@Questionable_Duck That is both surprising and unsurprising. Activision despising their community is nothing new... but I would have thought for sure that some knock on effects of being owned by Xbox now would trickle down.

Sucks to be wrong on that one. Even EA is nicer than Acti. (EA has granted fan projects the green light to completely recreate old games for free in modern engines, like Renegade X.)

Cool. Microsoft and Sega are both really good when it comes to fan games, they don't really strike anyone down, which is good.

But, Mojang, hear me out... I'd love a Minecraft Survivors game. You can get real weird with it, Frank Reynolds-tier weird. Creeper crossbows, milk machine guns, cat claymores (kitty ears on the mines, I'm not a monster)....

There's a lot of untapped potential in it, for real.

Regardless on the leaks and who is trustworthy or not... the big takeaway should be that nothing is confirmed until you hear it from Xbox themselves. Hope for it if you'd like (I would like it!) but don't actually expect anything until you see an official confirmation.

Or some crazy in depth leak that Xbox inadvertently confirms in their rush to get the leak taken down. You know. Either or.

I hope 2030 because this generation hasn't even gotten started, Microsoft only stopped releasing Xbox ONE games two years ago. I doubt it though.

All I can say is that I'm highly skeptical but I really hope they prove the doubter in me wrong. I want them to get a huge win.

A lot of this feels like Xbox just trying to toss a hail mary throw to save themselves. I really want to be optimistic about this but I can't tell how this is meant to work with a potential price being enormous, lacking exclusives that will now be available on cheaper competitor hardware (at least PS5 for a few years more after all this) while also skewering their profits further with potentially allowing other storefronts to be accessed.

Will Game Pass be required to even play Steam games online on this device? If not, how will the community take it when they can either buy a game on the Xbox store and be stuck paying to access online, or can just get it on Steam without that extra hassle?

I can't wrap my head around dozens of problem points with this potential console.

Edit: Adding late, however, that Xbox still making hardware is good. They're... some sort of competition still, but I just can't see how this works out. With that said, I very much hope I am proven wrong. I WANT to be wrong about this.

I'm very let down that game wise, this seems to be the bare minimum effort. PS1 only? No N64 versions? They're missing out on exclusive levels... not to mention the massive delay from announce to release.

Why did it take so long when it was bare bones? At least they added in the PAL region with an update... but that not even being ready for release is pathetic.

@SMJ Probably tracking via playtime. They've done this before, gave everyone who had a physical copy of Minecraft Xbox One Edition a digital copy of Minecraft Bedrock, so long as they played x amount of hours with the disc inserted. I imagine they're doing the same here, but retroactively this time.

@Nintendo4Sonic Unfortunately I think you'll see less and less support as time goes on. This will likely be the last generation with a disc drive, with a possible (but VERY slim chance of) disc drive add-on like the PS5... but likely with the same PS5 caveat that it'll need an internet connection to authorize. Xbox shuttered their physical division already and all this stuff is being done by third parties. It's been over.

@Fiendish-Beaver @Nintendo4Sonic this is the real surprise, I wholly expected them to pretend disc's no longer exist and wouldn't honor them. Glad that was wrong.

Beaver, you'll probably only get one. I have Ultimate on both Xbone and PC, I'll update if I get two keys but I doubt it. Would be nice if they gave us something for being double dippers...

@jFug I really thought it was Evil Within 3 for a few moments, or maybe a sequel to Quantum Break. I appreciate COD getting weird... but seeing that it was COD really was a letdown lmao

It was pretty decent overall. I liked it, but let's be honest.. the ending was so stupid it actually hurt the rating.

Phil grins as he as reveals the last surprise for the showcase... it's just the yearly COD. OMG NO WAY WHAT!!!!!!

There are three constants in life: Death, taxes, and COD. The surprise would have been no COD. Ending the show with that, treating it like some major unbelievable reveal, was damn stupid. Clockwork Revolution being the show closer would have been the smart play. (It looks SO good.)

I'm saying this as someone who does play Blops 6 and likes COD. Come on, now.

I'm a Suda51 diehard, this is the only game that grabbed my interest yesterday. I actually skipped it until someone told me "hey that developer you like had a thing on this showcase" and knowing my shortlist is basically just Suda51 I zoomed to the showcase to watch.

But can't blame him. His games are pretty niche. There's no way they'd stand up to GTA6, but very very few games could... if any even could. Not sure.

@jikflet Thank you. I was cautious googling because sometimes those results will throw spoilers up for something if it's a remake/remaster of a game.

I'm a Silent Hill novice so I'm not sure, is this a remake or a new game? Either way it looks great, I'm just unfamiliar with most of the series.

@Kaloudz I'd actually be surprised if FF7R is a day one gamepass add. It's very possible but I just remember Sony making demands of third parties to not release games like RE8 on Gamepass. I would be surprised if they've relaxed on this, even if FF7R is "old news" to them.

Edit: Not a demand but a "payment blockage" so basically a bribe, and I'd be shocked if they didn't try that with FF7R

Also I've only played Persona 4 but it's a killer game. It's very much all the strengths of a JRPG, and the cast being high-schoolers (roughly) doesn't actually hurt it. They're just likable students caught up in a crazy situation trying their best to help put a stop to it. Also the music is SICK. I'd recommend at least giving 4 (maybe 5, have heard great things there too) a shot. I played P4 in my late 20s and still connected with the cast. They're not any longer than FF games.

Xbox and management issues go hand in hand. I hope it's still coming, but this almost seems the norm for them.

