I get the whole every screen is an Xbox & I think that's great π. But I need reassurance that my Xbox won't be left behind when the expansion begins. 1) I need Microsoft to confirm its Games Pass plans on Xbox hardware 2) 3rd party support plans. Will they continue to push for better support in all regions. Will they expand also to new upcoming regions.
@Savage_Joe well Microsoft screwed up there vision for ARM. Not surprising. As they were designing a modern OS that stripped the legacy software called Windows 10X & it was meant to be used for there flagship Surface device the Surface Neo but got scrapped & instead focused on Android on the Surface Duo & Windows 11.
@Banjo- I agree. I've had several Surface products & also said when these rumours started that Microsoft could make a range of products like the Surface brand so make sense. My only issue with the Surface team is they mostly deal soley with Intel. So would make sense why AMD hasn't heard from Microsoft.
@Phantasystar77I'm not denying that Destiny was made to be everywhere but Sony could have pulled an Apple & made parts exclusive etc. As for MLB. Sony could have dropped the franchise if they didn't want there developer working on an Xbox version. But they didn't as it doesn't make business sense. Heck I bet Sony looked at how much Bungie & MLB were making as one key argument to base there current strategy of expanding to PC, Cloud & Mobile.
Is Microsoft in trouble. Yes. Even if the rumour is untrue the damage has been done. If it is true? It depends on how quickly it's implimented & what the plan is. As if you spook both players & devs all the hard work over the years that Spencer's done rebuilding the Xbox brand after the Xbox One launch as well as fixing rifts & securing new partnerships with Japanese publishers will be for nothing.
But if you look at Xbox's top played games there all multiplats. EA Soccer, Fortnite, Roblox & COD & Minecraft which are Xbox owned & all on PS5 so if marketed well Xbox console still could be a viable product to the consumer.
I think it's more the CEO Sataya Nadella & the shareholders pushing this than Phil Spencer. I think what happening is the future as consoles will slowly die out. But I think there pushing it to quickly which is a very Microsoft thing to do. But we will know better next week.
@InterceptorAlpha OK I'm wrong that it's only fanboys. But the sales numbers speak for themselves. Look at the Insomniac leak. PS2 Sony titles averaging 4 million copies sold but over 100 million consoles sold. Playstation had 123 million active users in December 2023 but there most popular title Horizon: Zero Dawn sold 28 million copies & that includes PC also. Nintendo seems to buck the trend as they just announced that Switch has sold 138 million units with the latest Mario game just selling 11 million units. But Mario Kart 8 has over 60 million units. So it looks like outside of a Nintendo console if exclusives were as important as we are lead to believe there numbers of units sold would be higher? But there not on Xbox & PlayStation.
Look at the current top played games on Xbox there all multiplats. Minecraft & COD being two of them. Both are owned by Microsoft & are on PS5. As long as Xbox provides a choice to the consumer & top games still hit the platform it's still viable choice to the average gamer.
Looking at the data lately the whole "people buy there specific console for exclusives is false". Fanboys buy consoles for there exclusives but they make such a small part of each eco systems numbers.
The Insomniac leak hinted that Spiderman 3 will launch on PC day & date. Some insiders have reported that Wolverine could be on PC day & date next year. Untill Dawn remake will be on PC day & date later this year.
@Phantasystar77 Sony CEO also hinted there gonna follow Microsoft down the third party route. There first party games have started to come on PC day & date with Helldivers 2. Cloud & Mobile are also next. Xbox also gets continued Destiny 2 support, MLB 2024 later this year & Marathon possibly next year.
@Phantasystar77 if Sea of Thieves goes third party then it's no different than Minecraft & COD to be fair. We haven't had much evidence other than insiders saying its coming though. As for Hi Fi Rush. It's like Ori & other smaller 2nd party titles that have been allowed to release outside of Xbox. It's nothing new as look at No Man Sky. It was published by Sony.
Microsofts strategy seems to be working with 200 million active users compared to PlayStation's last update in December 2023 of 123 million active users. The Xbox console is but a drop in that pool. I don't see Xbox hardware going away anytime soon & with Sony CEO hinting that they'll be following a similar strategy in the future. Exciting times.
@Mephisto2869 heard the news that Microsoft helped create Shapeshifter Games. Inxile arranged a meeting after Embracer shut down Volition & are now helping with Clockwork Revolution. Arkane Lyon are also looking at also helping ABK & other staff recently payed off as they have seven job vacancies.
One YouTuber is now claiming that Microsoft helped fund the Studio creation after a meeting was set up by Inxile entertainment & there working on Clockwork Revolution. I said this could happen but got its illegal in the UK π π π
@Mephisto2869 I noticed your comment got deleted. But I Still don't understand how it's illegal in the UK for a group of people who get made redundant. Can't come up with a business plan, get funding & create a new studio π€.
