Today's the day for the ROG Xbox Ally X20! This is the new version of the ROG Xbox Ally X with a bigger OLED screen along with various other new features, all of which we covered in more detail when the system was first announced:

To mark the handheld's release date, we've got lots of official reviews that are flooding in for the ROG Xbox Ally X20 across various platforms. Some of them are available in written form, while others are focused on video alone.

These are sure to keep appearing as the day and week goes on, so we may add a few more quotes down below when we get them. For now though, here's a sample of what we've found when it comes to ROG Xbox Ally X20 reviews:

Dexerto (5/5)

"Its stunning OLED display, upgraded controls, and powerful hardware deliver a premium gaming experience, while Windows 11 provides the flexibility to play games across multiple storefronts. At $1,299.99, it’s expensive, especially considering the processor hasn’t changed. Still, the improved display, controls, and overall experience make the premium easier to swallow. The ROG Xbox Ally X20 sets the standard for handheld PC gaming. If you want the best, this is it."

CGM (8.5/10)

"A performance powerhouse, the ROG XBOX Ally X20 bundle is a beauty to behold. Just make sure you are ready to invest because the cost of entry is high."

CNET (8.3/10)

"The updated version of the OG Microsoft-sanctioned Windows gaming handheld, the Asus ROG Xbox Ally X, hits a lot of high points for the category, combining the comfortable controls and layout of the original with a great new OLED display. But while I really like it, the ROG Xbox Ally X20 falls short of having it all — just like all the Windows handhelds."

PC Gamer (80/100)

"Asus' 20th anniversary edition of the Xbox ROG Ally X is as bougie as the $300 price bump implies. Its additions are very welcome, but that's a lot of cash for a familiar package."

The Independent (4/5)

"It’s a really good looking system, the OLED screen is magnificent and there are a lot of small but key quality of life updates when compared to the ROG Xbox Ally X. However it’s hard to look past just how insanely expensive this device is, and the battery life is still not the greatest truth be told."

PCMagUK (3.5/5)

"A celebration of the ROG brand, the Asus ROG Xbox Ally X20 is a cool collector's item, with a great new OLED screen and an eye-catching design. However, with performance that's about the same as last year's Xbox Ally X, it's a hard sell at $1,299."

Tom's Guide (3.5/5)

"The ROG Xbox Ally X20 is undeniably a better piece of hardware than its predecessor, boasting a stellar OLED screen and superior ergonomics. But an eye-watering $1,299 price tag turns what should be a mainstream handheld into a luxury gamble."

BGR (No Score)

"The Ally X20 improves the parts of a handheld that you interact with constantly: The screen, grips, and controls. Those changes deserve more credit than a new color scheme alone, and the OLED gives me something additional to appreciate. However, at $1,300, the Ally X20 sets a high bar. Last year's Xbox Ally had the same processor, RAM, capacity, storage, and battery for $300 less. While the X20 looks more appealing, it's tough to recommend if you already own an Ally X."

As you can see, there's very much a general consensus here that the ROG Xbox Ally 20 is a fantastic PC handheld in terms of how it performs, but it's also very expensive.

We already knew that it was a "hard sell" for the wider majority, but it's reassuring to know that it's lived up to expectations for those who are keen to pick one up for themselves.
