It's been a couple of days now since EA's Skate reboot landed on Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, and the feedback has definitely been "mixed" across basically all platforms (including PS4, PS5 and PC) so far.
Why? Well, the actual skating itself has received positive feedback for the most part, but people are divided about the rest of it - some have criticised the lack of content, while others feel it's lost its roots and become more like Fortnite.
Here are some examples:
It feels like there's a real divide with Skate right now, although some of the clips have certainly been trending on social media this week, and it's led to over two million people already checking out the game since its launch on Tuesday.
So, with that in mind, how are you feeling about the new Skate right now? Are you enjoying what it has to offer, or do you wish it had been more like Skate 3? Let us know down in the poll below, and feel free to elaborate in the comments.

Gave it a try. Once it finished downloading, I booted it up only to find my EA account and password evidently expired. It was too much of a chore to bother recovering the password or making a new account, so I just bailed (pun) and deleted it.
the music is garbage
Looks cool and it’s free to play so going to try this and see what it’s like. Only did play Skate 3 before but I’m surprised this is free to play, So I already expected micro transactions with that being the case.
I just played some Skate 3 on Xbox before I played this and the new one simply feels "off" or wrong in many ways. It completely lacks the atmosphere and feel that the Skate games had, that's for sure, and the art style feels very Sims 4 or Fortnite. I can see how some people could call this soulless because it really does just feel like a generic corporate gaming product in 2025. There is just zero passion or authentic skate culture that can really be felt. The basics are there in terms of the controls and your ability to skate around, but most of the time it simply feels wrong for a Skate game.
I've been playing Session and Skater XL and both of those games really blow this one away when it comes to controls, accuracy, and capturing the feel of skateboarding and skate culture. Especially Session, that's more of a complete game while Skater XL is more dependent on it's community created content.
This new Skate simply doesn't feel like a proper skateboarding game to me. It's more like The Sims Skateboarding or Fortnite Skate. It feels like a product made to be like that, which is made worse by the way everything is either micro-transaction content or some lame slow trickle down of random clothing and stickers.
Only good thing is how this is early access and this might change or improve over time, but for now I am having a hard time seeing myself really putting much time into this beyond checking it out.
I enjoy it. Huge skateboarding fan and the controls are great. Don’t really care that it’s free to play or online only. Been making my own skate parts. I probably prefer skater xl over this but Skate is new and I’ve put in hundreds of hours into skater xl.
Tony hawk Pro Skater I can’t get into anymore. Feels more like a fighting game. I love the flick it controls because it feels like really skating. I tried session a ton and every time it felt different than before. It’s okay but it feels sluggish.
Judging by the initial impressions online, I'd probably rather play THPS 3+4 or Skate 3. I'd try it, but my Xbox is busted.
My opinion as a major Skate series fan.
The one thing I like about it is the controls, although there's many missing tricks and the grinding is insanely magnatised as if this was a Tony Hawks game.
My immediate reaction to playing the closed beta and now the early access was that it looks visually off. It doesn't look like Fortnite, it looks like the Sims on skateboards
The music choices are bad IMO. It lacks a sound track anywhere near Tony Hawks or other Skate games.
The lack of story and missions is super disappointing. The only challenges you can do feel too similar which gets boring, and to level up, you need to repeat the same challenges over and over.
I'm not a fan of F2P but i understand the need for microtransactions, but at least make the stuff you can unlock for free actually worth grinding for.
I understand no Hall Of Meat since they arent using Thrasher (or Skateboard Mag), but the game lacks any form of injury. They could've made it and not called it Hall Of Meat, but there is just no damage in this new Skate universe.
I miss the old Skate games where you could pick your sponsors, earn money and go to a skate shop in the game and purchase clothes or skate parts and have actual pros to do challenges for.
It lacks 90% of what made Skate feel like Skate. Other than the flick it controls, it doesn't feel like a Skate game
I've resolved to wait. It looks unfinished. Maybe it will always be unfinished. But I want more before I commit.
The divide will be between gamers and skaters. The gamers will hate it (because thats what gamers do) the skaters will love it because you can spend hours on a single ledge simply enjoying the skating.
I'm the latter, the game is mint 👌
@LocalPenguin Yikes, if they're counting on skaters loving this game, they really screwed up. Just about every decision they made with this game feels like it was done to appeal to the average normie audience over skaters. I think that's why it feels so "Fortnite" despite having more of a Sims aesthetic, it has that made to please everyone look and feel. I think a lot of skaters would be put off by the lack of authenticity here. This game feels like what most skaters would call a poser.
@JayJ Agreed
