@DennisReynolds so I guess PlayStation isn't failing!!!! 9 cancelled live service games, 3rd party exclusives bombing. 1st party not selling great on there own platform. If Sony wasn't panicking then. They will be now as how do they compete against a competitor that plans to dominate all platforms including their own.

@OldGamer999 both Microsoft & Sony have repeatedly said that both strategies of Game Pass day 1 & single player AAA are expensive. But people hate change. We are the minority also. So as long as Fortnite, Minecraft, Roblox, COD & GTA are on Xbox/PlayStation. Then to the average gamer both platforms have a future regardless of what happens to 1st party software.

This is the same James Corden that denied the name of the next gen Xbox is Xbox Prime. But On the Xbox Two Podcast he was asked if he knew what the name was. He said he didn't 🤣🤣🤣. So how can he deny what he doesn't know.

@NattyKing not dumb. Kadokawa didn't want Sony to cherry pick. So even being the largest shareholder won't stop that from happening.

@UserTK-421 it was mentioned at CES that Xbox wants to make PC gaming as painless as console gaming. How they will do that? Will be interesting. Hopefully we get plenty of info through the year to ease any concerns.

@BacklogBrad listening to what was said at CES. It looks very much that they want to improve Windows 11 for gaming across the board. How Xbox fits into this I guess we may find out later this year or early next year.

@GamingFan4Lyf your correct. The Xbox OS runs a version of the Windows 11 subsystem but uses hyper v hypervisor.
Until we get more info on what Microsoft plans are. They could very well make a dedicated OS for gaming & license it like Steam is. But sounds like we will get news later this year.

@eduscxbox I don't think so. Xbox OS is already Windows. It's part of the Universal Windows Platform which started with Windows 10 for Windows PC, mobile & Xbox One. They'll probably integrate it with Windows 11 & it will be it's game mode.

@BacklogBrad I wonder if they'll fully integrate the Xbox OS with Windows 11 to be it's future gaming mode.

@Balaam_ no. If the next Xbox is a hybrid PC. Then it will run the steam app like you can on Windows I guess. As the Xbox OS is part of the Universal Windows Platform. So porting what's needed for the Xbox OS & incorporating it with Windows 11 gaming mode will be easier.

@PapaGlitch it's not for me either as I prefer the Xbox controller over the PS5s. But I have to admit that the PS5 is an improvement over the PS4's as It used to hurt my hands after a while playing. So I used a 3rd party back then. So could be a similar situation for a PlayStation user using the Xbox's.

Some Playstation owners have an Xbox as a second console. This is perfect for them.

@Cakefish to be fair. Sony has destroyed their first party output with their live service push. Hence all the remake/remasters. So that could be only a handful of titles a year Xbox misses out on.
So if it's just 2nd/3rd party exclusives that go multiplatform after deals expire. That could be the bulk of Sony's output till they recover.

@TheEstablishment I like Xbox's current strategy as I own all platforms. My main worry was 3rd party developers skipping the eco system. But looking recently. The bulk seem to be on board. So I'll continue to purchase Xbox hardware.

@DarthCvrle66 no. But it sounds like Sony is either finding it more difficult to secure 2nd/3rd party exclusives. Or this is Sony trying to counter the possibility of Xbox becoming a far more bigger publisher. If Xbox's 3rd party push includes ID Xbox & Worldwide Publishing? Then Xbox has the upper hand when it comes to 2nd/3rd party developers deals due to having little to no restrictions.

When Death Stranding was shadow dropped. I did wonder if others would come like the three PS4 titles developed from Quantic Dream. Detroit: Become Human, Beyond: Two Souls & Heavy Rain.
This could help Square Enix get Final Fantasy 7 remake on Switch & Xbox.
If this is true I guess we would be looking at popular titles like Helldiver's 2, Until Dawn, Demon Souls, Bloodbourne & Nioh first. Then Stellar Blade, Rise of Ronin & Silent Hill Remake.

@TheEstablishment well reading some of the comments from not just Xbox fans but PlayStation. It's all about the plastic box.

