I'm not shocked. FF16 didn't make much of an impact of PS5 or PC, After all, it did so poorly that it made SE reconsider their entire approach to exclusivity. Selling it on Xbox doesn't change the fact that it's not a popular FF game.

I'm still surprised SE didn't get a Game Pass deal for it, you'd think they'd want some positive word of mouth and some nice cash in their pockets.

FF7 will do better, though how much remains to be seen. I know I'll likely be picking it up on Switch 2 (assuming it's not on fire)

@Ricky-Spanish yeah, considering the context here is Cyberpunk's launch, it's "okay" that the Series S runs at 30fps.

Considering how much they are stressing, the tech demo doesn't represent the actual Witcher 4 or the progress they've made in it, AND this constant talk of next gen being 2026/7 there's a fiart chance the Series S isn't going to be relevent.

Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of games I'm interested in that are coming out but this is my personal favourite.

It's wild to me they are starting with a game that's going to be a code in a box.

That window increase is going to be nice. I always seem to be slightly off in the multi-hit instant murder death kill attacks.

I'm still suprised it needs a beta, it's a graphical remaster of X1 remake that already got X enhancements and FPS boost on Series.

I would be perfectly happy with a MCC style package where you get (for example) the classic MW campagins with seperate MW base multiplayer.

The amount of people telling me it supports native digital console games is concerning.

Bethesda has really dropped the ball with support for SF. Remember When they claimed we'd have regular updates?

If they are done the they should say so.

This might have been the most interesting all new game at the show for me.

It bothered me that whilst it doesn't play console games, the entire segment repeatedly talked about playing all your games in one place, a true "unified" library... that doesn't include the vast majority of digital Xbox games.

I'm giving it a C. By no means a bad show but...

-I didn't see many of the games or studios I wanted to see.
-I also didn't see the Game Pass logo as much as I was expecting.
-There wasn't a big "oh my god!" moment, just lots of "looks good"
-No hall effect controller (I'm done with the pile of drifting X1/XS pads)
-Still no Activision on GP annoucement
-The quiet realisation that Starfield is probably dead, as we didn't see or hear about Starborn whilst both ESO and 76 appeared but announced nothing new.

/ That CoD trailer was... interesting. Considering BlOps 5's campaign that might be very good, but its CoD and there's a 50/50 shot it's generic as hell.
/Final Fantasy finally coming to Xbox, kinda surprised they aren't coming to Gamepass, you'd think SE would have loved to have a chunk of cash upfront for the underperformer.
/not sold on Double Fine's new game, but considering their history, I'm sure that's just a first-impressions thing.
/despite the talk of a unified library on the Xbox handheld, there was nothing that actually helped the "trapped" console games beyond the sliver on Play Anywhere and Stream Your Own Games.
/The Namco Bandai bit had me thinking their games was coming to gamepass.

+Clockwork Revolution is shaping up exactly how I was hoping it would.
+Outer Worlds 2 seems to be shifting towards more Bioshock than Fallout, and I think that works for it.
+Impressed Obsidian has yet another game on the way.
+More Plague Tale.
+The game from the Spirit Farer devs looks interesting.

Overall, it was a weird one. It wasn't a "blow the doors off" one, but it also wasn't one of those treading water, "the good times are coming" shows either.

It's what we expected it to be. I could have done without the talk of the unified library, considering the majority of the 500+ digital Xbox games I own from across 3 generations of Xbox consoles are not playable anywhere or even held hostage on the "stream your own games with Game Pass" thing.

@FraserG So it's just a Witcher-flavoured tech demo. I guess that means we shouldn't read into it running on PS5 as confirmation as current-gen release.

It's still weird to me that the gears remaster of a remake "needs" a beta.

I don't think we'll hear about the next-gen Xbox until they have something they know is going to be poorly received

1: I'm only interested in one that plays Xbox games, I there are a bunch of PC handheld available out there already and I just don't need a Xbox logo on it.
2: There is no way in hell this is going to be anywhere near affordable. Consoles offset their hardware costs because they have a captive audience. This just isn't going to have that. Your aren't going to buy anything from the Xbox Store and pay console pricing, your going to get your games of steam/GoG/Epic and pay less.

Yes. I love the console itself and quick resume and smart delivery have been amazing.