@Mephisto2869 new studios open in the UK all the time. πππ when Microsoft closed Lionheads Studios & Bizarre Creations many of the staff got other jobs but at the same time many new studios were created including 22cans, Media Molecule, Two Point Studios, PixelCount Studios & Lucid Games. Again you are using this to bash Microsoft when it's an industry problem. I live in Scotland & work for Argos in a stand alone store lol. Look up what Sainsbury's has been doing since they acquired the business.
Games are getting more expensive to make with each generation. The bulk of Sony's titles sold 4-5 million. Above average being 10-15 million & top teir being GOW 2018, boring & Horizon: Zero Dawn my favourite Sony title at 20-25 million.
Where did you get those percentages for Prince of Persia as I looked & couldn't find any. Plus if there not officially from Ubisoft then it means nothing. As if there retails sales it accounts for 10-20% of all sales. Also Microsoft & Nintendo don't disclose there store sales either.
Most games that skip Xbox tend to be Asian. Xbox has little marketshare in those markets.
@Mephisto2869 take it you forgot about the lay off's & studio closures at Sony. Then you have Embracer group. Lay off's are terrible but hopefully some good will come from it & they get new jobs at other studios or we may see the creation of new ones.
@Sol4ris the only benefit I can see would be that we may see new studios be formed by the large amounts of lay off's. I could see Microsoft & Sony even lending a hand also.
@MrMagic aye prices across the board went up. I'm sure there was a report from a marketing company that said that Games Pass is roughly 33 million & that's without the now Games Pass Core numbers. As for Xbox gamers buying less games. It can be debated after the Insomniac leak if that is now a myth considering its not Xbox but PlayStation that's struggling with users not buying games.
@MrMagic no significant growth π π π . Xbox's last quarter earnings report. Xbox content and services revenue, which includes Xbox Game Pass, is up by 13%. Gaming revenue is also up 9%
@Mephisto2869 people responding to an article ain't begging. People petitioning is begging πππ remember when PS fanboys did that to get Starfield a PlayStation exclusive.
@rizangle not denying in time that high speed will be available everywhere relatively cheap but until then I can't see Microsoft getting rid of hardware.
@GamingFan4Lyf I know you didn't mention cloud. But sounds like you didn't get my point either. Its one reason why Microsoft won't ditch Xbox hardware. As for people like me its the only option to get what I already pay for. I'm sure I'm not alone.
@GamingFan4Lyf I agree Games Pass is key but until ultra fast broadband becomes readily available as I can't play on cloud as my Internet is awful so Xbox hardware is my place to be for many years to come.
It also makes no sense for Microsoft to give up Xbox hardware from a business perspective as they'd loose the income from the Xbox store. The idea of going third party on PC, PlayStation & Nintendo is to add to what there already making. If laws change & Xbox could open a games store & have Game Pass on PlayStation & Nintendo then I could see no need for hardware. But until then I can't see it going anywhere soon.
@OldGamer999 I can see Xbox still producing hardware. I'd look at Microsoft's Surface line as a possible future. A select few pieces of hardware which showcases the best of Xbox.
@LX_FENIX no it doesn't. This could be many things to be fair. With the FTC still fighting Microsoft over the deal it's understandable that the CEO would focus on being on Sony & Nintendo.
@Mephisto2869 I guess it depends on what Microsoft brings to the table? As they already stated they want to push hard in Japan. So why not start by throwing money at Square Enix to port both FF7 remakes once exclusivity expires in May.
With all this talk of Microsoft leaving Xbox hardware behind to become third party. There is nothing stopping Microsoft partnering with manufacturers & licensing the Xbox OS to a handful of unique devices. Or Microsoft could create Surface like devices for us xbox fans.
Microsoft has its services on Mobile, Mac & Chromebooks but it hasn't killed Windows or Microsofts Surface PCs. So can't see Xbox hardware being killed off if Microsoft does the same with Xbox services.
It's the future. Minecraft hitting 300 million sales has opened many eyes. Even Sony is looking to add some of there titles on PC day & date π. So with rising costs continuing it will be it's only a matter of time before Sony follows Microsofts lead. Probably not this gen though but maybe next.
@J_Mo_Money we should get an announcement of a release date & footage of the Xbox version this weekend at the FF14 Tokyo event. Open beta mid January-February. So I'd expect a late March early April release. Can't wait.
@Markatron84 I agree π with word Sony saved them from financial ruin. But you have to add Bungie to the others studios struggling making Gaas games π. Even the Sony fan boys have gone silent after gloating that Xbox can't manage there studios for the last few years.
@DonaldMcRonald unfortunately I can see them going for more as that list helps Microsoft in key areas like the US/EU but does nothing to move the needle in Asia so I expect that's the next push.