@Major_Player even if Sony doesn't see Xbox hardware as a threat. I still think they see Xbox even in its current transformation as a threat. As every area Sony wants to branch to. PC, Cloud & Mobile. Xbox is currently leading in.

@abe_hikura probably not. But if Microsoft is willing to do a similar strategy of 3rd party publishing with ID Xbox & it's worldwide publishing arm as it is with its 1st party developers. Then Xbox looks a far more attractive publisher than both Sony & Nintendo.

@somnambulance I guess it depends on what Lego demands from the deal. If it's similar to Marvels cut in revenue? I could see Sony bringing it to Xbox for a quick sales boost.

@GeorgeKal I recon it was planned. But with the way Sony & Microsoft's strategies are changing. Anything is possible.

@somnambulance I was gonna say the same thing. Xbox getting it last is either a desperate attempt to get more sales. Or it was always planned to be ported at a later date.

@themightyant I think we are in a minority though. As I asked the kids & they couldn't care less if Xbox games go to PlayStation & Switch. As long as they get to play on their Series S's.

I thought I'd think that as well & jump fully to PlayStation next gen. But Sony hasn't been great this generation with constant remakes & PC ports taking priority over new titles. So can't see anything change except maybe build a descent PC to compliment the Asus Rog Ally. Kids play on Xbox also. So they'd want the newest one when it comes also. Like I said before. I enjoy being able to play certain games on my Xbox Series X or Asus Rog Ally via Games Pass in my living room. Then later once I've been kicked out. Up the stairs on my PS5 after paying full price.

@themightyant but will it damage the PlayStation brand. The media plus PS Fanboys moan but at the end of the day still obey. Like MLB & PC ports. If Sony says its someone else's fault or its to grow the business it's genius. If it was Xbox saying that it's GAME OVER!!!. Look at the recent response to Sony's expanding it's cloud strategy. Little to nothing was said. Even the defending of constant remakes.

If Sony announced the original Spiderman & Miles Morales was heading to Xbox & Switch. Then later said that all parties wanted more revenue from older titles. I could see the media & fanboys blow it off due to they had to wait so many years to play it like they said about Death Stranding.

But I agree. I don't see the problem of PlayStation & Xbox games being everywhere. As the more players that buy & play the better chance we will see more games from our favorite franchises.

@themightyant I agree with everything you've said. But only time will tell what direction Sony will go. If they want easy money then the Marvel license would be it. As it's an easy sell to customers & fanboys.

@themightyant the Insomniac leaks stated that the deal with Marvel demands that each title must sell 6 million units each. But the reason Sony might go fully multiplatform is the % Marvel takes. Disney will receive 9-18% of digital sales, 19-26% of physical sales, 19-26% of DLC sales, and 35-50% of bundle sales.
Also Disney could be putting pressure on PlayStation to go multiplatform due to Xbox doing the same to Indiana Jones & The Great Circle.

@themightyant Its a funny world we live in. I still believe Death Stranding releasing is key. Yes Sony sold it back to Kojima. But nothing SOE related has been removed. It runs on the Decima engine. Which Sony owns. So probably needed permission first. So the ground work has already been completed.
But like you said. Do I expect it to happen anytime soon? NO. If it does though? Id expect it to be live service titles like Helldiver's 2 & licensed titles like MLB the Show or Marvels Spiderman & Wolverine.

@Foxx_64740 I still feel Death Stranding was possibly a test. As selling the franchise back to Kojima & allowing them to release the game with all the SOE references included allows a seed to be planted. Plus with Kojima being a close partner. I bet he'd share how well it's sold also.

@themightyant I think it depends on Xbox's current strategy. If the eco system explodes in popularity due to the all devices being an Xbox. Then I could see Sony taking advantage with titles like Helldivers 2 & online spin offs of popular franchises. As Death Stranding proves that at a descent price even older Sony exclusives will sell. Sony could also wait till Microsoft has all their titles on Playstation & announce that Xbox is no longer a threat but part of the family. But more likely they'll allow Xbox users to use their cloud service.