That's very much at the Day One UK RRP. It's not as easy to recommend it with the 2025 price.

I'm not confident I would have made the same choice knowing what we now know.

I suppose the contextual good news is that this time it's happening "everywhere" at MS and so we aren't going to see any studio closures but it still absolutely sucks

I've said before I'm not interested in "just" an Xbox branded handheld PC, I want it to play my Xbox games natively.

I bounced hard. On paper I should love it. I love side scrolling brawlers, I like RPG character building, I love that its online and local co-op but it just felt like the tip of f2p grind. I think I'll introduce it to my kids and then if they like it join them.

One of the reasons I prefer to use GOG wherever possible, its digital games you actually own

I have to assume this is more next gen Xbox and not more 360/OG games coming to Series XS.

I kinda hope this is aimed at bringing our Xbox libraries to PC.

@xeofate To be fair to Nintendo, they have a fair track record for BC.
The DS had BC with 3 generations of Game Boy, 3DS played DS games, Wii played GC games, Wii U played Wii games and it's always "full" BC not part of the libary

I was expecting anual price increases for CoD so I'm hoping the increase game RRP means they wont be doing that... right...

@munstahunta Don't get me wrong, you are very right, the last thing a console with spiralling sales needs is a price jump, but according to one analyst, they are spreading the damage, putting prices up everywhere, so they don't have to drastically increase the US prices alone. Their thinking being it's better to lose "some" sales globally than losing "most" US sales. In that context it makes sense...

@TheGameThrifter You could never have convinced my MS would price an Xbox X above PS5 Pro, but here we are with that US price.

I already have a Series X, so ultimately the price increase doesn't affect me, but boy, looking at those prices and even an optimistic napkin map has me thinking upgrading my PC for decent 1080p/1440p performance would be either cheaper outright or pay for itself with cheaper PC games and cheaper PC gamepass. Now theres now where it'll out perform an next gen Xbox but with these prices I think I'm happy to "settle".

Though I will freely admit that that's only because I recently checked about upgrading my PC and there was no domino upgrades need (wont need a new PCU or MB to get the upgrades I was looking at).

@Fiendish-Beaver In theory, a handheld PC could possibly function as a middle ground/transitional state.

It's less faff than a PC, the games are cheaper than console, and it removes the headache of working out which part needs upgrading and what's going to kick off a domino chain of upgrades.

@Cakefish Yeah Switch 2 digital games are fairly consistently £10 cheaper digital than physical (unless its a gamekey) which certainly suggests those new cards aren't cheap to make, and when we look at DK it looks like most games will be less than £69.99 physically, it's only their big games (and bundles) that seems to be going past the 'former' standard.

@HonestHick @RBRTMNZ I plugged the UK Series X launch price in the inflation calculator and said that equates to £561 in today's money, so I guess it "only" costing £499 represents the "savings" we'd normally see.

(out of interest, I reversed it, £499 in 2020's money is £360)

As it stands, I do not see a reason to buy the next Xbox, it makes more sense to me to buy whatever 2026/7s PC handheld of choice is or upgrade my PC, and have access to ALL PC storefronts, all Xbox games, many PS games and CHEAPER Game Pass.

Don't get me wrong, I'm really hoping Spencer's "We're going to be at Sony on features, not by withholding exclusives" manifests something and I'll happily buy NeXbox instead.

However, whoever is in charge of scheduling needs a kick in the bottom. Having Oblivion drop 2 days before Clair Obscur was silly.

I think this shows just how much the term Remaster has been abused over the years to the point where Oblivion, Dead Rising, or Tomb Raider are heralded for doing what Remasters are supposed to do, improve the graphics and controls to let fantastic games find a new audience.

Don't get me wrong, the Oblivion Remaster is riding the very edge of the difference.

I'm really excited about this game but I'm not sure about bouncing between oblivion and it.

LG TV support is "weird". Like Paramount+ isn't supported on my 4K TV but is on my HD one.

Hopefully, more people are actually playing through it. I was taking my time, doing a chapter a day and missed several days, and every "complete chapter X" achievement was Rare with an incredibly low %.

@Kezelpaso When everything unlocks, it's a good base. I did find myself wanting a combo list, something I could play with without making the actual mechanics more complex.

Fantastic game let down by the most "okayist" combat that ever did "fine" in the history of "eh".
