Yep, hoping for some good GamePass announcements!

I’m fine with this because it sounds like a small group experimenting with technology and not a change in direction for Xbox. If something good comes out of it, great. If not, the company didn’t bet a billion dollars on it.

@Balaam_ I’d love that as well. The problem is that every game publisher would also have to agree. Not sure they’d cooperate. It might be a pie in the sky objective. I’m not a big advocate of government intervention but in this case in may take a regulation to make digital purchases permanent.

I use OpenCritic since it considers all platforms and it’s currently an 80. That’s pretty good for an indie developer making a much more ambitious game than they’ve made in the past.

Very curious to see how Valor Mortis turned out. Definitely will be checking that out, along with Deep Dish Dungeon and Chained Beasts.

Edit: Valor Mortis reviews are out and it’s sounding good! 81 on OpenCritic so far.

Disc to digital is a game changer to me and makes me feel better about the future. I like knowing that even if the next console didn’t have a disc drive, I’d still be able to play a lot of the games I bought on disc. Best new feature since backwards compatibility IMHO.

Hoping the expansion is based around urban street racing. I love FH 6 but they missed the boat with street racing, which is something I really had expected in a Japan-based entry.

Both Neon Abyss 2 and timeloop metroidvania Echo Abyss are out today and getting great reviews. Echo Abyss in particular is getting crazy high praise (9.5 from Noise Pixel, Polygon says it’s “a must play” ).

Sounds like Xbox chose a few more day one winners. Just need more time to play them all!

Looking forward to Valor Mortis and Neon Abyss 2 for sure. Few others in that look promising as well. Of course, just started E-Day last night so that’ll be taking up my time. Good stuff!!!

Sounds like The Verge was wrong. Xbox CSO Matthew Ball tweeted that there is no exclusivity deal for streaming.

Honestly, I’m having a blast with Gears E-Day right now and GTA VI is the furthest thing from my mind.

I’m fine with that BUT they need to drop the restriction of games having to have equal features on both systems. Think that really held back the Series X this gen. Maybe not to the extent that some say, but you need to expect that a lower end system is going to need to make compromises. And if that means the superior console has split screen, for instance, and the less expensive system doesn’t, so be it. Don’t hold back those who spent more money for a premium gaming experience.

I mean they need to have two expansions right? People like myself paid for those but haven’t heard a peep about what even the first one will be. I honestly do hope it’s based around street racing!

Speaking of GamePass though, wasn’t today supposed to be when the next group of games were announced?

@RTGX I buy PLENTY of games (recent ones include Control Resonant, Galactic Racer and Ace Combat 8). But, yes, I subscribe to GamePass too. I have the subscription for a reason so there’s nothing wrong with me hoping this is on GamePass but if it isn’t, I’ll probably be buying when I get through some of the games I just mentioned.

No need to act snarky at someone for mentioning GamePass. GamePass does not equal not buying games. That’s you reading into it….wrongly.

Noticed that they still aren’t taking preorders for this game. So hoping that may mean it’s going to launch on GamePass. Probably wishful thinking but fingers crossed. Sounds good!

This is one game that if it had early access with a deluxe edition I would have been all over it. Cannot wait to get my hands on it Tuesday!!!

Don’t really see how ANY game’s multiplayer can be reviewed until there is a full population of people playing it. It would be a false representation of what MP is really like. So not really sure I understand the problem. Games that are MP only often don’t post scores at all on release dates. They’re usually a “review in progress”.

I guess they could have done that here and have everyone wait to review a game that has MP until they can give it a real test. But I think a lot of people want to know how the campaign is. Reviews for Ace Combat 8 were in the same situation.

So probably the best thing is to have two separate scores TBH.

FWIW I own a PS5 and would LOVE it if PlayStation had the same feature. Unfortunately I don’t think they can as there isn’t a unique identifier on their discs.

@GamingGod You can still pop in a disc and play on Xbox. You don’t have to download the digital version and you can play an Xbox anywhere in the world with your phone.

But you know, a side benefit for people that want digital versions is so horrible.

And you will see the point if PlayStation 6 is digital only and want to upgrade. Those discs will really come in handy then. I guess they make good coasters.

@GamingGod So when your PS4 or PS5 dies and you lose the ability to play all those discs, you may wish they were able to convert those to digital like Xbox. Not sure why you’re acting like this is a bad thing.

