Stalker 2 Is Getting An Engine Overhaul This Year On Xbox Game Pass

Stalker 2 maker GSC Game World has shared its development roadmap for the remainder of 2025, and the team has plenty of updates planned for Q3 and Q4. Among those updates is an engine overhaul set to bring "new features and tools to make the Zone an even better place" later in the year.

That overhaul comes in the form of an upgrade to 'Unreal Engine 5.5.4', which alongside new features and tools will also bring "the latest optimizations" for "better stability and performance". This sounds like good news, given that Stalker 2 had a bit of a rough start to life on Xbox Game Pass last year.

It's worth mentioning that while GSC Game World is planning all of these updates to land this year, the team's latest blog post does mention that this engine overhaul may push certain things into 2026. Here's what the studio says about its release schedule:

"This [engine upgrade] could shake up the timing of other updates. We’re taking this risk — like true stalkers would — and will do our best to hit our 2025 goals. Stick with us on this journey and keep an eye out for upcoming news, including bigger and exciting ones. Yep, that news, too!"
