Rockstar Announces New $50 Port Of Red Dead Redemption, But Xbox Doesn't Need It

Charging $50 on PS and Switch is a sick joke, they deserve better. Rockstar are a shambles and their fall from grace has been spectacular

If you are lucky enough to have a Series X, you can get physical copies of the X360 version even cheaper on the gray market!

I have seen the standard version of the game going for as low as $3.

Dammit, really wanted to play it on the Steam Deck. Skipping a PC release is a genuine e head scratcher

I have the XB360 disc version and although it plays at 4K on Series X it would be great to get a 60fps patch/fps boost. Probably not going to happen though?

My goodness. Absolutely shafting players on those platforms at that price. I picked it up last year at like 8 or 9 euros and finished playing it recently. Must say it looked great on the Series X cause I think the game got updated for One X back when with 4k resolution...I think.

I have this on Series S already, so whilst I’m disappointed it’s not a remaster, I will probably grab it in a sale for Switch. Portable Red Dead sounds like fun to me - but no way at full price.

Xbox obviously doesn't need a straight port, but it does need a 60fps patch. I assume that the PS4 and especially Switch versions will still be 30fps, with no upgrades, and that kills any chance of a simple remaster happening anytime soon.

$50 for a port? 😂😂 everyone was expecting a remaster what is this.

@Kaloudz Nintendo and PS4/PS5 owners currently have NO way to earn any achievements as the game is NOT playable at all on those platforms. They have no 'saved' data they can use either so have to start from scratch etc.

On Xbox, you can play RDR via BC and continue to earn achievements and carry on where you left off playing on Xbox 360 as your saved data carries over. They don't 'need' to resell the game on Xbox as you can still buy the Game on Xbox and I believe, play at 4k with the Series X built-in upscaling. Its just making the game available on current Nintendo/Playstation hardware for the first time and don't need to bother with MS's console as its already available on Xbox

I recently bought a Series X and a physical preowned limited edition for 15-20 usd (minus the DLC). Doesn’t the Series X has some 4K picture or something ?

Rockstar are a joke these days, I remember the PS2 days when we regularly got exciting games from them yet in just a few months time they will have released 1 new game in 10 YEARS!!! Alongside some dreadful remasters, GTAV never getting a Pro/X patch and now this bare bones port for $50

So is this going to be 4k 60fps on PlayStation? I would assume they'll also have better textures as well so this is a huge disappointment if this all turns out to be true. 4k on Xbox is great but missing out on 60fps is a bigger deal and running with worse assets, if that is the case, is a crap deal as well.

@Kaloudz And its probably Xbox player numbers that made Rockstar consider porting it to Playstation and Nintendo hardware. The fact that people continue to play an 'OLD' game on Current Hardware with much more current software maybe made them think that they could port the game and sell enough to cover costs...

Its obviously not as expensive as a remake or remaster, but it still involves work to ensure it runs as expected on newer/different hardware, newer API's etc so its perhaps less risky in terms of costs vs rewards than remaking/remastering - especially as Xbox/PC gamers can play the Original still so maybe wouldn't buy a remake/remaster to guarantee they can make enough money to justify the work involved...

As the 360 game received a 4K One X enhancement it plays at 4K on the XSX and 1440p on the XSS, with a solid 30fps too.

The only thing Xbox owners miss out on is if they up the frame rate to 60fps, it sounds like this is not the case. I am happy with my super cheap Xbox 360 version which will play across three generations of Xbox thank you very much.

@GuyinPA75 considering the strong rumours were that there was going to be a remaster or remake for consoles including Xbox, this news does affect Xbox gamers. It means that those who don’t already own the game May now buy it rather than waiting for a remake that seemingly isn’t happening, for example.

@Markatron84 Thank you for pointing that article out. Think I missed that one. Would skipped even clicking on article moment saw it was Playstation related. Meh. It does mention game pass at least. Could could do without that article honestly too.

As shared my vote is for Xbox only news, especially from a website called Pure Xbox - - you know, since it's LITERALLY in the name.

If I want to read all encompassing news there are tons of other websites that fill that want or need, which would leave zero desire to ever visit this site.

But as stated SEVERAL times that's just my vote, others may enjoy.

Seems like a missed opportunity to not remake this game. But I guess at that price why bother doing any work at all. I wonder how it will do, I wouldn't feel like I was getting a deal if I paid $20 for a straight 360 port.

@GuyinPA75 Then you missed the subtext of this article. The news here is that it ISN'T coming to Xbox in this specific form while with all the related news leading up to today was the very opposite. Without this article appearing here I wouldn't have known how this release has changed and that it doesn't appear to even be a true remake of the game. This was absolutely news worthy here.
This article goes on to explain how to play this game today and not have to pay the upcoming $50 for it. A big help to many.

I just got the goty on 360 new and sealed for 30 pounds on ebay. I'm very happy with that. I played it in 2011 and am keen for a replay.

If I'd never played it and only had a ps4, I'd be mad at the price too.

