It's good-to-great. I get that many people with shake their hands because of direction of campaign, but I found it genuinely fun, especially endgame.
Of course there are few gripes like story that isn't coherent and some design constraints (teammates talking to you even if they are not there, because two players disconnected or lack of in-mission saves).
MP is way better than BO6 at launch with better maps and few interesting ideas (Overclocks on scorestreaks and equipment).
I played only one Zombies round so I can't give my opinion on that just yet.
So while it isn't the best COD, it's miles away from MW3 for example.
I would be more glad if they would finally expand number of countries where Rewards are available. I truly don't understand why Microsoft Rewards ARE available, but Xbox Rewards are not...
@themightyant Also, what he can blame Microsoft for? They literally gave him everything. Exciting location where huge amount of big studios are to poach devs from... ...when things went south, they gave them Certain Affinity as co-dev... ...when that went south they gave them Crystal Dynamics as co-dev... Despite that nothing. After 8 years of funding.
@Questionable_Duck Yeah. I'm sure they do that to appease Arrowhead. Especially since they own the IP and Arrowhead already told that they are making their next game without Sony
Only "downside" is when you are achievement hunter. Because when you have Sony's approach, you can technically earn trophies for one game twice (one for PS5 and second for PS4 version) while on Xbox, Series X/S and One SKU are treated as one game. So only one achievement list.
@Kaloudz Vertical slice is like a preview of a final game. So for example you will take one planned level and make it complete - as if you was planning to ship it as a full game. Everything from visuals to gameplay systems and VO. It's like a proof of concept for your game and it then serve as a blueprint for rest of a production.
@Kaloudz Basically full production means that you know the game you are building (thanks to vertical slice) and you have stuff like script and all required info (number of levels etc) and you are actually building all that stuff.
It's also most intensive part of dev proces in terms of size of team.
@Kaloudz They went in full production in late 2024. Exact month is unknown.
From public information from Remedy and Naughty Dog, full AAA game production tend to last 2-3 years. Same as that cancelled Blackbird MMO from ZOS that was ready to enter full production with goal of shipping a game in 2028. Witcher 4 also entered full production late last year with shipping goal for 2027.
Of course that is when production is relatively smooth.
So, Grubb was right on money when he said that Blade is targeting 2027 as a release year...
Not surprising and not necessary to have this game ready for 2026. Especially since Xbox already have plenty of games for 2026. If that Fable/Forza Horizon 6/Gears of War E-Day/Halo CE Remaster tease will come to fruition. Plus obligatory COD (MW4)
Xbox had over 20k employees last year. So I truly don't know where Brussard took that 10k number from.
I think Microsoft will axe huge chunks in COD mobile development since Warzone Mobile flopped hard.
From what I read, 2018 Xbox studios (Undead, Obsidian, inXile, Ninja Theory, Compulsion Games, Playground and I guess also Double Fine) have a wording in their buyout contracts that should prevent them from shutting down. Instead it would be Toys for Bob type of situation - going independent. Although PG obviously isn't under threat. And I guess Undead, Obsidian and inXile are also safe.
Unfortunately, this is all because of ABK merger that left Xbox division in 70 billion deep hole and more importantly left them at forefront of financial oversight of Microsoft, since Xbox is literally third biggest moneymaker for Microsoft.
People need to realise that this is "niche within the niche" situation. Number of people who buy physical version of games is already dropping. People who will refuse to buy a physical game when full game is small percentage of already small percentage of people who are buying physical
@themightyant Well, I'm not gonna argue. I just posted this straight from game dev's mouth to shed some light.
Because when you look at this, you can counter-argue "just delay the game 6 weeks"
At the end of the day, this issue covers "niche within niche." If people are so angry about it, then they just won't buy a game. But it's pretty clear that they are not that many, because publishers would not be doing that.
COD games are best sellers almost every year despite them pulling this stuff.
@themightyant One of the game devs on ResetEra explained it.
"It takes 6 weeks usually to cert and print discs. 6 weeks that are better spent on the game and not distracting the team to final a disc build. Not a surprise. Would take this any day."
