@Kaloudz I'd say play them all, even Judgment. The latter is much different than the numbered games, has more of an arcade feel to it, but the shooting galleries are still fun.
@Fenbops
Agree about the open world. I love exploring and don't mind open-ended environments but to me Gears has always been about the moment-to-moment set piece shootouts so I do hope in 6, if they go 'open' again they cut down on the scale a bit.
I might be in the minority on this but I really like 4 and 5. Yes, 4 'played it safe' and 5 had some story choices I didn't like (especially the unnecessary and idiotic forced decision at the end) but I'm still hyped for 6, few third person shooters are as fun just from a pure gameplay perspective.
Been playing the game on PS5 and really like it a lot. The one thing that really annoys me, though, and this isn't exclusive to Wanted: Dead but has happened in other games too, is having to beat it on all difficulties to get the real ending. That's just an obnoxious tactic.
Main focus will be Dead Space remake (Xbox Series X) but might work in a few other games. Still going through Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion (PS5) as well.
One of my favorite games from last year. I'll third person a try but will probably go back to first person very quickly since I'm so used to playing the game that way.
I'd definitely buy the collection day one if it happens, Gears of War is my second favorite Xbox first party franchise after Forza. And while I didn't like Gears 4 or 5 as much as the original trilogy I still liked them a lot and look forward to 6.
@FraserG Thanks for covering the game. Have this at the top of my most-wanted list, I miss those original Xbox era action games and can't wait to give this a try.
As long as Series X/S preforms better than the Xbox One did, that's the important thing for the brand. This gen has to be better than last and so far that seems to be the case. Even with all the questions about lack of first party software in 2022, it also doesn't seems talk about Xbox is as negative overall as it was during the One's entire time on the market.
Monster Hunter Rise, easily. But I've played so much of it on Switch I'm not sure how soon I'll get around to it on Series X, especially with Dead Space remake launching this month and Wanted: Dead in February.
Depending on how new somebody is to Xbox in general, I might put a good number, much than six, of backward compatible games on the list. There's some legendary titles that were cleaned up very nicely by the new hardware as well.
1. Wanted: Dead 2. Street Fighter 6 3. Dead Space remake 4. Forza Motorsport 5. Redfall
@Cassislight Yes, the lack of acknowledgement for it here on Pure Xbox is disappointing. Even if the writers don't care for it, it'd be cool if they listed on this website in the upcoming games category.
@Amin1998 Yes it was and if Ninja Theory hadn't made a couple Heavenly Sword, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West and Hellblade 1, all of which are great games, I'd be a little bit concerned. Still hyped but it is disappointing that it's not ready by now.
C overall. The hardware, backwards compatibility (which hopefully isn't over like has been suggested) and services I'd give an A. Third party games a B (2021 was really strong imo, 2022 I felt was a down year for the AAA industry on the whole not just Xbox, indies were great though). First party is a D and I really considered giving an F. There is no excuse with the amount of $ MS has and the amount it's spent buying up studios and publishers not to have a better showing at this point. And you can say 'games take time' that excuse falls flat when it's year after year and it has been this way for a while now. No more 'just be patient,' it's past time to get the great Xbox console exclusives out, they are needed in a big way.
Don't know the exact number but it was in the 20-30 range, mostly backwards compatible titles I skipped over during the 360 gen but due to some great sales and the fact some of them get One X and Series X enhancements I decided to take advantage of that.
I split the major AAA purchases between XSX and PS5. I always go for disc copies of those if possible and got the good majority of them on day one or within the first week of release.
I only ranked the ones I played... 5 points - TMNT: Shredder's Revenge 4 points - A Plague Tale: Requiem 3 points - Immortality 2 points - Guardians of the Galaxy
I respect From Software for what it does but the studio's games never click with me so I didn't play Elden Ring. Considering all the accolades the game has received I do think it's important for me to mention that before I list my top 5... 1. TMNT Shredder's Revenge 2. Sonic Frontiers 3. The King of Fighters XV 4. Gotham Knights 5. A Plague Tale: Requiem
Sonic was the surprise of the year for me. I was hoping it'd be good but didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did. It's a very flawed game but there were some cyberspace levels that were great, maybe among the best in the series, and the open world was fun to play around in. Lays good groundwork for the future.
