Xbox is dead, long live Microsoft Gaming. Where they don’t care about top-notch exclusives on the box, but ok-ish games on every platform.

Indy getting delayed would be a shame (might be a great 3d metroidvania) but I expect it to happen at this point. It’s a game that doesn’t fit the new Microsoft Gaming mantra, so why should it release?

I’m also awaiting the upcoming Microsoft Marketing Mess where they’ll tell the game runs only at 1080p and does not support feature X on the xbox series S. (Or that they forget to advertise it at all). Or that a report leaks out where it’s said that the game has 3 months of exclusivity and then comes to PS5. Or that you’re able to buy a super suit or 3 additional story levels for more money.

Yes, still the worst. There’s no way to explain the name to parents or little kids. And you should be able to do both easily if you want to sell an entertainment product. What does ‘xbox’ mean? What does ‘series’ mean and what does the X and S stand for? Still no idea. We also saw it with the Wii U. (What does the U even mean and is it an upgrade or an addon?!)

Playstation is easy. And 5 > 4. Marketing done. Also, Nintendo Switch is perfect. Brand + feature as one name.

Why didn’t they name it Xbox Two X and Xbox Two S? Would’ve been way easier.

Well, to be honest, the marketing of Microsoft is bad in general. I’m missing their ‘story’. Playstation is sports, super heroes and adult arpg’s, Nintendo is family friendly and a boat load of nostalgia. What is Microsoft selling? Just feels to me they’re making ‘corporate games’ without that bit of a soul currently. Just feels they want to get the games out the door without any shbam or hearth.

Also: What would make me buy a console when there’s an add for the firestick ‘play without a console’? And what would make me want to buy a game when it’s in development for years, being shown for years, but the final product is not marketed in the last months and does not hold any secrets anymore?

Microsoft is horrible at marketing, and i don’t see that as a budget issue only.

Although: You can emulate still on an xbox series S, right?

In that case: Lufia II: Rise of the Sinestrals. i’ll hide it somewhere in the roms folder and nobody will notice I’ll bring a 4th game.

Microsofts Marketing Mess continues

Another day, another Microsoft Marketing Mess.

God, how annoying.

Welp. Back to just buying my game then, I guess. At least you know when you’re able to play something.

The most annoying part to me is that I’ll be missing out on playing games via xcloud.

Did they ever start promoting the xbox in Europe? I’ve never seen a tv-add, billboard or any of the sort over here.

Can Microsoft start already with releasing their first party games to the service…? So many games that have been promised for years, which kept a lot of people subscribed, but now that they finally seem to release some of them (lets wait and see) they’re increasing their prices? Again?

What a way to alienate yourself from your audience.

Microsoft is absolutely trying to lose me as a subscription here.

I used to play WoW, but have a wife now, kids, job (both me and my wife), so way, way less. Max 4-5 hours a week.

@sonicbooming yes, I agree, that’s also another reason for me why I game less. I also have a job staring at a lot of screens the whole day. I also prefer not staring at screens for most of my evenings.

@Scrubchub highly recommend the series. Predecessor of Persona and Pokémon, with a very dark tone.

The Anno series is great, might play this one at some point!

The thing I liked the most about this showcase: there were four live service games: wow, fallout 76, elder scrolls online, sea of thieves. But none of those are new.

And there was one hero shooter but that one looked different from all the others, and with big head mode, i mean come ON. And one mmo mech shooter, also looked very cool.

The rest is, as far as I can tell, single player games with some multiplayer stuff if you want? So different from the direction Sony is going. Way way better. Hopefully xbox wont leave its ID@xbox program behind, though. AAA and indies complement each other.

It was a great showcase for Xbox fans. And xbox has an identity again: Shooters, Demon stuff, western RPG’s and space stuff. All that belongs on xbox.

Got to admit, too much gore for me. Especially that diablo iv trailer, that one made me shiver. And they’ve clearly stepped away from the smaller productions like hi-fi rush or pentiment. We’ll never see that again from xbox.

I’m mainly looking forward to the more light-hearted Indian Jones, Fable, Flight Simulator, Perfect Dark and Metal Gear Solid D. And Stalker 2 because the first one was so, so good.

Edit: almost forgot Expedition 33. Thát looked like my cup of tea.

We just finally got a great xbox exclusive…. And immediately the predictions for a showcase that doesn’t show up for three more weeks.

Yeah, the brand is dead. Just turn it into a soulless ‘Microsoft Gaming’ already and chug it in the corner next to Facebook Gaming, Prime Gaming and Google Stadia already.

Ok, i take back all the good words I had about Xbox in recent years. The management simply sucks if they buy studios and close them after they’ve released their first game under higher management. Especially because they say they’re going to focus on their bigger games in their portfolio (Call of Duty…..).

Well, back to my Nintendo consoles then, they’re the only normally run company still standing in the gaming business.

Missed opportunity in my opinion.

Making a remake of the 2nd game in the franchise would also increase the sales of the first game again. And if it’s up to today’s standards it would be a game that you could bring back multiple times during sales and sell to subscription services.

As is Capcom doing with Resident Evil.

Maybe Xbox should make 3 different tiers of gamepass. Indie, Core (only first party) and Ultimate (indie, first and 3d party).

I’d at least go for the indie one, love the little and creative games people make often more than a non creative number x in a franchise AAA game.

@BIG3 because the form factor of the hardware could be one of the reasons that it’s not selling as well as it could.

They try to get more people into game pass. And for that you have to offer various ways of entry

@abe_hikura yeah, same. With a clean ui, cold to the touch and access to gamepass and hopefully xcloud too.

If it does have access to gamepass and doesn’t work like a portal but more like a steamdeck, it’s an instant buy for me. And I’ll probably never buy another game ever again (besides the occasional Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest and Nintendo games)

@Krydle my experience is that it depends on the game you’re trying.

I mainly play turn based rpg’s on xcloud and those look and play great in my experience.

For all other games I use Remote Play.

Most games of Ubisoft are discounted so deep after a few weeks that Ubisoft+ is definitely not worth the subscription costs.

Prince of Persia is on deep discount in Europe already! 40% off. Within a month.

They need one of those slick reveal trailers Nintendo had, the one where they showed off all uses of the Switch.

And then present all ways to play Xbox games.

Great idea, loved it when they first revealed it and cant wait to give the copter a go!

@Dimey i think it’s mainly because rumours spiralled out of control. And they’re not able to talk about it before Nintendo’s rumoured direct on Thursday, which usually happen around 18.00 pm CEST.

It’s not the first two.

There have been other games published by microsoft already been put on other platforms.

Ori, hellblade, banjo-kazooie, minecraft to name a few.

I think it’s great if Microsoft puts all one-offs on other platforms to generate revenue and identifies the big series that it wants to keep exclusive. Halo, gears of war, forza, flight simulator, doom, those kind of ‘big testosteron games’ would probably be the best fit.

And then make another group of exclusive games to make it more appealing to families. Spyro, crash, hi-fi rush, banjo-kazooie, minecraft, tunic, …

It’ll make Microsoft gaming the ‘one platform for all’. Next to the family friendly Nintendo and the masculine playstation systems.

I’d buy a dedicated game pass handheld day 1.

@Balta666 first one is on pc, second one will probably be on pc soon enough as well.

With Activision-Blizzard now under their umbrella they have so many fps-ip’s. They’re probably consolidating a bit while deciding which ip’s and engines should be on the forefront going forward, and which ip’s are going dormant for a while.
