Re: Xbox Adds Multiple Highly-Requested Features In April 2025 Update

abe_hikura

I'm not fully on board of replacing the app remote play with a browser-based solution. I would gladly be happy to be proven wrong, but it seems like that's less efficient than a dedicated function within an app.

Don't get me wrong, it's a step in the right direction but I still smile at the irony of championing "your games your way" requiring a subscription to stream games you own. (I still think between this and the "everything is an Xbox" push there should be a stream only tier)

Again, fully understand they need to control the number of people using it during "beta", it's more complex, and it has to be funded and all. I get that

But it's hard to ignore that I don't need a sub to stream, my purchased content on Amazon or Sky Store on other devices.

Re: Titanfall 3 Is Suddenly Being Rumoured Again, Said To Be 'Almost Complete'

abe_hikura

I don't think Respawn has distanced itself from Titanfall; it's widely agreed that EA killed Titanfall 2 by launching it between CoD: Infinite and Battlefield. Respawn making Titanfall 3 (and realising the engine wasn't up to it) is how they ended up with Apex Legends.

I think it's more than they got busy. Apex took off in an insane way, and they got the chance to make a Star Wars game

Re: Phil Spencer 'Very Excited' About Xbox Handheld Plans For 2025

abe_hikura

Said it before and I'll say it again I have no interest in a Xbox handheld if it's just an Xbox-branded handheld PC. There's already a bunch of those that are going to be cheaper/better than whatever this is (which is almost certainly an Ally with an Xbox button.)

I'm funny like that, I want an Xbox handheld to play my Xbox Library.

Re: ZZZ Is Officially Coming To Xbox, Announcement Stream Revealed

abe_hikura

I played those for a bit on my Retroid. Was fun enough but really taxed that system.
I'll give this a shot wheb it comes to Xbox. I ended up bouncing from Genshin oretty hard.
That being said my gacha quota (where I don't spend a penny) is being filled with Frontline 2: Exilum which got its narrative and sRPG hooks into me before it got... a little letchy.

Re: Five Ways The Switch 2 Reveal Has Been A Huge Win For Xbox

abe_hikura

I'm not sure these are as big as wins as implied.

As noted, Sony and others were already charging for next-gen upgrades (and upgrading PS4 games to PS5 was a pain in the chair padding (look at the 2K and Activision crossgen nonsense), Don't get me wrong Xbox Smart deliver is fantastic, but if it didn't win over folks by now, they aren't going to care what the Switch 2 does.

Digitally and UK speaking, the most expensive Switch 2 games are £67 (DK is less, the gamekey games are also cheaper suggesting this is production related), that's cheaper than most AAA Xbox games which launch at £69.99. Physical prices are only £5 higher than a AAA Xbox game (if it gets a physical launch) but Switch 1 games were like £10 more expensive at launch before eventually settling down to digital levels.

Re: Xbox Series X|S Sales Now Trailing Almost 20% Behind Xbox One In The US

abe_hikura

If anything I'm surprised it's not trailing more.
I LOVE the Series X, it's probably my favourite non-Nintendo console to play on but at this rate, I wont be buying an Xbox "prime" or whatever it ends up being called.

They are gonna have to seriously woo me with the "Sony beating features" and if the words 8K have anything to do with that I am out.

Re: Sniper Elite: Resistance Gets Free DLC On Xbox Game Pass

abe_hikura

I'm enjoying Resistance for what it is "a more of the same, standalone game". Don't get me wrong if it was 6 I'd be disappointed.

@Fiendish-Beaver Narratively I think it's supposed to be happening at roughly the same time as 5 (I suspect the actual reason was to "hand a lantern" on the fact this isn't supposed to be SE 6.

Re: Alan Wake Remastered Free Copies Are Being Revoked By Xbox

abe_hikura

@Kaloudz it's a weird thing they do Alan and Casey/Max Payne have separate face and voice actors, it's common enough in older other games but it's super weird considering Alan Wake 2 features these characters in live-action sequences.

Oh Alan's face actor also plays a separate character in live-action but actually voices him so you have this weird bit where this actor is playing two characters interacting but only one is using his voice.

Re: Alan Wake Remastered Free Copies Are Being Revoked By Xbox

abe_hikura

@Kaloudz I played it for a few hours after I finished 2. As a remaster it's "fair" it strips out the product placements with in-universe ones, makes Alan look more like the actor, and includes the usual DLC/better framerate (target)/higher res/improved textures.

It still plays like a 360 game.

Re: Talking Point: Will The New '2027' Xbox Console Have Steam Support?

abe_hikura

It'd be really interesting, mostly because having PC storefronts means Microsoft is making less money from game sales and developers do not need to make a bespoke Xbox version or need it to be available on Xbox/MS storefronts and still be accessible to Xbox players. Which kinda ruins how consoles make money whilst selling the platform at a loss.

From a "the meat lump on the controller side" it should be great I can save money buying the Steam/GoG/Epic versions, have greater control on performance, as well as being able to (in theory) play Fallout London on my Xbox.

I do think it dose face the same problem as Steam Machines and it's gonna have to justify it's existence vs buying a PC.

Re: Talking Point: If The Next-Gen Xbox Is More 'PC-Like', Will You Still Buy It?

abe_hikura

Much like the Steam machines before, it would have to justify its existence vs a regular PC.

Is it cheaper than that a PC of the same spec? Because that seems unlikely as consoles are sold at lost and make money from game licensing and store sales, if it supports other storefronts why should we (customers) buy from the Xbox store if the Steam/GoG/Epic version is cheaper? why should they (developers) bother making a Xbox version when the PC version works "fine"

That being said, creating a weirdo Psudo-PC that plays BC console games and has access to PC storefronts is the best way for them to leave the console business as our console libraries would (presumably) be accessible on PC in the future