@JokerBoy422 Nope, the PS5 version runs at 30fps and 1920x2160p (same as ps pro) it's the worst version.
The Series X runs at Native 4k with assets and 30fps (same as the Xbox one X).

The Port for Nintendo at least has been confirmed to not have the online multiplayer of the original game. So another reason I am happy to not be tricked out of $50 of my hard earned money on the Xbox

But disappointed. Yes, we can play the BC version, but BC has some limitations, like, BC games tend to have a habit of quitting when they go to the background (because the 360 would quit games when you went to the dashboard).

Still good we can play the game, but I would have appreciated a native port.

Yes, this is a big reason I'll probably skip it on Switch. I can play this on my Series X in 4k.

Rockstar are trying rip people off as usual I want a 60 fps for red dead 2 that's it I hate rockstar now they used to be a good company not anymore

@JetmanUK Thanks, I was wondering exactly that. Backwards compatibility is awesome and Xbox One X was massively supported, fortunately. It should get FPS boost now. Series X is up to the task. I thought that it didn't get FPS Boost because of the rumoured and confirmed remaster but Xbox is not getting it.

Is backwards compatibility not well known feature in the Xbox community by now? They touted it for years more than they talk about game pass today.

I'd rather have a broader choice of new games that are not being hampered by development teams having to also make an inferior version of their new game than to be able to go back to games I've played, but hey that's just me

I'll definitely be getting GTA 6 second hand after a few weeks. Rockstar doesn't deserve our money. Greedy greedy company and way behind the competition at this point.

I wouldn’t blame PS5/PS4 and Switch owners scoffing at that price, it’s ridiculous when you can get it for under £10 on Xbox when it’s on sale or buying a pre-owned physical copy. Either way I’m glad I’ve got it BC on my Series X. It’s a shame we didn’t get that remaster/remake that we all thought we were going to get.

Being able to play RDR handheld is very tempting. £50 isn't too bad for a game of this quality. Paid more for far worse.

I mean. SNES games were the same price in the 90s. Surprised games are far, far more expensive with inflation on the years.

Basically my whole issue is the article is geared in reality to Playstation and Nintendo people which is fine. My issue is definitely not want this website to turn into IGN or such by covering everything. The website is called, Pure Xbox. I like that it is just Xbox since 95% of my gaming is Xbox and honestly could care less about Playstation or Nintendo (especially since will never game on Playstation due to the uncomfortable centered sticks).

The article comes out and states this news didn't even matter to Xbox. So my thing is why even write it? Why put it on here? Just waste of space and time I spent reading first few paragraphs and realizing I just wasted time even bothering with it and closed out of article really disgusted.

But if majority of people here like that, that's great for them. Only really like this site to be timely, relevant, Xbox news only.

Wow, R* used to stand for something. Loved them back in the day (Manhunt, Bully, GTA series, ...). I really hope GTA6 will work out. It will probably my last Rockstar game before I go to rest

@GuyinPA75 I can understand your frustration but please try to see it from my perspective. I've been eagerly anticipating this remake or remaster of Red Dead Redemption, specifically for Xbox as that is my main console, but PC would be nice too. So I've been looking forward to news about this ever since it's been starting to leak. If PureXbox didn't post this article I wouldn't have known about this surprising turn of events and I'd probably have gone a few days before hearing about it through other news cycles. I appreciate that PureXbox made the article to tell Xbox users that it's surprisingly not a remaster, it's surprisingly not coming to Xbox (but for decent reasons after explanation), and with that explanation how Xbox players can still get all of the benefits of this "news" and not have to pay the high price of entry like Nintendo and PlayStation owners would have to.

I'd buy this again on a deep discount if it released on PC so I can play it on my Steam Deck, but no way would I pay that price on any system now.

I'm fine with my 360 copy.

So many people clamour for these remasters when they all work perfectly well on Xbox already. I’ve said this before but Xbox is probably seeing all these re-releases and thinking, “why did we even bother” if they are all going to be coming out again anyway.

@Dan1283 On systems where you can patch games they always have. PC games have always been this way. There's a good few fan made patches for old games now. This isn't some new thing at all. It's happening on consoles as they release patches and are forced into very quick development cycles.

I remember games on the ZX Spectrum that were released that you couldn't complete due to bugs. Jet Set Willy is a quite famous example. Shame as the first person to complete that was going to win a helicopter ride

So, they expect us to pay full price for an old game, that can be found very cheaply these days. This is not a remaster, nor is it a remake. It is simply a re-release. What is the point? As we all know, the original 360 version runs perfectly well on the Series X.

So the obvious question is “Why bother?”
And the obvious answer “Greed”.

But this also means that the supposed remake or remaster, or rebuild, or whatever - is never going to happen.

Xbox and PC don’t need this port since MS and emulation community, without the access to a single asset or a line of code, did better job than Rockstar. My expectations were low, but holy ****!

So, not a remaster. Just a re-release of a 10+ year old game. Albeit, great game. Just a re-release.

Not sure if anyone mentioned it, but the X360 BC version still has online functionality, The PlayStation and Switch version doesn't.