@Millionski The main two still missing are Square-Enix and Bandai Namco. There may be some other smaller ones but I think all of the other major publishers are participating. Hopefully those other two join as well!

It’s actually an 85 on OpenCritic, which is what I usually use. Of course, that may drop.

I like exploring the world of Dune but I’ve never been a fan of games requiring a lot of crafting. Wish there was an option to just get fully functional loot with no crafting involved! 😀

This is a fantastic game and sad that people judge games just on price. It’s got 92% on Metacritic and 95% on Steam with over 11,000 reviews. This is a great add to GamePass for strategy fans and more then “decent”. Not every good game is $50.

@FraserG I thought I saw another tweet from Tom Warren where he said there was concern internally at Xbox. Maybe it was someone else.

@Nexozi Because the story says that internally at Xbox there was concern about GTA VI sales on the console where they are actually happy with the sales. It set records for Xbox. You can sell more copies on PS5 (because they have a higher market share) and still break records on Xbox based on the number of consoles they have.

The writer of THIS story even explains it. And now he’s NOT denying that PS5 has more preorders. So I don’t understand your point.

As long as it’s for a free or discounted tier of GamePass or cloud gaming and is not mandatory, I’m fine with it. Not everyone can afford subscriptions. Just like most of the video streaming companies have ad-supported tiers.

How is it anti-consumer to let people who can’t afford GamePass get it cheap or free with ads? It’s just another option to make things affordable.

Agree with the other posters that said that Xbox needs this. It’s tough and totally feel bad for those losing jobs but Xbox was hemorrhaging money. This is what it will take to get Xbox back to being profitable and in it for the long term despite others who think the opposite.

How could they have possibly have continued to lose money? It was either this or shut the whole thing down. I want Xbox to survive. It will take some hard times to lead to better ones ahead.

Not really a surprise since Asha said there would be an additional 1600 layoffs coming and it’s the end of a quarter when things like this usually happen. Still said for those who lose their job and their families. Hope they find work quickly.

Definitely “Mad World”. Not even close. As another commenter said, it’s one of the best video game commercials of all-time.

Well Dweller reviews are out. 91 on OpenCritic! Knew it was going to be a special game and can’t wait to play it!

That and Dune: Awakening alone have me set for the next few weeks.

Since it’s too late to make it exclusive, I hope Fable reaches a lot of PlayStation fans and that they love it. Then make the next Fable exclusive to reel them in. 😀

I preordered Control but also am looking forward to Dune Awakening and, especially, Well Dweller.

@fatpunkslim Both are good games but if you’re only getting one, get Silent Hill 2. It’s a classic and the remake is fantastic.

I didn’t watch it live. Just reading about it but am interested in a bunch of things show. Shape of Dreams that was shadow dropped onto GamePass looks up my alley.

Would have been cool if they could have kept the Kojima / PYSINT news secret until TGS. It still would have been a surprise to have him end the show but it would have been huge to announce that bomb during it.

Shadow of Dreams is a nice surprise add. Looking forward to trying both it and Kernel Dreams tonight!

I’m a big proponent of GamePass but I’d probably drop to the lowest tier I could have just to play online if they dropped day one games. It’s the primary reason I subscribe.

@FraserG I mean they literally said nothing has been finalized so I wouldn’t just say “they’re changing plans for everything else going forward”. (Edit: you may have edited your comment or I just misread it)

They may even see all the negative reaction to this and factor that into the equation so they don’t make another mistake like last time and lose millions of subs.

Also interesting that automatically say they test changes “for different markets”. Makes you wonder if they would make plan changes only applicable for certain regions.

Really looking forward to Dune: Awakening, Well Dweller ((new Metroidvania from the Cyrpt Custodian devs that looks fantastic) and Gears: E-Day. Having those three day one alone makes this a great half-month.

Mad King Redemption also sounds promising and has “very positive” reviews on Steam. Also will take a look at Kernal Hearts.

Awesome to finally see StarCraft on console! Well, I guess it isn’t the same genre but it’s a start!

I’m shocked with all the worries GTA has about story leaks, even not doing physical to prevent it, that they wouldn’t have a worldwide release time. Guess we’ll see.

Of course, I’d be happy to do the NZ trick if this is the plan.