"In the past it was a trade off that studios did, less dev time on the game and possibly more crunch to finish the disc build. As time goes and digital becomes an ever more present reality, studios are deciding where to put their priority, and more and more teams are opt-ing for that to be the full day 1 release and thus you are seeing these compromises with discs only having stubs and licenses on them. The smaller the physical market becomes, the more teams will decide to do this."
Last few months of Game Pass first-party are literally insane October - Black Ops 6 November - MSFS 2024 December - Indiana Jones February - Avowed April - Oblivion Remaster, South of Midnight May - DOOM July - Tony Hawk 3+4 August - Gears late 2025 - COD 2025, The Outer Worlds 2, Ninja Gaiden 4, COD 2025
It's hilarious that Xbox went from "no first-party games" to "sheesh, slow down because I can't keep up" lol
Obvious delay. Can't remember last Rockstar game that shipped without a delay.
But kudos to Rockstar to announce delay now. Because they were blueballing entire industry so devs and publishers didn't know when to place their game during late 2025.
@AirForceMetroid What? Yes. Tarrifs existed in past, but they were employed strategically to protect certain industries. But this was in time when you could effectively sourced whole product from your country.
Which isn't true anymore. For example, you can't just dig minerals that are required to make chips from anywhere lol. Same for materials for batteries on EVs. Doing tariff war in time when whole trade is interconnected and to make one car you are sourcing materials/components from whole world is dumbest idea on Earth.
Like what the ***** you think will happen? Do you really think Apple will start manufacturing iPhones in USA? Do you know how much that iPhone would cost considering cost of labor lol? How much do you think manufacturing of Xbox/PS consoles in US would cost? You can effectively double a price of current PS5 and Series X and you probably have a landing spot.
These price hikes are happening because companies want to protect themselves from idiot president who tends to wake up and make new ***** without thinking and without reason.
Outside of plenty of "smoke" from insiders regarding exact week when Oblivion would be drop, it's really hard to harm nobody when you are releasing your game considering there are multiple game released every day
@NishimuraX You probably didn't "get" my post. But okay.
Hilarious to me is reaction like if it's first time this happened. Not fact that gamers have "less choice." I already made my choice. I don't care if physical continues to exist for next 50 years for others to buy.
Fact that even consoles are moving towards digital is not "me championing that" but reality. Even Nintendo in my region is starting pricing physical games to be more expensive (as they should have been from beginning) than digital in obvious attempt to move players towards digital. PS5 Pro releasing without BD drive is obvious attempt to test adoption rate of external BD drive before next-gen and Xbox and PS making handhelds will move even more players towards digital.
Also, you have ability to buy Xbox digital games outside of Xbox Store, just like Steam games. So "less choice" is interesting way to frame that lol.
All and all, market has decided. Microsoft don't see a worth of "printing" second disc just to fit whole game on physical edition. They probably know that people are mainly buying physical games because they want to resell them (which they can even if full game is not on disc) or they want to put that case on shelf so they can have good vibes from it. And amount of people who will not buy Indy on PS5 just because BD just hold 20GB is just miniscule.
And expecting Microsoft to treat PS5 users in some kind of privileged position is foolish. The moment I saw how much GB Indy takes and how Xbox physical version was released, I knew that this exact treatment would be there for PS version. And that's not me saying that I agree with Microsoft. I'm just stating the obvious.
It's hilarious reading these meltdowns while I personally haven't bought physical game since 2017 lol.
And while I don't fully understand it, it was expected. Microsoft for sure won't treat PS users as some kind of special breed. Indy has 125GB which would mean getting two discs in case. And Microsoft is clearly not willing to do that. So I expect DOOM TGA to be the same.
It's maybe a shock for PS users, since PS is more prevalent in terms of physical discs. Seeing cries about FH5 not getting physical version or this is funny. But not surprising. Xbox is already 90% digital. First party even more (because of Game Pass).
I call ***** on this one. Okay, if there are some problems with licensing, deal with those problems. But I doubt there are any problems with releasing Modern Warfare 2 (new one) or even Vanguard or Black ops Cold War on Game Pass. They are modern games and I doubt there are any problems with licensing.
