In the new announcement video, which we've covered up above, Xbox President Sarah Bond mentioned how Microsoft is working with AMD on "a portfolio of devices including our next-generation Xbox consoles, in your living room and in your hands". That could mean a number of things, but the way Bond said it — and with Microsoft already announcing its ROG Xbox Ally handheld — we can't help but wonder if a hybrid console like the Nintendo Switch could be in the plans at some point.
"I am thrilled to share we've established a strategic multi-year partnership with AMD to co-engineer silicon across a portfolio of devices including our next-generation Xbox consoles, in your living room and in your hands."
Of course, this partnership announce doesn't go into that level of detail just yet, but the thought is an interesting one to ponder. It's not the first time we've heard about this as a potential plan — Windows Central reported on a hybrid-style next-gen Xbox just about a month ago — so it could be something that Microsoft is working on. Of course, that was just a report and plans change (that specific device has supposedly been "sidelined" for the moment), but it's clear that the team is starting to consider multiple form factors for next-gen gaming.
Another thing that's worth noting here is that Bond deliberately talked about multiple devices as part of today's reveal, so if something like this is real, it doesn't necessarily mean it'll be the only next-gen Xbox around. For now, we'll have to continue to speculate on what all of this means for the future of the platform, but Microsoft is certainly hard at work right now developing its next generation of gaming devices.
