@Banjo- indeed. This is microsoft long term. Getting people and keeping people paying.
Usually people will drop off of a console at a specific period in life. Study, baby, marriage, whatever. At least a few of them will stay engaged this way.
@NeoRatt true. I indeed calculated revenue, not profit.
It’s a service on top of all the other services they have to keep up and running: online play, social options, cloud save, even the online shop. Servers are therefore already there. It’s nothing more than an extra option to play games and pay for them. And the subscription has various options. So it’s very difficult to determine if game pass in particular is profitable or not because how do you divide all the costs over all the services Microsoft is offering?
What should be profitable is the gaming section for Microsoft as a whole, and it most likely is (when looking at their investment for ABK).
Nintendo’s revenue over 2023 was $ 12 billion. Microsoft most likely reaches 25% of that with game pass subscriptions alone, not even sales, other services or hardware.
I absolutely love this format. It gives a little bit of insight into who worked on the game and their thoughts going into the game. And while doing that, it just shows a lot of respect to these people and their hard work.
It feels like a garnished meal in a dining restaurant, compared to a quick sushi break in a sushi bar that is the Nintendo Direct.
Absolutely A for me. 3 out of 5 games I’ll play day 1 (or weekend 1 for that matter). And I really dig the format of giving a spotlight to the people that made the games. This must be so thrilling to them.
This’ll be an awesome year for xbox. Especially if they sprinkle in a little bit of acti-blizz on gamepass.
@awp69 we don’t know if this is the title that was mentioned. Hi-fi rush has been rated for the Switch in Australia so that’s probably another exclusive going elsewhere.
@Divide_and_Wander don’t expect Fable for a few years, if I were you. I think that will be a massive system seller but a few more years down the road .
I think those will he 1., 2. And 3. though, knowing the internet.
But I’m mostly looking forward to the cool physics stuff people come up with. Maybe somebody will make a mod to include the functionality of ultra hand (from Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom) to this game. That would be very cool!
All I know xbox has saved me a lot of money last year with game pass. All those awesome indies and a few big budget games I usually buy physical for switch I have now played with use of my subscription on my xbox series x or on my phone with remote play or via the cloud.
Their service just rocks. It’s a complete package. And I can’t wait for their upcoming exclusives which they’ll be ramping up from now on now that the ABK deal is done. As others have said they’re now completely in for the long run.
And the only games I feel I am missing out on on PS5 only (and not on PS4) are the final fantasy games which we’ll get to see on pc or xbox anyway.
I really gave it a D. Could have been less. Absolutely don’t like the setup of the game awards. There’s almost no time for the awards themselves, most awards go by in a bleep. It’s just one big advertisement.
@JaffeGaffe good idea. There are a lot of rpg arcade games in starcraft that are great! Copying those and implementing them in a ‘destiny 2 style’ or something might be a big opportunity for Blizzard.
@HonestHick i agree with you on the stance of Blizzard. I was a huge fan, even a bit zealous, of everything Starcraft and Warcraft. Such a shame Metzen, Michael Morhaime and Pearce left, and most of the top of Activision-Blizzard did those outrageous stuff to their employees. Made me quit Blizzard games all-together. Hopefully Spencer and his team is able to improve circumstances of the Blizzard team again and enough.
@rustyduck because it will eat away sales of mw3, and there is still this deal between activision and sony, and I think there’s somewhere in that deal that cod is not allowed on any subscription service.
Yeah, Square is feeling the pain of ps5 exclusiveness at home in Japan, with the switch dominating over there. Apparently their investors are not really happy with how SE is performing lately. They want to release final fantasy vii and xvi on the switch 2 next year, and xbox will profit of that as well.
This game is apparently also very prone / open for modders. It’ll be a game that one can return to every couple of years to experience what the community has done with it in the mean time.
I don’t trust all these xbox only delays. Feels to me a bit like these developers are getting a last minute check from Sony for some sort of timed exclusivity deal.
Give me a dedicated handheld and/or all the turn based rpg’s I can get on game pass or a way to play my library on xcloud and it’s a go!
Action games, fighters, fps and platformers are not suitable for xcloud. Action adventures and especially puzzle games and turn based or strategy rpg’s are very well suited for cloud gaming. So we need more or easier access to those types of games. I’d play it on the train, in the park or on the toilet at work.
@CutchuSlow apparently he helped remove restrictions on Microsoft side for for instance being able to communicate cross-platform. If I have listened to SpawnWave correctly.

Re: Hogwarts Legacy Is Getting New 'Features' And 'Updates' On Xbox This Year
Console exclusive content is the stupidest thing ever, if the price of the games are the same.
Unless exclusive content is give equally to all versions, such as the extra character in Soul Calibur 2.
Glad they’re bringing it over.

Re: Xbox Game Pass Likely Surpassed 33 Million Subs Last Year, Claims Analyst
33.3 million game pass subs of which 55% ultimate means 18.315 million subs paying $17 per month, and 14.985 million subs paying $10 per month.
This means a monthly revenue of $461 million, before taxes for the service alone. Not bad.

Re: Bethesda Explains Why Xbox's Indiana Jones Game Will Be 'Mostly' First-Person
@RentedPanda that you see it from the eyes of the enemies getting shot?
Or that you have to place a camera pointing at your face from the side and that you see yourself looking at the screen?
How does 2nd person work….? Hmmmm
Re: Bethesda Explains Why Xbox's Indiana Jones Game Will Be 'Mostly' First-Person
Machinegames is known for their first person work, so when we knew they’re working on it, we kinda already knew it would be first person.

Most nintendo games get 1 year of support max. This is how it should be imo, get the team to work on new stuff, it’ll keep them fresh too!

@Martsmall you’re correct. I got my news from https://mynintendonews.com/2024/01/09/hi-fi-rush-rated-for-nintendo-switch-in-australia/
I shouldn’t trust any newssite other than the ones run by Hookshot media…

Re: Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League Receives Mixed Feedback In 'Hands-On' Previews
Redfall 2.0 i’m afraid. Development team split on what they want to achieve. Good at single player games, but forced to make a live service game…
Hopefully it turns out to be great, but we’ll see…

Xbox will get there. Not this complete generation but in a year or two and onwards.

January and June one.
Xbox had the best ‘directs’ this year out of the big three imo. Loads in the pipeline, let’s hope it’ll start delivering starting next year.

I want something new for the Starcraft universe. Or warcraft iv.
Love the rts games Blizzard has made in their lifetime.

Re: Talking Point: What Would Convince You To Use Xbox Cloud Gaming More Often?
Give me a dedicated handheld and/or all the turn based rpg’s I can get on game pass or a way to play my library on xcloud and it’s a go!
Action games, fighters, fps and platformers are not suitable for xcloud. Action adventures and especially puzzle games and turn based or strategy rpg’s are very well suited for cloud gaming. So we need more or easier access to those types of games. I’d play it on the train, in the park or on the toilet at work.
Re: Talking Point: Should Xbox Make A Revised Controller With Haptic Feedback?
The feature Xbox should include is gyro.
Once you’re used to it it’s godlike for fps. Can’t play without anymore.
