Re: Xbox Execs Respond To 'Stunning' Forza Motorsport Fan Clips

Eejay

I'm enjoying this immensely so far. Just playing on pad, but it feels great to me. I am tempted by a wheel, but already have a pretty permanent set up with a velocity one flight yoke for flight sim, and it'd be a faf to swap over all the time.

As far as graphics go, it's impressive, but has its limits. I was playing about with the photo mode last night in the various modes and found that the ray tracing is definitely higher resolution and detail in fidelity mode, but at the cost of (an admittedly quite smooth looking) 30fps.

One thing I did spot is that some distant elements of the reflections - I suppose the cube map, are copied from the players car onto all the other cars, but closer reflections are ray traced. Interesting technology behind our games these days.

Re: Bethesda Is Looking Into 'Issues' With HDR Support In Starfield

Eejay

This isn't helped by the weird colour filters that the game uses. Blacks, aside from being grey, often have a green tinge to them that you can see changing as you walk from location to location.

I watched a YouTube video last night on recommend PC mods, and the guy's number one pick was a mod that removes this - the image looked so much better.

That being said, it's all moot on my crappy Hisense 50". It does HDR but not really, and the cheap led's are slowly turning blue, so everything has a slightly purple tinge in certain lighting conditions. 😔

Re: Talking Point: What Are Your Earliest Xbox Memories?

Eejay

I bought the Original Xbox around 2003 I think. What I remember is it dropping off my Son's pram seconds after leaving Game. It made an almighty bang as it hit the ground in the shopping centre, and I thought I'd knackered it before I'd got it home.
Was all good though, and my Son is now a bigger xbox fan than me (He bought the One and One X while I jumped ship for PS4/Pro - both have Series Xs now).

...Still have no clue why I thought it was a good Idea to balance the OG Box above my baby Son though - Dad of the year right there.😂

Re: Talking Point: What Was The Best Surprise Of This Year's Xbox Summer Showcases?

Eejay

Flight Simulator 2024. Came out of nowhere for me, and as a Gamepass using Series X owner, I'm really looking forward to it.
Unfortunately, the same can't be said for a fair number over on the official forums, which have turned into a bit of a s**tshow.
The main argument seems to be that MS/Asobo promised a 10 year plan for FS2020 on PC, and are now moving on to a new, paid, sim without including promised features or fixing long-standing bugs.
Also, the 'missions' shown in the FS2024 trailer have been seen by many as 'gamifying' the sim, and there's quite a bit of anti-xbox sentiment going about again.

Re: Hogwarts Legacy Xbox One Version Delayed, Again

Eejay

@ActionPanther I'm not so sure, unfortunately. Over on Reddit I made a comment similar to yours on a game coming in 2024 to Xbox one.
Interestingly, the consensus seemed to be I should sit down and shut up, as xbox is now a series, hence the name.
That said, I'll look forward to playing the latest titles on my venerable series x in 2033, but personally I feel it's time to cut the strings.

Re: Talking Point: What's The Most Underrated Xbox Game Of 2022?

Eejay

@Nintendo4Sonic Welcome back! You seem to have picked a good time to jump on board - a few belters from the last couple of years to catch up on (although you could argue, fairly imho, not quite enough) and the promise of great things to come in '23.

I would recommend taking a look at flight sim if you at all think it might be your thing. I'm obviously biased as I moved to Series X from PlayStation purely for it, and am now sitting on 1020 hrs played and a full yoke/hotas/pedal set up that cost more than the xbox did, but if it clicks for you, there's nothing else like it.

Re: Talking Point: Did The Series X|S Bring You Back To Xbox? If So, How Come?

Eejay

The Series X brought me back after to xbox for the first time since 360 - I had PS4/Pro before that.
I switched purely for Flight Simulator, which I used to play on PC back in the old days.
Very glad that I did, and have put in many, many hours in Flight Sim. I am eager to see some more 'next gen' games though, and am looking forward to what Unreal 5 and FSR will bring.

Re: Soapbox: Thief Deserves Another Reboot On Xbox Series X|S

Eejay

I'd love some more Thief. I've played them since the PC days but, like many, was a bit disappointed with the reboot. I think Deadly Shadows was my favourite - the Shalebridge Cradle mission was fantastic.
I've always thought the City itself, and its lore and atmosphere was the best element of the games and I'd love to see what's possible in UE5 with Nanite and Lumen - it really could be something special.
