Re: The New Skate Is Getting All Sorts Of 'Mixed' Impressions So Far

-taco

My opinion as a major Skate series fan.

The one thing I like about it is the controls, although there's many missing tricks and the grinding is insanely magnatised as if this was a Tony Hawks game.

My immediate reaction to playing the closed beta and now the early access was that it looks visually off. It doesn't look like Fortnite, it looks like the Sims on skateboards
The music choices are bad IMO. It lacks a sound track anywhere near Tony Hawks or other Skate games.
The lack of story and missions is super disappointing. The only challenges you can do feel too similar which gets boring, and to level up, you need to repeat the same challenges over and over.
I'm not a fan of F2P but i understand the need for microtransactions, but at least make the stuff you can unlock for free actually worth grinding for.
I understand no Hall Of Meat since they arent using Thrasher (or Skateboard Mag), but the game lacks any form of injury. They could've made it and not called it Hall Of Meat, but there is just no damage in this new Skate universe.

I miss the old Skate games where you could pick your sponsors, earn money and go to a skate shop in the game and purchase clothes or skate parts and have actual pros to do challenges for.

It lacks 90% of what made Skate feel like Skate. Other than the flick it controls, it doesn't feel like a Skate game

Re: EA's Skate Reboot Is Officially Releasing For Free On Xbox This September

-taco

I’ve spent a few hours messing around with the early access, and while I’ve got to say the controls feel really smooth, I’m just not into the art style. It kind of feels like The Sims on a skateboard, which isn’t what I was hoping for.
The fact theres no dedicated story mode, no pro skaters and no single player really makes it hard to stay interested for more than a couple hours. The challenges seem very repetitive and arent enjoyable enough to keep doing more over and over. They say they listened to the fans and feedback, but the product they created does not feel that way at all.

I hate to say it but despite being a F2P game, it really feels like a money grab toward young adults like myself who have the nostalgia of old skate games, as well as toward young teenagers who love to spend money on microtransactions (one microtransaction was a Grim Reaper character, not even skate related).

From someone who grew up playing TH and put hundreds of hours into all 3 previous Skate games, I dont think i'll play this.

Re: Xbox Vet Rod Fergusson Has Been Drafted In To Help Launch BioShock 4

-taco

@nomither6 I played the Bioshock series for the first time in 2022. I loved the first game, liked the second game but put the third one down within an hour. I eventually finished it a few years later, but i agree to just play the first game. The others are good, but not Bioshock 1 good. Judas looks interesting though

Re: Talking Point: What Are Your First Impressions Of Grounded 2 On Xbox Game Pass?

-taco

Absolutely loving it so far besides all the bugs (get it?). A lot of crashing on PC and Xbox but looking at their website, they are working on a fix. Feels easier than Grounded 1 so far but still so much fun. Definitely scratching the itch I had after beating the first game.
Really hoping our save wont be erased by the time achievements or an update gets released

Re: All Of Destiny 2's Expansions Are Free On Xbox For The Next Few Weeks

-taco

How do you access these for free? I'm not a fan of Destiny 2 but may consider playing since they're all free for a limited time.

DLC's are still showing normal prices on the Xbox/Steam store. Do you just need to download the base game and you're able to access the campaigns in the game with no paywall?

Re: Perfect Dark Developer Responds To 'Big Controversy' Over 2024 Gameplay Trailer

-taco

@smoreon That’s exactly how I believe this was created.

I don’t think it’s an uncommon thing to do. So long as they actually plan to release what they’re showing, I don’t personally think this is as bad as people make it out to be. Theyre showcasing what their game will be (or would’ve been).
Should they be more transparent? Maybe, but it doesn’t really bother me.

I haven’t kept close tabs on this game reveal so someone correct me if I’m missing why this is so terrible

Re: Remedy 'Hoped' For A Better FBC: Firebreak Launch, But Game Pass Is Helping

-taco

I liked it to begin with, but after a couple levels it felt a little repetitive and redundant. Probably didnt help that I jumped in knowing very little about what he game was meant to be.

I'd like to know how much of the player base has been consistent since release and how many have dipped in and quickly dropped it since its on Gamepass (like i did)

Re: Lots Of Xbox Games Have Quietly Received New 1000G Achievements

-taco

@Elbow I can understand completely the need for a low-stress game to turn the brain off and play. I for sure need them now and again too. For that reason, and if anyone genuinely enjoys these games, I can totally understand.

I'm also not trying to insult anyone who does play these stacks for easy GP, I have friends who do this, I just personally dont see the point. Surely no one is amazed when they see a few hundred thousand GP on someones profile. Especially if majority of their games are these. I feel like these games diminish the meaning of achievements/gamerpoints in the first place. Its no longer an achievement.
If i see someone has 100% countless RPG's for example that actually take a lot of time, i'd be impressed.

