@PlatinumMikey I just checked my top 100 games. Xbox - 14, Nintendo - 17, Sony - 10, next highest publisher Devolver - 6. Xbox definitely has games. They just have a smaller install base so they don’t have as many console warriors staning for those games.
Also so as not to make this about my opinions. For the entirety of this generation Xbox has released more games than Sony and those games have a higher average score on open critic.
@abe_hikura That type of calculation does not make sense for inessential goods. People are spending so much more on essential goods that discretionary budgets have all but disappeared. This is an insane time for these companies selling inessential goods to be raising prices. They might make a little more now but it will further erode the video games market by excluding millions of players. The console market is already contracting rapidly and this will accelerate that trend making gaming a less profitable business. All these corporations cant ever think any more long term than their next quarterly report.
Also you really shouldn't call what happened over the last five years inflation. It is verifiable corporate greed. Their finances are publicly available and show this clearly.
@carlos82 It definitely costs them less to make these consoles now then when they were released. This has nothing to do with costs and everything to do with greed.
This from a company that several times over the past year cried poverty as they laid off thousands of employees and killed studios. Never believe these companies when they cry poverty.
@acmiguens I think the Switch 2 is going to help the S. It just makes economic sense for the majority of developers to target the Switch 2 specs rather than Series X and PS5. As result there will be less games that are speced above the Series S capabilities.
I’m still very excited for it but the concerns here about the new slower play style being innovation for innovation’s sake fit with the concerns I had after watching the trailers. I love the speed of Eternal.
@Foxx_64740 I thought I was crazy for trying to knock out two games. NMH3 is a lot better than I expected. Weird AF but in an interesting way and the combat is good enough.
@RiverGenie I appreciate your letting me know but even the hint system would annoy me and make me feel inpatient. I am the type of gamer who used guides to make Elden Ring linear. I prefer to go from objective to objective even if I can see how figuring it out in a game like this is probably incredibly satisfying. I wish I had the patience.
The previews confirmed for me that I would hate playing this game but I still have so much lingering FOMO. I think it’s going to be great for people who want a less guided experience.
I don’t care about multiplayer but it NEEDS coop or I have zero interest. Gears to me is first and foremost a coop game. Playing through with my wife is peak gaming for me.
@Ilyn I thought Wolong was so much better than the Nioh games. The refinements to looting and upgrading alone makes it better but I also thought the switch to a more dynamic parry based combat system was a major improvement.
@Ralizah for this generation Xbox games have a higher average review score the Sony published games. And that’s in spite Xbox games having twice as many weirdly low outlier scores that are way lower than the general consensus meta score.
@Jonnyfalcon I had the time today and I am petty so I decided to back my assertion up with data.
I looked at all the new games published by both Sony and Microsoft this generation where the game scored a meta rating of at least 80. Based on the data, Microsoft games are twice as likely to have outlier scores that fall more than 20% below the metascore. This data covers thousands of review scores so it is statistically significant.
My initial statement that Microsoft games receive a weird number of outlier low scores is correct and factually true.
@IronMan30 Yes, I own all three consoles and a steam deck, plus I am just obsessed with gaming so I follow all the major publishers and the mid sized publishers and the obscure publishers.
@Jonnyfalcon Dude your whole comment history on this website is basically “actually this popular Xbox product does deserve its outlier low review scores” so I’m going to ahead and say this a topic you're clearly biased about.
I'm not normally a person who believes in the xbox tax on reviews but it's weird that there are always some stray 60s pulling down xbox games. It never seems to happen to big games from other publishers that otherwise reviewed very well.
I’m super excited for Dark Ages. It looks bad ass but I am skeptical about it surpassing Eternal. It seems like they put an emphasis on dumbing down the controls but I enjoyed the mechanical complexity of Eternal and that the level design required you to learn and utilize your full kit in higher difficulties.
@PsBoxSwitchOwner Your thesis PS is more likely to work with Nintendo doesn’t make sense with your first argument that the Series S being weaker makes it difficult to work with MS.
Eternal Strands is the perfect GP game for me. It is not a game I would buy but one I am super excited to try day one as a part of GP. It looks interesting and potentially really good.
@Fiendish-Beaver I’m not against buying games. I’m not sure where you got that idea. I buy games. That’s doesn’t mean GP is not an amazing deal that’s silly to pass up on if you own an Xbox and play a lot of games. Just in that list you posted I can see enough GP games that you could have instead paid for a whole year of GP and still have money left over to buy those games in a year when they are on sale. So by utilizing GP you could have played all those same games, owned all those games, saved money, and had access to hundreds of other games.
@Balaam_ Xbox sent out lifetime GP stats so I did the math. I have spent $0.32/hour of gaming on GP and have paid less than $4 per a game. You could not be more wrong about GP.
@Feffster It's not surprising to see this happen here again. This website used to have a great community but it's grown toxic due to poor moderation. Seeing a staff member participate in making this conversation toxic feels completely in line with the overall quality of moderation and general tone of the comments section here. I hope they can get it under control.
These sales blow. There are only a few things on my wish list that are on sale and they are priced at the exact same prices they were last time they went on sale.
@MeanBeanEgg I just played Ghostwire and while it was only a good 7/10 game, it had very impressive tech. Plus Hi-Fi was so much fun with an IP that could definitely make a lot of money off tv/movies. Why on earth would you close that studio only to acquire more studios?
I used to do AAA on Xbox and indie on switch but lately even indie games run like ***** on switch so I only use the switch for Nintendo exclusives. Whenever switch 2 drops I will start buying indies on it again.
@FraserG I don’t think anything is report worthy. Most of the anti-DEI crowd knows how to avoid stepping over the line with overt racism and sexism. But over the last year or so the comments section on this website are increasingly filled with people stepping right up to the line. It’s made me less apt to engage here. It’s a bummer because this was one of the least toxic gaming communities when I started frequenting this site.
@fraserg the comments sections on this website are increasingly becoming a haven for weirdos. You need better moderating or the normal people will stop engaging.

Re: Talking Point: What's The Best Game You've Played In 2025 So Far?
It's a tie between Avowed and Lonely Mountains Snow Riders. Both are on GP. I love GP.
Re: Xbox Is Putting A Lot Of Confidence In The Outer Worlds 2 This Summer
I enjoyed the first game a lot but was not too hyped for the sequel initially. However, after playing Avowed my excitement is now out of this worlds.

They didn’t cancel the DLC. They just decided to pretend they did so they can sell at as a $70 game.
Re: Talking Point: Could Sony 'Block' PlayStation Games On An Xbox Handheld?
My guess is they put out a statement saying they are going to fight this and then just quietly enjoy the increased sales.
Re: Pick One: If Xbox Acquired One Ubisoft IP, Which Should It Be?
Prince of Persia and then just keeping making 2D metroidvanias.

I really hope so. I have a PS5 but have a strong preference for my Series X. The controller and quick resume on Xbox are very important to me.

Doom Eternal is one of my favorite games ever. I’m so excited for Dark Ages.

I feel like Microsoft lied to federal regulators and screwed over gamers and thousands of developers at Activision.
