From a technical standpoint this is cool, a machine remaking something from its own memory on the fly as an interactive concept is incredibly interesting, but that's about where my excitement ends.
I do think AI can be cool but I don't trust big corporations with it. This at least is an amusing use of it.
I don't pay for games at $70. $60 was my breaking point, so that's just not happening.
I wait for sales. I have a huge backlog, and indie games have increasingly been out-performing "AAA" games quality wise. I'm not missing out on anything.
@Wakkawipeout Bullet Witch has been available on PC for a few years now, an in-house team shaped it up.
I hope some more 360 games get a second chance at life. Not only games that were available at shutdown, but even those stripped away earlier on in the lifespan of the console. Splatterhouse really should have gotten a PC port...
@Ricky-Spanish The devs have stated if Croc does well they plan to remaster 2 and even look into a new game... I know I've mentioned it before but I'm just excited, buying it day 1 myself!
Croc! I'm most excited for that. I really want it to do well, devs have stated if it's successful they'll remaster Croc 2 and even see about a new game.
This isn't surprising. Sony will only, only, only consider Xbox ports if it's their LAST possible move. And even then I think they'd have to be dragged kicking and screaming into it. Which is why Xbox porting exclusives to their console will only strengthen them.
I really hope this game finally breaks out of that janky rut Compulsion games have always been in. I haven't been convinced by footage yet but I really hope it's a knockout.
@Kaloudz It's a compilation of the original Gex (a 2D platformer), Gex 2, a 3D platformer, and Gex 3, also a 3D platformer.
I think the different versions will be included in the compilation considering how notable they were, and the compilation has taken years to come out so I imagine a good portion of that was dealing with legal issues.
...Also my mind only retains dumb information, like this stuff. I wish I could remember actually important things, but nope. Obscure 3D platformer trivia yes, remembering the date of upcoming appointments and rent payment = NOPE. lol
@Kaloudz Gex 2 in particular was pretty good, speaking from memory and we know how nostalgia blinds us.. it was really shocking at the time because it had some incredibly on the nose parodies of popular media around the time. One level is quite literally just a Looney Tunes level complete with ACME hijinks, another is based on the Titanic. Dated now for sure, but amusing for the time. I think it had varying levels depending on which console you had, but the upcoming collection has all the different console versions.
Also! Gex had different voice actors for the US and UK versions. They're tailored for each region, but it might be a shock to try different versions of the game when it releases. UK Gex is much more suave and Bond-esque, US Gex is more of a dopey quip-and-reference slinging knucklehead like the 80s ninja turtles.
@Kaloudz I think it would still be Pocketpair's fault since they did it (in this hypothetical scenario), because I don't know if their legal team would even think to consider comparing their code with a Pokemon game, since outright stealing that is such a blatantly bad idea.
@Kaloudz I'm not sure, I've heard two patents related to riding a creature you've captured in a 3D space and then also summoning/capturing a creature with an item in a 3D space.
The fact MMOs (or survival games like ARK) have technically done this for decades I guess is ignored.. a lot of Nintendo's patents were rejected recently in the US, so there is SOME common sense at least.
But also if what @ilyn said is true I will also agree pocketpair has it coming, but I would be shocked they'd have lawyers check everything for safety and then pull a negative 1billion IQ move like that.
@Kaloudz Gex, Glover, and Croc all getting re-releases in the same year is really surreal to me. I'm happy for it but it feels kind of like 8 year old me is dreaming about the future as I imagined it back then. New consoles but more of the stuff I loved (and still do) at the time.
@Ricky-Spanish I'm in the same boat. I will happily slap down $30 USD day one but any more and I'm gonna hesitate.
Some cool news though? Argonaut confirmed in a recent livestream that if Croc does well, they plan to remaster Croc 2 AND see about a new game. I'm very optimistic as a 3D platformer fan.
Technically yes it is time for a new gen if you go by years, but for value or showcasing what the hardware can do? HELL no. Most of this generation has been spent spinning their wheels and Sony regurgitating remakes.