Re: Talking Point: Would You Play An Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Remake?

-taco

@Lup I replayed and 100% AC1 a year or so ago, and I gotta admit it holds up just as well as the Ezio Collection remastered games. It still looks great.
Doesn't change the fact i'd also love a full remake of it.

Would I play a Black Flag remake? - Hell yeah
Would I pay full price for a Black Flag remake? - No

Re: GTA 5 Has A Ridiculously Good 'Just For You' Deal On Xbox Right Now

-taco

@Ricky-Spanish You're not wrong about the driving. I did get used to it eventually, but it does feel like you're driving a boat on land. I think if they kept a lot of the GTA IV physics (apart from the driving) in GTA V, it would've been perfect in my opinion. Both are great games though for sure and GTA V definitely has its great points too.
I think every GTA has brought out something new and unique, only to leave it out of the next GTA (e.g. riding bikes, gaining weight/muscle in San Andreas all left out of next instalments).
You're right, looking at what we got from RDR2, the new GTA is bound to be incredible

Re: DayZ Badlands Announced For Xbox, Includes Largest Official Map In DayZ History

-taco

@Kaloudz I can’t recommend this game personally. I’ve tried this with my brother a few years ago. We spent an hour and a half, no exaggeration, trying to find each other in the map (because the game doesn’t spawn you together) before we gave up and quit.. If there was a way to spawn with your co-op friend, I’d try it again out of curiosity.
I’ve heard it’s better on PC with modded servers that add a lot more stuff into the world

Re: Hands On: Not Gonna Lie, I'm Enjoying MindsEye On Xbox Right Now

-taco

@Kaloudz I appreciate the explanation. It’s pretty cool and interesting coming from someone who was in the reviewing industry. And thank you @fraserG for acknowledging it in the article, even though it shouldn’t need to be said.
Hope I didn’t seem like I was accusing you. There was a game a while back and before it was released, it got high reviews from big review companies, but when the game actually released, it was a complete dumpster fire filled with bugs and glitches. So I have always wondered if companies get paid for good reviews ever since. So glad you can clear that up

Re: Hands On: Not Gonna Lie, I'm Enjoying MindsEye On Xbox Right Now

-taco

@Kaloudz as soon as I read the title, my first thought was that he had been paid so I’m glad he cleared it up haha.
When you say you used to get that a lot, were you a reviewer?

I used to listen to game review podcasts when I would drive hours for work and a lot of times I could be highly suspicious they were paid to hype the games

Re: Xbox Is An Official Partner For Next Week's Summer Game Fest 2025

-taco

@Kaloudz what on earth haha. I most likely saw it, but didn’t take enough notice to realise or remember. It looks so obvious in that image though. I think I need to replay it and keep an eye out this time. With the new game announcements, I don’t know when I’ll find time though haha

Re: Call Of Duty Goes Co-Op With Black Ops 7, Coming To Xbox Game Pass This Year

-taco

@Lrapsody That’s what I’m saying! I thought Microsoft was going to wait a few years in between COD games but I guess not. Like @edgarthebug said, they need to shelf the Call Of Duty series for a while. At least let people enjoy the previous entry first.

I’m more of a MW campaign fan than BO and not really a fan of futuristic games, so this trailer done nothing for me. Weirdly the only thing making me slightly want to play this IS the co-op.

Re: Grounded 2 Is Coming To Xbox, And Sooner Than You Might Think

-taco

Holy ****!! I was just talking to my girlfriend about how I couldn’t see them ever making Grounded 2! I’ve never been to glad to be wrong.
This will be a day one play for me. I’ve been dying for another Grounded game since getting 100% with my brother and girlfriend. I even bought the physical copy from LGR. I love this game so much.

Re: Xbox Is An Official Partner For Next Week's Summer Game Fest 2025

-taco

@Kaloudz I didn’t realise there was six or seven! I’m surprised you didn’t run into more than one.
Have you seen the animated movies? I think it’s Damnation which has a handful of tyrants in the same location. I enjoyed the animated movies. They’re a lot better than the live action stuff they’ve created so far

Re: Xbox Is An Official Partner For Next Week's Summer Game Fest 2025

-taco

@Kaloudz I agree. Running to a safe room was an easy way to catch your breath and plan your next move. I really didn’t like how he would just linger outside. I’d save, and I’d feel stuck in there because he wouldn’t leave and would stand right by the door. I don’t know if it was a bug or if it was planned to be like that. Watching him poke his head inside before closing the door made me laugh the first time I saw it though haha.
