I've got a huge amount of love for immortality and tunic. Both games that are so smart, they make my brain melt. There were some games that were truly some dumb fun that I enjoyed too! Only played a couple of hours of tinykin (3d platformer collectathon where you collect pikmin like things to unlock new places) and midnight fight express (isometric beat em up that's just brutal fun). Both are great though

Yep, best thing I ever did was get gamepass. There are so many indie games I would not have played but try with gamepass and end up loving. Removing the barrier to trying these games and letting me play tunic, immortality, weird west, pentiment and citizen sleeper is brilliant. The interesting thing for me is, in a year when microsoft has banger games coming out, is the indie/3rd party support as strong? I hope so, if they keep the indie offering as good as it has been and add some AAA 1st party stuff then there is no denying it's the best deal in gaming.

Elden ring isn't just game of the year, it's the best game in years! Well deserved. Not going to lie, surprised none of tunic, immortality or pentiment make the list. All amazing day one indies and if folks haven't tried them, they are well worth checking out.

One of my all time favourite games with perhaps one of the best end "levels/sequences" of all time. Not for everyone but if it clicks, it's the best. Try before it leaves!

To be honest, the best bit about gamepass ultimate is the wide variety of indies. If I didn't have access to them would I subscribe to this, hard no.

I'm going to have to get a move on in echoes of the eye, my own fault for buying dlc without buying the main game.

I've got the worst hangover but trying to ease some of it with some games and crimbo movies with the family. Tried some high on life earlier and while some of the humour hasn't hit, some has. It looks pretty incredible though, I'm surprised at the quality of the graphic. Hoping to play a bit more stray later too and though the world is interesting and the cat is cute, it has never really grabbed me. I've traded in a few games and have 50 quid in CEX vouchers and am trying to decide between sekiro (love souls games but have always been unsure as this game seems harder than any other souls game) and xenoblade chronicles 3 (last jrpg I played was nier automata) as I've heard nothing but good things about the story.

For this game, given its inclusion on gamepass, reviews genuinely don't matter. A decent percentage of subscribers are going to give this a chance to see if the humour hits for them as games going full comedyroute is pretty rare. I won't lie, I'm not sure a gun giving it the full "aww jeez, we really shot all those guys, they are dead, aren't they? Think they had families" routine is for me but I'm going to get faded and try!

It's not a game I associate with the 360 as it was released in 2015 but is there an argument for phantom pain being on this list??

Good reminder I need to finish echoes of the eye dlc for outer wilds. If anyone hasn't played the base game, give it a whirl! Amazing game

I've been playing some pentiment and some stray. I've been enjoying both and think I'm close to wrapping both up but not sure what I'm going to dip into next. I've downloaded FF7 intergrade, ghost of tsushima directors cut to check out the dlc and need for speed unbound to check out the 10 hr trial on EA. Don't know what I'll check out next though. Have a good weekend folks

@grumpypotato grear, there is no timing component for any of the dialogue choices so it works great on touch

Really solid Gamepass additions there! Have played a bit of lego star wars on switch but looking forward to checking it out at 60 fps.

@FraserG I just got an email from microsoft refunding my purchase for this without any request from me to do this. I wonder if others are in the same boat? Just tried to access the lego dlc having already played a bit and couldn't.

I think its elden ring but tunic and immortality both are also incredible games and amazing adverts for gamepass

@UltimateOtaku91 can't comment on the performance on series s but the the game has some jank still in it when I played on series x. There are things that will never be fixed in it like enemy ai or driving. Having said that, I really enjoyed the main quest, many of the side jobs (didn't do too many gigs as there is less story with those) and the feel of night city. Even though the driving isn't great, driving round night city just oozes atmosphere. Worth a look if your a fan of rpgs.

I've been a big fan of the boost mode to improve older games and auto hdr. I love me some day 1 releases for indies, the quality of indie release and xcloud on gamepass so I can play when I can't get the tv. I'd love some more 1st party stuff though, it's been pretty dry this year unfortunately.

It's the absolute perfect podcast game! I love to play a run or 2 after work when your just to knackered to play anything else. Garlic is life! Great review Liam

Did they do anything with the visuals? If memory serves me, the ps5 performance mode output at 1080p.

@themightyant I've meant to try it for ages but never got round to it guess I've got an incentive now! I've also been hoping to play plague tale before the sequel but I'm lucky in that got given away with ps plus some time ago.

Fantastic review PJ, hope the controls translate to touchscreen well as it sounds like a game i might want to play on phone also. I don't know if you watched archive 81 on Netflix (or listened to the original podcast) but reading the review gave me the same vibes. Will check it out!

8/10 for me, hac some cracking fun playing local coop with a mate. Art style and the chaos on screen are a lot of fun, well worth checking out

As someone with both systems, I've only really noticed vrr in two games: flight simulator on series x and elden ring on ps5. Switching it on for ps5 elden ring, even though its not on the supported list, has made a BIG difference for me. Dips below mid 40s aren't too common on performance mode. I think the xbox killer app for display has been auto hdr for games that dont have it. Playing outer wilds and looking down on timberhearth whilst you fly into space in hdr was so good!!

I use this a fair bit and have been pleasantly surprised! Perfect for games not relying on fast responses. It's not something I would try for a multiplayer title

I've only played chapter 1 of Guardians and it's fun but tunic easily for me! So far, tunic is right up there with elden ring as a game of the year contender.

I'm only a couple of hours in to elden ring so it's too early to say, though the open world discovery component is pretty awesome thus far. Its bloodborne for me, the rally mechanic is awesome, forces you to get all up in folks face and the lovecraftian world is so freaky!

A new Tony Hawk please! It's great that there are all these ip that might get a chance to be reinvigorated but hopefully some of these studios get released from the COD grind and get the chance to have a crack at a new ip

I voted for one, it might have some of the best dialogue in any game and that final citadel mission is chef kiss perfect.

Gorogoa is worth a try, I played on android and if its on xcloud with touch controls, I would suggest playing on a phone. Beautiful art style and interesting puzzles.

Halo infinite and I'm surprised to say it as someone who is normally a single player gamer, for the multi player mainly. I've started the single player and have mucked about in the open world and it's great fun but the chaos in fiesta or big team battle is brilliant. Psychonauts 2 is a joy and I liked forza horizon 5, it's great to throw on every now and then and do some campaign. Hell of a year

For me, although not all have been played on series x my list would be:
1 psychonauts 2
2 Hades
3 Forza horizon 5
4 control ultimate edition
5 halo infinite (only just reached the open world though so may go up, on here for its mp).

In a supposedly quiet game for years, i've also played metroid dread and still have to play hitman 3, returnal whilst also finishing ratchet and clank and incryption before taking into account games I don't even own yet, like death door, resi 8 or deathloop. It's just an amazing time to be a gamer

Did a patch break it after launch? I played a fair bit of offline at launch and couldn't believe how well it performed from launch. Not one issue nut have seen more and more stories about issues

I voted for fh4. 4 was my first forza game, I hadn't played a horizon or motorsport game before and it was my first racing game since gran turismo 2! I was blown away not just at how far things had come but how fun fh4 was. The stunt driver, top gear and exhibition races blew my mind! Added to the fact that I'm Scottish and seeing Edinburgh and surrounding country in a video game was special. Normally when Scotland is represented in media its gritty crime/deprivation or someone needed a voice actor for a dwarf in a fantasy game! I'm loving 5 too and the diversity of the biomes is great.

I can confirm this checks out, I caved and bought a copy today for the coming next gen update so of course it comes to gamepass 😬
