Xbox First-Party Release Barges Into Top-10 Played Games During Launch Week

Microsoft's South of Midnight made its proper debut for Xbox Game Pass on April 8th, and within the first week of that release, the Xbox first-party title climbed into the top-10 most played games on the platform.

With data shared by Circana's Mat Piscatella, we can see that SOM's Game Pass release propelled it to number nine on Xbox by total weekly active users in the US. That was up from 91st the week prior, when the game had been available towards the end of the first week of April for people in early access.

The second table from the left is the one that covers the Xbox platform:

Considering South of Midnight felt like a more subdued release compared to other recent Xbox first-party titles (Indiana Jones, Avowed etc., we think this is pretty good going overall. Of course, that leap from 91st to 9th probably tells us how instrumental an Xbox Game Pass launch was to get people playing this particular title as well.

Either way, this is good news, especially for us here at Pure Xbox HQ. A few of us now have waxed lyrical about just how much we love this game - and hopefully good engagement figures leads to a positive outlook from Microsoft. Of course, sales would be nice too, but South of Midnight is the exact sort of game that makes something like Xbox Game Pass a valuable and attractive service.