@Kaloudz This is what I never understood about Capcom... they slap the RE name on anything MP related, good or not, when they already had a winning formula. Why not remake Outbreak games and massively expand the amount of randomization in missions to make it truly replayable?

Even if not.. Mercenaries co-op and Versus was great. They have two proven ideas already but refuse them. I don't get it.

Also RIP Xbone First Descendant. Was playing that casually, but must've been just me doing so. ;_;7

I would genuinely be surprised. They could barely muster a shrug during the closing of the 360 store, refusing to even put their own games on sale.

Always wondered why Metaphor skipped Xbox One. Other Sega/Atlus teams still release for it, but Metaphor is probably the only one out of their recent releases that clearly has the lowest spec requirements.

Please don't say "free with gamepass". I know it's kind of a case of semantics because everyone knows what you mean, but "included with gamepass" is a far more appropriate term.

It's kind of a pet peeve, but if it was truly free, game pass wouldn't be necessary.

I hope this doesnt just mean FF7R or just big names. Smaller games like Harvestella (which is a Switch console exclusive for some reason) should get ports to Xbox and PlayStation too.

Gameplay wise, I'm glad none of the three new-era Doom games play the same. It's good to experiment and make sure the games don't just feel like expansion packs to what came before. I say that as someone who didn't care for 2016 (imo felt too sterile and bland), loved Eternal, but am not sold on Dark Ages.

Each one having a unique identity and formula is great. People may not remember now but Doom 2 was heavily criticized for just being an expansion pack to Doom but with the super shotgun... glad that hasn't been repeated.

Xenoverse 2 will NEVER die. It's the game that will keep going despite all odds. When the earth is destroyed by nuclear warfare in the far future, there will only be cockroaches and an Xbox hooked up to a TV somewhere with the Xenoverse 2 main menu theme blaring.

Add more characters to the multiplayer roster. I need my Boomer Lady.

AI still isn't perfect. I throw math questions at it (I'm 33, not in education, just testing AI for fun) and it frequently gets more complicated ones wrong, at least on the first few tries. If they plan to use it to ease up on complex tasks, they're asking for a world of hurt when it inevitably starts falling apart at the seams. It's really not foolproof or completely trustworthy.

AI hallucinates, misreads things, or spits up garbage in the interest of giving you what you want, not what might be accurate.

I would not. I'm still running my Xbone S. It's gonna have to last me even longer than I anticipated!

@Utena-mobile Pretty much this. Corporations are not friends, they don't like us. They like our money, which a lot of people get confused.

@Coletrain GTA, Elden Ring, etc are rare exceptions. The super-huge popular games will always be an exception, but everything else, 99% of dev output, falls into a gap of "Eh, I'll wait." - it's something you can see even posted on Pure Xbox from time to time

@BacklogBrad I mean, I buy games too so my own argument already has flaws, but I rarely subscribe to Game Pass. A lot of people who own GP though just don't play anything unless it's on GP or say "I'll wait until it gets added".

I did a double take when I saw Max Payne 3 on this list, lol. Not part of golden week but amusing to see mixed in. There's also a LOT of smaller Japanese games still on sale with the spring sale, stuff from Marvelous is real cheap right now.

Microsoft trained their audience to not buy games so it at least makes sense that game pass pays out in a different way. So long as it's profitable, I guess.

Well I once said that Xbox wouldn't ever get a Lethal Company (using an example of an indie smash hit) of their own with the way they've been doing things.. but this is kind of proving the opposite, or at least showing they can still do it to some extent.

I guarantee you this would never happen if it was a popular title. Not in a million years would they block a GTA 6 over something like this. Selective roaches over at Xbox bending rules when it benefits them.

Worst kept secret in gaming in a looooong time. I still haven't played Classic properly, so this is going even further back on the playlist than that.

I've played a good bit of this on PC, and if you're looking for something relaxing to play, this is definitely one to consider. It's very laid back and enjoyable.

While I'm not a fan of Bnet, this is pretty interesting. And the fact Play Anywhere somehow is supported is a HUGE win. Microsoft needs to strike while the iron is hot and advertise that feature right NOW. Rub Nintendo's greedy noses in it.

An announcement theyre selling Banjo to Playtonic or Nintendo, with the potential of Crash and Spyro being sold as well. Giving them to a company that will actually use them would be huge.

Besides that, Clockwork Revolution or whatever the hell Contraband is supposed to be.

These practices actually make me ashamed to say that I've purchased some of their games. They're not awful if you're into that old RE style done by a small/tiny budget team, but this business practice is scummy and Xbox do need to crack down on stuff like this.

@Utena-mobile An ignore feature is essentially mandatory nowadays with how much junk can flood stores. Trying to browse the Switch eShop is nightmarish... but I probably don't need to tell you/anyone else that.

@EdgarTheBug There is a chance it ends up biting them. The 3DS-- ended its run as an incredible handheld-- started on a terrible foot and had to be slashed in price along with Nintendo eating a massive slice of humble pie.

The Nintendo fans didn't save them during that, nor did they with the Wii U. Of course I'm not saying "guaranteed nintendo flop OMG", just that there's a very real 50/50 shot of either outcome happening-- where it's a success or a vast under-performer that causes them to repeat what they did with the 3DS.

These would be incredible deals if WB didn't constantly put Lego games on massive discount. You could probably get all of these for little under the full price of one, so the deal is... almost maybe worth it? Ehh.

I know this generation is stagnant but, MAN. Can really feel it during these big sales. Cue that NIN song, Everyday Is Exactly The Same. New sale, same deals.
