Xbox First-Party Game Towerborne Ditches Free-To-Play Model, Launches 'In Full' This February

One of the perhaps forgotten Xbox Game Studios releases of 2025 was Towerborne, with Stoic's action-RPG brawler arriving in early access on Series X and S following its 2024 debut on PC, and now it's about to finally get a full launch.

It was mentioned a long time ago that the plan for Towerborne was to transition it into a free-to-play release after early access, but that's no longer the case. Instead, it'll be launching on Xbox, PC and PS5 at a price of $24.99 (or $29.99 for the Deluxe Edition) on February 26th, and it'll serve as a "buy once, offline game".

Here's how this transition is described over at Xbox Wire:

"With this full game update, Towerborne shifts from its original vision as a free-to-play, always online title into a buy once, offline game – you will own the complete experience permanently, with offline play and online co-op.

This change required deep structural rebuilding over the past year, transforming systems originally designed around constant connectivity. The result is a stronger, more accessible, and more player-friendly version of Towerborne — one we’re incredibly proud to bring to launch."

As part of the "full game update" on February 26th, Towerborne will be making some major changes — there's now a complete story and final showdown, two new bosses, a fully reworked difficulty system, a reimagined World Map, new encounters and combat challenges, a ton of new cosmetics (all acquirable through gameplay), and much more!

Here's hoping people will be willing to give Towerborne a chance when it finally, properly releases in its 1.0 state on February 26th, and keep in mind that it'll be included with both Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and Premium on that date!

"After listening to our community during Early Access and Game Preview, we learned players wanted a complete, polished experience without ongoing monetization mechanics. Moving to a premium model lets us deliver the full game upfront — no live service grind, no pay-to-win systems — just the best version of Towerborne."