I just think they are not bringing them to Game Pass, because Black Ops 6 is their moneymaker and they are afraid that people will back to the games that can't be monetised that well.
It's pretty clear that Microsoft can't launch new Xbox as a closed ecosystem. It would too niche and devs would probably stop supporting it. So making a PC with Xbox shell sounds pretty logical. But it's a case of "how will you implement." Because on paper it sounds good.
We would have access to many more games thanks to PC ecosystem including PlayStation games. It would basically solve "will devs support a platform" problem. But there are many questions that needs to be answered.
so we have a "insider" fight One is claiming that Fable was delayed to create a space for Gears of War E-Day and other Xbox releases Other is claiming that there is no GoW E-Day for 2025 but we will have Gears collection this year.
I'm more interested in vision of Xbox ecosystem moving forward. It's pretty clear that it doesn't make sense for Xbox to make closed ecosystem like they used to do, because with them moving to multiplatform releases, it would be death sentence for the hardware and support from third-party devs.
I don't have plans to leave Xbox ecosystem, so I would be obviously interested into new hardware. Series X will be 6 years old and it have served me well. So I would welcome more horsepower even for higher price.
Feb: Avowed April: South of Midnight May: DOOM: The Dark Ages June: Showcase July: Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4 Rest of 2025: COD 2025, Gears Collection (rumored), The Outer Worlds 2, Ninja Gaiden 4
@GeorgeKal It makes sense if my theory is correct. If they are releasing all D_D games in first half of 2025, it really doesn't make sense to include Fable there. Especially since there will be summer showcase.
To me, bigger issue with D_D in inclusion of third-party games. I think that D_D should be reserved for first-party titles only. For third-party games, there is Partner Preview.
@GeorgeKal My theory is that The Outer Worlds 2 and Fable are for second half of 2025, so they will be in summer showcase. I would be surprised if Fable wasn't given "Direct" style presentation like BO6 in 2024 and Starfield in 2023
Hence SoM and Doom will be out before June. With Avowed it makes great first half of year for Xbox.
So, february for Avowed, march of SoM and may for DooM?
My main gripe is that Xbox Rewards are only available in small number of countries. Which is hilarious, because Microsoft Rewards ARE available in my country. But Xbox Rewards are not.
@themightyant 75% console games in Europe in 2024 were sold digitally. And this number only covers AAA/AA games that tend to skew more for physical copies.
On Xbox, only 19% of AAA/AA games in Europe were sold in form of physical copies. 32% for PlayStation. Switch is holding, but digital share is also growing.
It's pretty obvious which way wind is blowing. And not just on Xbox.
Xbox is just way ahead in share of digital sales. But PS5 Pro already came out with BD drive as optional accessory, and I fully expect that next Xbox and PS6 will both be without BD drive out of the box with option to connect one.
And publishers will move away from retail towards style that Remedy implemented with AW2. Digital only release and then some kind of physical limited release few months after release.
@UnusedBabyWipes OG game is published by Sony. On PlayStation. But Sony still owns IP. So as I said. There is no way 505 Games could have released Xbox port without Sony saying "okay, you can do that"
I wonder if it is some kind of exception, or it is Sony dipping their toes. Because there is no way that they haven't signed off this port since it's build on Decima (engine that Horizon games are built on) and Sony also owns the IP.

Which probably means that Death Stranding 2 on Xbox is matter of "when" not "if"
Re: Surprise! Death Stranding Director's Cut Is Now Available On Xbox Series X|S
I wonder if it is some kind of exception, or it is Sony dipping their toes.
Because there is no way that they haven't signed off this port since it's build on Decima (engine that Horizon games are built on) and Sony also owns the IP.
Re: PlayStation's Wolverine Director Now Working On Perfect Dark For Xbox
Drew Murray left The Initiative to work on Wolverine
Horton left Insomniac to work on Perfect Dark
that's funny tbh
But no surprising. Horton is former Crystal Dynamics guy, so he knows Darrel Gallagher pretty well.