@K1LLEGAL I don't see Sony money hating being so much as a problem now. As it slowly going away to some extent. I think once Microsoft implement there third party strategy fully. If it includes ID@Xbox, Xbox worldwide publishing & other partnerships? Then I could see the momentum swing to Xbox. It gives even Xbox hardware more 2nd party titles etc. I think recent surge in companies like Square Enix, Keoi Tecmo, HoYoverse & Kojima Productions commiting is due to the fact they have been sold on the strategy of all device being Xbox.

@K1LLEGAL exactly. I think Arrowheads recent outburst about putting pressure on Sony to port Helldivers 2 to Xbox is a case of why are we not allowed to but Bungie is. Like Bethesda grumbling when Microsoft said ABK titles will still be multiplatform. Support Marathon, Destiny 2 & even MLB & if their is money to be made on Xbox. Who knows!!!

@IOI id suspect they'd have to deal with the FTC if they stopped bringing at least future Destiny & Marathon titles to Xbox. As they did investigate the acquisition. I also suspect that part of the independent deal was to appease the regulators. I don't think Sony expected them to be so aggressive since the ABK deal. Or they'd brought Marathon into house like they have a few teams.

@Balaam_ Funny how Nadella drops the whole multiplatform statement when the biggest multiplatform title Call of Duty releases. The earlier rumour of slowing down & learning from Indiana Jones could be true. As Nadella hinted at cloud gaming & how from next month you can play what you buy from the Xbox store.

That statement could be to celebrate a successful launch of COD Black OPs 6. Doesn't mean that earlier rumour that Xbox has learned from Indiana Jones announcement isn't true.

@Titntin I'm sure the memory leak got dismissed as Microsofts second response said from what they have been led to believe it isn't hardware related & mentioned it couldn't comment on exclusive deals made by it's partners. So unelse it gets dragged through the courts. We probably never get the full story.

@Titntin still doesn't explain why all Xbox branding was absent from marketing before launch when they could have added a disclaimer saying it's coming at a later date. Plus PlayStation China heavily marketed it at launch. China is also a newer market for foreign console manufacturers as the ban was lifted in 2015. Sony has heavily invested in the region & see's Microsoft's purchase of ABK as a threat to that investment as Blizzard games are extremely popular on China. So investing in Wu Kong is a no brainer for Sony.

@BacklogBrad the EU mentioned Sony & gaming when they announced the Digital Markets Act. But decided not to act. I wonder if the EU is watching the UK case of gamers that are taking Sony to court for ripping them off.

@Banjo- if found guilty they could be fined 10% of there global income 👍. The EU said they weren't impressed back in June with there progress. Plus Microsoft & Epic have also been vocal. So can't see them getting away with it.

@NattyKing why. With Microsoft expanding Xbox onto pretty much any device that allows you to buy games, stream them via Games Pass or XCloud via WiFi? Why would Sony not want to make a bit of money of that.

@Banjo- I heard that. Epic & Microsoft complained that Apple isn't playing ball to the EU. So another investigation has been opened. According to the BBC.

The European Commission has opened another investigation into Apple regarding new contractual terms for developers.

This focuses on three main areas:

A fee of €0.50 (£0.42) which Apple charges developers for every app downloaded outside of Apple's App Store

The number of steps which Apple puts in place for users who want to download apps from alternative stores

Whether Apple's eligibility criteria for alternative app store developers breaches the Digital Market Act.

@BacklogBrad in the EU. Apple, Amazon, Google & Microsoft are classed as Gatekeepers. So have been forced to open up in accordance of the Digital Market Act. It's why Xbox looks to be opening up next gen. Sony PlayStation revenue falls in line with it's scrutiny if it goes all digital in the future. Nintendo doesn't make enough revenue. So goes under the radar in the EU.

@BIG3 Europe have already sorted the payment issue with the Digital Market Act. Which Google is named gatekeeper. As that's how Microsoft, Epic are planning to opening app stores on both IOS & Android.

@Ken_Kaniff to many like myself. More players playing isn't a problem. But looking at how Sony acts now with Xbox struggling. Could you imagine what they will do when Microsofts multiplatform strategy kills the Xbox console for good. As I see the next one as the last one to be fair.
