Consoles will always have a place for budget gamers and families that don't wanna deal with PC gaming's learning curve to get going. "Buy $500 box then games" is still easy enough. I got a gaming PC end of last year but still mostly on Xbox and Switch 2 where I have my friends online and couch coop games.
I think they really thought they would be the Netflix of games which was a foolish idea imo from the start. Too much hype trying to get it on every device.
Now personal view time: Streaming entertainment and games are completely different models and Xbox serves a very niche set of hardcore gamers that have loved their franchises for decades.
Poor Marketing & comms Team internal calendars being ruined by impatient fans, I feel for them. Not every company has the same comms or launch strategy, all in good time
@Globo check out the Evercade VS system as well, it's around a hundred bucks and you can get bundles with extra games or controllers on Funstock sometimes or during their sales. All the carts are swappable & have booklets and carts in every case. They feel slightly cheap and small but for $20-30 a cart to own the games forever is a good deal
Bruh Xbox should hire Andrew Byatt, guy has done such a great job listening to gamers and giving them what they want. I have a couple of Evercade consoles now and a ton of carts. Love it.
@Exerion76 this is a fair point, I think I'd not be able to beat my entire back catalogue in my life at this point π it's like I've made a game of purchasing desired games
Xbox should hire Reggie Fils Aime as their Xbox CEO. Bringing in Instacart and Meta with no game industry experience? I wonder what nepotism is behind this hire from CoreAI and someone new to the company no less.
She hasn't event beaten Halo 1 on Legendary! Nerd statement The AI in the first two games was light-years ahead and still holds a candle to a lot of modern games. Nintendo Life said it best. Xbox keeps stepping on rake after rake π
Microsoft needs to bring in artists and serious video game leadership instead of business leaders from wherever in their organization, to lead what is literally some of their most complex software they have at the company. Copilot and their full suite of apps are an absolute hot mess with features on endless features with no real goal in mind for the end user other than, hey try this AI stuff. Sarah a was a Marketing Executive running a gaming division and she treated it like a brand exercise that lost them a ton of console players. Nintendo in less than a year has sold nearly half of the Xbox Series family that took 6 years. Now we have an AI leader and guess what, Copilot isn't going to help her sell 18 million Xboxes in a year. Focus on the fundamentals like Sony, Nintendo and Steam do.
I'm glad she had Copilot generate this generic script for her. Can we please get the Pure Xbox team promos to other sites? Love the writers and community here but unsure how long PX stays around without a serious major boost in Xbox console sales (not MS Game Studios revenue) because where do mobile, tablet, Samsung fridge gamers go for MS Gaming news? Brand is in splinters.
Now they have a chance to totally rebrand and thank the fans as they move to whatever new business model AI and MS has in store for us.
I liked Phil a lot and felt he was stepping away from being a big Xbox advocate the past couple of years. Wishing him luck and a good retirement ahead!
The 2020s have been so rough I don't mind waiting until the 2030s. That should hopefully let them have a ton of games deep into development that we want to buy
Yeah but since everything is an Xbox that actually means hundred million more users π not. Xbox needs to fix it's branding and commitments to players. It'll just be a pivot to Microsoft Gaming Studios soon enough and they will "thank the fans for their loyalty, hope they enjoyed Xbox". I already invested in to the PC world because of their wishy washy Xbox commitments. Will keep my Series X because I love it but more or less done with new Xbox stuff. Love this site too so will keep reading here.
I would buy far more Xbox games physically if they actually made them. It makes sense both Sony and Xbox have higher digital sales as their more common entry level form factors are digital only. I like how Switch is the only console that only has options for both (except for hellish key cards)
This is why Nintendo shows games when they're ready, they learned a lot with Metroid Prime 4 whereas Xbox has made so many promises and then hit the fan with Redfall, cancelled Perfect Dark and will delay this game. I think 3 months to a year is enough time for people to get hyped and you can work with the community on that rather than over promise and retreat later
I hope they simplify their Bluetooth protocol so we get more affordable controller options. My Internet isn't always the best so tying the controller to wifi like Google stadia did is maybe about shortsighted. Hope it can do both along with being wired for worst case scenarios. I picked up the Game sir Pro wireless and absolutely love it so doubt I'll get another Xbox branded controller anytime soon
@themightyant dude I think the best streaming service was Stadia. They had excellent infrastructure and they were running Cyberpunk better on cloud than on downloads on consoles. Shame MSFT or others didn't buy up all that great infrastructure. Google wasn't made to survive in the gaming industry. Otherwise yeah, Microsoft Cloud isn't good for my style of games which I agree with your points full heartedly on.
I've increased my usage of cloud gaming solely to get Microsoft Rewards points which I'm sure a lot of us do. I've had so-so experiences with it because I play a lot of action titles that demand high frame rate and minimal lag so def not for me vs downloaded on the console.
I feel so bad for our lovely PureXbox writers and staff to oversee what's happening with the brand, I still come on here to read regularly but have never been more bitter about the state of Xbox. Buying a lot on Switch 2 and saving up for a lot of PC games. I've made my last Xbox purchases outside of DLC for Hunt
@Ramouz it's the wireless via dongle. Works great. Just have some sync issues with my headset I plug into sometimes so I have to reset it every now and then
@Ramouz it's really good. It has a USB dongle which it wasn't really marketed as having which is lame BUT the gaming experience has been exceptional. Some weird desyncs with my wired headset which means resetting the controller every now and then but still. Zero drift. Super comfortable, best bang for buck
Software is core to what Xbox does because of everything is an Xbox then their ecosystem is important to that. Done with their marketing ploys, just keep giving us good games and stop talking about hardware until it's ready.
I have my ultimate running out in 2 weeks. I picked up 12 months of Xbox Gamepass Core for $60 from Best Buy. That'll start end of November. Have to be careful or else it'll automatically convert to GPU for like 2-3 months
Day one all these games will suffer a bit from AI doing QA, AI can't know that we want to try and ride a chocobo out the back of the mini market closet in the desert
Rockstar has absolutely 100% earned their budget and time. It is not a luxury, they've made highly profitable games and spent a bucket load to make them real. The product speaks for itself. Hard to compare with other devs as each has their own place in the industry as being followers, leaders, copy cats, creative powerhouses and innovators.
Thank God for Rockstar games and Rockstar leadership. They called Gamepass being an issue years ago and are way ahead of the game on AI. I want people making art that understand the human experience and can make PiΓwasser a thing and take true advantage of cultural norms in our godforsaken society. Their writing is PHENOMENAL and their characters timeless.
End of an era, they're clearly lost the console war and they make all their cash and MASSIVE profits with software, they should just become a publisher first and produce hardware second because that is just where they're at. They crush Sony and Nintendo on revenue but still suffer on game quality and studio management in comparison. Yes I know good titles come from them, I've enjoyed them for many years.
