Xbox Cloud Gaming has taken the next step in its journey today with the announcement that a new dedicated xCloud app is now available on "select" LG TVs, allowing you to play games without even needing a console for them!
Specifically, Xbox says that "2022 OLED TVs, select 2023 LG Smart TVs, and newer models, along with smart monitors running webOS24 or later versions" all support the new Xbox Cloud Gaming app. If you have access to an LG "StanbyME" screen, you'll soon be able to access the Xbox Cloud Gaming app on there as well.
"Conveniently accessible from the Gaming Portal and the LG Apps, the Xbox app enables LG TV owners to jump straight into gameplay from day one with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, launching hundreds of titles from Activision, Bethesda, Blizzard, Mojang, Xbox Game Studios and more – with just a compatible controller."
Of course, you'll still need an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription in order to play these titles via the new LG TV Xbox app, but once you're signed up, you'll have access to most of the library on there - plus all the new "Stream Your Own Game" titles on Xbox that allow you to stream games that you've previously bought on an Xbox console.
There are a few extra things to be aware of, so we'll throw those down below courtesy of LG, but otherwise - it's time to get started! Simply head to the LG Gaming Portal, find the Xbox app, and then start enjoying your games via the cloud.
Gaming Portal is available on LG screens running webOS23 and beyond in Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Ireland, Mexico, Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkiye, UK and USA and will expand to more markets and down to LG screens running webOS 6.0 by the second quarter.
[Support includes] 2022 OLED TVs, 2023 OLED, QNED, NanoCell and UHD TVs – which have been updated to software version 23.20.01 or higher.
