Rockstar Announces New $50 Port Of Red Dead Redemption, But Xbox Doesn't Need It

The big news of today is that Rockstar Games is officially releasing a port of the 2010 classic Red Dead Redemption for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 on August 17th, but it won't be coming to Xbox for a very good reason.

Of course, the reason is that Red Dead Redemption is already backwards compatible on Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, and therefore there's no need for this straight port (not a remaster or a remake) to make the jump.

Surprisingly, this port for PS4 and Switch costs an eye-watering $49.99, and although it does come with the Undead Nightmare expansion along with extra content from the Game of the Year Edition, it's still a big increase on the standard Xbox price of $29.99 - and don't forget that version often gets reduced by around 75% in the Xbox sales!

In other words, it's a good day to be an Xbox owner! Red Dead Redemption already plays great on everything from Xbox 360 to Xbox Series X, and you can pick it up a lot cheaper than $49.99. The only downside is that we're seemingly not getting that rumoured "remaster" or "remake", although who knows what Rockstar has planned for the future...