Xbox is only finally starting to find their footing after endless years and that's at the tail end of the generation. This has been a horrible generation in general, just based on what they've done (and the PS5 pro was absolutely unnecessary..) with the hardware. I dunno. I feel like this generation is the one that needs to be doubled in length because sweet-expletive-all has been done.
@Kaloudz To the best of my knowledge, they're suing based on throwing a ball to capture a creature with that being a patent. So essentially a net, yes.
I've been wondering for years where Minecraft Dungeons, Fallout 4, Skyrim, etc... are. These are games that are technically first party now, so where's the Play Anywhere? I'm not double-dipping on Dungeons.
@NeoRatt If they hadn't bought Activision, it could have been possible. Not too likely now, considering how scrutinized that deal was and how it changed them overall.
I don't see Ubisoft selling the Tom Clancy name, or Assassins Creed. Far Cry is a MAYBE. My blood would run cold if they bought Rayman just to chokeslam him right into the dusty storage bin next to Crash, Spyro, and Banjo. Prince of Persia is a maybe... but why would Microsoft want that? Call of Juarez, Driver, Might and Magic, Brothers In Arms...
They already have too many IPs they're sitting on, it's like a fetish for them to hoard but do nothing with them. The Smiling Friends episode about Gwimbly was a bang-on parody of most modern publishers (including Xbox) for a reason.
Maybe they're looking to grab the rights to some old licensed games like Ubisoft's old TMNT games? This one is REALLY far fetched, but being able to just have the rights to the games published under one roof would make it easier when trying to renew deals with the IP holder. (This one is like 0.000001% likely I'm just spitballing but with them still wanting to preserve their history, these are a few of the 360 games still lost to time)
@Kaloudz Yeah. Sorry for the delay in reply here, but a lot of feedback has been negative even going back to when they first showed the game off last year. Tripwire only hit the panic button now, but I guess it's better than not at all.
There are some rare positive reactions, but by and large it's been negative.
I 100%'d No More Heroes 3 on console, and I was hoping the saves transferred between versions... they do not, unfortunately. I don't have it in me to slog another 50 hours for RNG drops in just a week so I'm gonna have to wait for a big sale.
@Kaloudz I personally don't think so. I'm thinking that maybe they'll re-work the lighting and make the maps more grimy to fit with the style of the first two, but the huuuuge issues are there to stay, at least for a good while after release. They did say the ability to pick classes independent of characters will be after the delayed release, so that's... the state we're in. At least we still have the first two games, even if this doesn't work out.
These sales are symbolic of how stagnant this generation has been. Not that I'm complaining about games being on sale, even if many of these are now regulars to massive discounts. Barely anything new crops up, or it's a lot of indie stuff you have to really dig around to find. Ah well. I pick at least one or two of these up every month, so I'm slowly checking them off the list.
I wish I'd found this article when it first went up. I'm WAY late, but I had a lot of vitriol towards Xbox and Phil for seeing the 360 off with what was basically a wet fart of a goodbye.
I still think they could've done better-- even put their first-party games on sale, seriously-- but this statement at least is something. Something akin to empty words, probably, but better than just pure silence.
@Kaloudz I'd recommend watching some YouTube videos on KF3. It's.. Killing Floor in name only. It really looks like they AI generated a co-op hero shooter based on Doom.
Some aspects look really neat, like levels with objectives, but in general the game just looks.. bad.
I'm tempted to grab this, I play a lot of Festival and though I don't think my RB2 instruments will work on newer Xbox hardware, it'd be nice to have something to give me an excuse to buy RB4.
Now we just need the greatest rock song ever made, I Wanna Rock Your Body (Till the Break of Dawn), to truly put this controller to the test.
I remember when Skype forced MSN Messenger into irrelevance. Its still my favorite chat service despite being gone for so long now.
I dont know if you remember but Messenger used to be on the 360. It'd show what game you were playing as your status, and MSN messages would pop up on the dash notifier, and you could reply to them on the console. It was the coolest damn thing for a time, predating common features on discord now.
.. Oh, also, S to spit on Skype's grave. I'll forever hold a grudge over killing MSN Messenger. I'm being a bit petulant I know.
I've been waiting for this! I loved Gex, though I'm sure it hasn't aged as well as I remember it. Just glad this finally has a release, it's been years since the announcement!