Playing Sonic Generations, one of my favorite 360 games, on the Series X when I got one last December was a crazy experience. It was a night and day difference and shows what a great feature backwards compatibility is and what a strength it can be for the console this gen if some more Xbox/X360 classics can be added to the program some day.
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII is my favorite game in the entire series so eventhough I'm playing it on PS5, I'd still say on Xbox the best FF game on offer is CC: FFVII Reunion.
Xbox Series X - Sonic Frontiers, Dead or Alive Ultimate
PS5 - God of War: Ragnarök, Gotham Knights, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion (so far, it's just wanted from a remaster of one of my favorite PSP games)
1. TMNT: Shredder's Revenge (my Game of the Year across Xbox, Switch and PlayStation)
2. Sonic Frontiers (despite its flaws, this is some of the most fun I've had gaming in 2022)
3. The King of Fighters XV
4. Gotham Knights
5.A Plague Tale Requiem
Xbox Series X - Sonic Frontiers, Dead or Alive 2 Ultimate (just bought the DoA Ultimate box set brand new the other day to replace the one I idiotically traded away with some other games back in the mid-2000s when I upgraded from original Xbox to the 360)
Free is always good. Nice to see Sega will be giving this some strong post-launch support. Reviews may have been mixed but it's genuinely one of my favorite games of the year, even with some of its flaws. Can't wait for all these updates, especially the new characters and story content.
It was a tough choice between SC Chaos Theory, Blacklist and Ghost Recon: Future Solider but in the end I went with Future Soldier. Played the heck out of that game.
Was looking forward to seeing how this website would review the game, great write up.
Been a fan of Sonic the Hedgehog going all the way back to the start. I'm only on the second island (I take a long time playing open world games because I explore everything to a ridiculous degree) but so far I'm happy to say I really like what I've played. The best Sonic Team-developed entry in the series since 2010-11 with Colors and Generations. The vast majority of the Cyber Space levels have been enjoyable, the combat is great, it's fun unlocking the maps.
I still rank the Genesis/Game Gear/Sega CD era 2D Sonic games above all else in the series (with the exception of Generations which I'd put just behind Sonic 1, 2 and CD) but this one is moving up my list of favorites.
Forza Horizon 5 which is legitimately an awesome game. But what this poll really tells me is MS has got to do a better job on the first party front and it has to start soon. With all the studios it has been buying up since 2018 there is no excuse for this not to be a much better list.
Played most of these games in some form except for the Lynx and Jaguar games, this is my first experience with those and they're the main reason I bought the collection. Really enjoy Malibu Volleyball, Cybermorph and Fight for Life.
For one, it's having the most powerful Xbox console again. I never upgraded my 2014 Xbox One so it's been a long time since I could say I'm getting the optimal experience. Beyond that, I've got to say a big reason I got a Series X was not just because I wanted to play games like Halo Infinite, Forza Horizon 5, King of Fighters XV, Sonic Frontiers, etc, at their best but also because I'm a huge fan of the original Xbox and especially the 360 and the Series X has excellent backwards compatibility. Most of my favorites are available and with some having One X and Series X enhancements, it makes things even better. Hope they find a way to get a few more games added to the bc catalog in the future.
I'd say so. Halo: Reach is my favorite campaign but 3 is a very close second and with multiplayer factored in, I go with 3 as the best overall package. If I were to rank my top 5 in the series... 1. Halo 3 2. Reach 3. 2 4. Combat Evolved 5. Infinite
@Exerion76
Yeah, I don't know about moving on from Halo but I do wish MS and Bungie had been able to work out some differences. Stop Halo after Reach, let Bungie work on new stuff, let some other companies do some Halo spinoffs to keep the IP in the public and then, when (if) the time was right, have Bungie revisit the main series again.
@Member_the_game I didn't really get into the online aspect of the game but I'm convinced that's a huge part of, maybe even the main reason why, GTA V has remained such a huge deal.

Can't think of anything about the original that needs changes for a 'modern audience' except updating controls to be a bit better. Re: Talking Point: Where Do You Want 'Tomb Raider' To Go Next?
Something closer in tone to the originals, or at least the Legend/Anniversary/Underworld era. Lara getting beat up all the time isn't fun.
