an idiot! The horses in Breath of the Wild put Roach to shame!
@Dm9982 I'll consider that at some point in the future, thanks 🙂
@everynowandben Np! It’s a common issue with the game. It got super hyped up as one of, if not the best, action rpg made.... then has the slowest/longest opening ever. A lot of people, myself included, questioned the sanity of others after playing for a couple hours.... but once you get towards the end of White Orchard, face a wraith and battle the Griffin, it truly starts opening up. All the best stories are in Acts2+ when you’ve progressed to Velen and beyond.
So it’s one of those things, like Monster Hunter, push past the opening salvo of droll, and trust that the rest is well worth the effort.
There aren’t many games I personally place alongside Link to the Past / Ocarina of Time, but Witcher 3 is one of em.
@Krzzystuff I played 2 long after playing 3 to test the backwards compatibility of my series x and it still holds up. The combat is janky but the story is great, enjoy!
I’m 50 hours in on my first run. Does not feel like a 6 year old game. Plays and looks amazing. Cant wait for the next gen update.
