Re: Turtle Beach's New Elite-Style Xbox Controller Seems Pretty Incredible

Jacket_p

@InterceptorAlpha Same. One Elite and two Elite 2 controllers. The latter always seemed to have an issue with some button presses not working which was annoying but got one replaced and it's been grand.

Don't mind paying more for a controller if it's worth it to be fair. Might pick one of these up when I get my bonus.

Re: Phil Spencer Issues Statement In Response To Massive Xbox Leak

Christ the console 'wars' are the most tedious thing about modern gaming. It was tiresome when I was a kid and it was Spectrum vs C64/Amstrad or SNES vs Megadrive but it was mostly lighthearted.

It's depressing how ridiculous it's become and how one of my favourite hobbies has attracted some very intolerant, hateful and toxic people.

Just depressing.

Re: Rockstar Announces New $50 Port Of Red Dead Redemption, But Xbox Doesn't Need It

@Dan1283 On systems where you can patch games they always have. PC games have always been this way. There's a good few fan made patches for old games now. This isn't some new thing at all. It's happening on consoles as they release patches and are forced into very quick development cycles.

I remember games on the ZX Spectrum that were released that you couldn't complete due to bugs. Jet Set Willy is a quite famous example. Shame as the first person to complete that was going to win a helicopter ride

Re: The Xbox Live Gold To Game Pass 'Conversion Ratio' Has Gotten Worse

@PsBoxSwitchOwner I live in rural Northumberland and get better internet here than when I lived on a new build estate in the South East. So not sure where this rural people don't have good internet comes from.

I also get 5G a lot of the time up here too.

Rural doesn't mean we're 20 years behind other places. In the UK it's the very select few who don't have good internet access.

Re: Xbox Signs Yet Another 10-Year ActiBlizz Deal, This Time With UK Mobile Network

Jacket_p

@cragis0001 BT doesn't own all the broadband network. There's at least three major providers - virgin, BT and a new fibre network (OFNL). I don't think you've got your facts right all all there.

Business ISPs also have other providers aside form the main three.

Other companies will pay to use those networks (Sky on BT, others on Virgin and a whole raft on the Independent OFNL) and BT certainly doesn't get a cut of all of it. I bought a new build with FTTH and couldn't get any BT packages or companies that use their network as they had zero presence on the estate when it was built and the fibre network wasn't connected to openreach at all; it was entirely separate.

Re: Microsoft Blocks Access To 'Retail Mode' Emulators On Xbox Series X|S

Jacket_p

Millions of gamers chose Xbox for emulation is quite a reach. I think most chose it because of Gamepass.

It's fair enough what MS have done. Goes against their policies and the vast majority will use illegal roms. PC is still the defacto emulation platform if you're serious about it rather than faffing about with the Series X. Or get a Steam deck or pocket retroid or similar.

...which will end up gathering dust once you realise most of those games you loved ain't as good as you thought once the nostalgia wears off.

Re: Reaction: Should Xbox Produce A Mid-Gen Upgrade If Sony Launches 'PS5 Pro'?

Jacket_p

The only reason for an upgrade would be for VR which is still niche and I seriously doubt if it'll ever replace flat screen gaming as the core experience. It's great for certain games, rubbish for most. And it makes a lot of people feel pretty sick. First time I used a VR headset for an FPS it made me feel wrong for a couple of hours afters. Not good when I usually don't suffer with motion sickness.

120fps is a nice but not as game changing as 30 to 60fps. Native 4K or upscaled 8k might be nice but there's nothing yet to really justify an upgrade for flatscreen gaming as early as next year especially as 8k panels might not be in widespread use by then.

Re: Xbox Game Pass Launches Enable 'Secure Success', Says Indie Publisher

Game Pass is great. The biggest problem for years was piracy for most entertainment mediums and we've seen how subscription models seems to sort that out quite nicely

There will always been people that steal stuff because of many concocted self delusional reasons (giving it to the man etc) but in reality they're just cheapskate morons who don't want to pay for stuff.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (January 14-15)

@Mrzoomer I think you might be right on the combat. I also think the chests only containing aesthetic upgrades took any joy out of finding or searching for them. Felt there was a degree of jank with the combat at times which you don't get so much in souls game.

I'll give the new one a go for sure and hopefully it irons some of the problems out.

Fallen Order is such an odd game. I loved the first half, maybe 2/3rds and then it seemed to become insanely boring and I had to force myself to finish it. No idea why. It does from a solid 8/10 maybe pushing a 9 to a 6/10. Maybe less.

I've just finished off Lacuna on the Switch (really good story/adventure game) and just starting Spiritfarer which my wife loved. Such a beautiful game from watching her playing it and looking forward to playing it myself. It has an incredible soundtrack

Re: How Would You Grade The Xbox Series X|S Generation So Far?

Jacket_p

60fps becoming the norm means this generation would get a B. With the work that's gone in on both the PS5 and Xbox to boost existing titles framerates and resolution means it gets an A.

Smart Delivery and Quick Resume are both excellent QoL things that I really miss on the PS5. Brilliant features that most will take for granted now

Re: Poll: What Were The Best Xbox Game Pass Additions In 2022?

Jacket_p

I had an absolute blast with Grounded and sunk loads if time into it. High on Life had been great mindless fun. Persona 5 is the GOAT JRPG. Mass Effect is arguably one of the great game trilogies - I played 3 after it'd been patched and didn't think the ending was as bad as people said.

It's been a damn strong year for Gamepass on reflection

Re: Here Are The Top 10 Xbox Games Of 2022 According To Metacritic

Jacket_p

Elden Ring is most certainly a masterpiece of a game. Just incredible and getting the itch to play through it again.

Persona 5 was one of my favourite games of last year as played it on the PS5. I'd say both are easily in my top 10 games of all time.

This article has reminded me I need to get back to RL2. Loved the first one and the sequel improves it in nearly everyday. Killer soundtrack too.

Re: What's All This About A Cheaper, Ad-Filled Version Of Xbox Game Pass?

Jacket_p

Thinking of advertising in games made me realise it's always been a thing - even back to the 8 bit days! KP Skips had a game on the Spectrum. You also had Marlboro in Pole Position, Midland Bank in Theme Park (I'd forgotten about that one!), 7UP in Cool Spot, Chupa Chups in Zool, Penguin Biscuits in Robocod and probably many more.

Always seemed quite novel and cool back then.

Re: What's All This About A Cheaper, Ad-Filled Version Of Xbox Game Pass?

Jacket_p

While I have no interest in an ad subsidised sub I think that anything that could enable people to afford a service like this in such a way can't be a bad thing. Lowering the barrier to entry to gaming is a good idea and while ads aren't the perfect way it's not a bad way. For parents or people on lower a income it's a great idea especially at a time when people are looking for ways to cut back on their outgoings.