@Kaloudz I was curious and did a little more nosing around about it, looking at the countdown HTML page says "thps-3-4-countdown"
...which could still just be related to the day it's being announced, but the date itself is not at all subtle. Either this is a kind of mean prank on remaster hopefuls or it is just 3+4.
God I just remembered THPS3 was the last N64 game ever released. Time is accelerating way too fast.
The new parks statement makes me think it's not a 3+4 remaster. Weird to say they're new if it's a remaster/remake.
Not that I'm complaining if it IS 3+4. Just a bit of odd wording. I love these games, and I hope we eventually get a THUG1+2 compilation. The new blood needs to learn just how much Eric Sparrow sucks.
...huh?? With Bleeding Edge? Can someone pinch me? We're living in a timeline where that game may actually come back?? As someone who loves that game this is so bizarre to read.
I really enjoyed Tactics, it's the Gears game I've enjoyed most since Microsoft bought the rights. I'd 100% love another. Even if they just want to do a re-imagining of the original trilogy in the Tactics style, I'd play it.
@Feffster As long as they don't try to triple down on confusing naming conventions, I'll take it. Just no more consoles with S/X names. Even though Xbox Prime kinda sounds silly, if that's the real name... I'll take it.
@Utena-mobile My brain is basically bubblegum and paperclips cobbled together so these games will be the death of me... but I'm still excited to try them... even if I really, really suck at games requiring me to use my brain.
This isn't a surprise considering the statements over the last few years. The real concern is what's next after this future console.
My biggest concern with it is the naming. I'm truly shocked how they quadrupled down on terrible naming conventions. They named the damn console after units already out...
Xbox One S, One X
Xbox Series S|X
Genius. Just please go with something else, this was a naming fumble on the tier of Wii U.
I'm honestly surprised by the amount of enviornment interactivity. I guess I was just thinking this would be like Skyrim with only really being able to awkwardly jump and sidle around things by abusing physics.
While I am disappointed it is light on plot considering what it's based upon, I'm glad the gameplay at least is stellar. Just a lot of surprises washed over me while reading this review!
Xbox themselves will be fine, or mostly fine, if they just turn into a 3rd party publisher. ...Cue the broken record talking about the console, etcetcetc. I think Gamepass will die at that stage, though, unless it actually does take off on mobile which would be a shock.
@Techno92LFC Yeah, HiRez are in a bad way. Just not bothering anymore, it guts me because I adore RR. Can't tell you how hyped I was for Reforged. Realm deserves way better than HiRez.
@Tasuki I do want to say it's not just one game, this comes after multiple of their big exclusives like the one-time Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves. And Forza is one of the 'big 3' that define what Xbox is. I don't count Indiana Jones since I do think any of the publishers they bought should stay third party (which includes Starfield and Redfall though we know that last one won't get ported)
@Kaloudz See I just can't imagine what a process is going to be, then. Their end goal is cloud streaming, so how can that work? They're not going to give it away free. Maybe downloadable emulators on other systems tied to your Xbox account? But that's a big if, if they can even get something like that running on other platforms. OR if the other platforms even allow it. (I know this is one of probably a dozen potential ideas, I just can't imagine what other option there could be.)
We know rivals won't accept Gamepass on their consoles, and I'm personally skeptical of Gamepass taking off on mobile because those are not the kind of games that rule phones.
I know I've come off grumpy in these replies but it is from a place of concern for Xbox/the gaming landscape in general.

@Techno92LFC Yeah, HiRez are in a bad way. Just not bothering anymore, it guts me because I adore RR. Can't tell you how hyped I was for Reforged. Realm deserves way better than HiRez.
Re: Forza Horizon 5 Officially Announced For PS5, Drifts Over In Spring 2025
@Tasuki I do want to say it's not just one game, this comes after multiple of their big exclusives like the one-time Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves. And Forza is one of the 'big 3' that define what Xbox is. I don't count Indiana Jones since I do think any of the publishers they bought should stay third party (which includes Starfield and Redfall though we know that last one won't get ported)
Re: Forza Horizon 5 Officially Announced For PS5, Drifts Over In Spring 2025
