Update (Mon 11th Dec, 2023): Well, we definitely won't be seeing an Xbox release for The Day Before! Developer Fntastic has announced that due to the game "failing financially", the studio is shutting down as of today.

You can check out the full statement from the Fntastic team down below:

"Today, we announce the closure of Fntastic studio. Unfortunately, The Day Before has failed financially, and we lack the funds to continue. All income received is being used to pay off debts to our partners."

Original story (Fri 8th Dec, 2023): Years after it was first unveiled, The Day Before has officially entered Steam Early Access, and it's safe to say that players aren't particularly happy with what's described as a "post-apocalyptic open-world MMO" by developer FNTASTIC.

After its first day on the market, The Day Before currently has an 'Overwhelmingly Negative' user rating on Steam, with just 16% positive reviews at the of writing. We haven't tested the game out ourselves just yet, but PC users are claiming that the game isn't really an open world MMO at all.

Take a look at one of the top reviews, for instance. The Steam page's 'most helpful' review claims that this is basically a small-scale extraction shooter with zombies in it, rather than an open world undead-filled MMO as promised. Here's a chunk of that review:

"This is not a Open World MMO, This Is a small area extraction shooter.

The city is dead and there are barley any open buildings. There are no survival elements in the game because its based on being a extraction based shooter game like tarkov. Shame the game could have been the next day z. I would not recommend buying this game. Most of the city isn't open anyways."

Another user review claims "this game is a scam", noting that The Day Before has no survival elements, a lack of any sort of progression system, and frequent bugs and crashes have cropped up since they started playing. Both users have about an hour of playtime logged, and there are hundreds of reviews of a similar nature.

As far as we know this game is still planned for Xbox Series X and S at some stage - supposedly when The Day Before leaves early access and hits its 1.0 release. We're not holding out hope though, we just can't see this one ever making it to console to be honest!
