Back on Friday, the folks over at The Wall Street Journal shared a report about new Xbox boss Asha Sharma, describing her as "The Woman Fixing a Microsoft Mess With Brutal Honesty", and getting insights into the kind of person she is.
Most of it is stuff we've already heard before — that she's a hard-worker, that she's intense, that she's been extremely successful in past positions at the likes of Porch and Facebook — and there are even comments in here from people like Bethesda's Todd Howard who describe her as "uniquely effective at cutting through and communicating clearly".
What's probably most interesting for us is the bit at the end, which mentions that Sharma actually spends a few hours per-month replying to Xbox customer support tickets in order to "better understand players".
Here's the direct quote about that:
"To better understand players, she spends a few hours each month responding to customer support tickets, during which she’s learned how complex it can be to fix a single player’s problem."
As you'd perhaps expect, there are already people out there questioning the legitimacy of this quote and whether the whole thing is just a "PR piece", but we doubt they'd throw in such a specific thing like this if there wasn't truth to it.
In fact, Sharma herself apparently has a mantra of "clarity is kindness" at Xbox, and we've certainly seen that during her time in charge - she's been clear about her mission briefings when it comes to big changes such as the "Xbox Reset", and we've also started to see Xbox being praised for their transparency around Xbox Live outages.
There have been big highs and lows during Asha Sharma's reign as head of Xbox so far, but the general consensus on her seems to be positive amongst Xbox fans as things stand, and clearly she's put in a ton of work to get up to speed on the gaming industry in a short space of time. There's a long road ahead - the era of Asha is just getting started!
