Re: Xbox's Next-Gen Vision Could Transform How We Look At Consoles In The Future

@Millionski Played the first couple of Uncharteds, a bit of Spider-Man, a bit of Last of Us, haven't got around to GOW yet. I'll get there eventually, but I'm happy to enjoy those on PS4 for now.

It's hard enough trying to keep up with all the new Xbox releases for this job, let alone playing on other platforms as well 😅 That said, my Switch OLED gets quite a lot of use...

Re: Titanfall 3 Is Suddenly Being Rumoured Again, But Apparently It's 'Not True'

FraserG

It seemed too good to be true, and apparently it is - at least according to Jeff Grubb of Giant Bomb. Article has been updated, and here's a bit of his quote from YouTube today:

"This isn't real. I'm sorry, it's not real.

There is a skunkworks team headed up by Titanfall 1 director Steve Fukuda, he's got a small team over there that is probably messing around with like, games that have titans in them.

Does he have a prototype that has titans in it? I would certainly assume that is a safe thing to think. Now, is that going to get announced in 2025 and released in 2026? No way."

Re: Xbox's Next-Gen Vision Could Transform How We Look At Consoles In The Future

@Millionski It's hard to say. There's nothing about a PS5 that's ever really appealed to me - I occasionally play my PS4, and that's about enough. Aside from Astro Bot, I can't think of any exclusive I'd be that bothered about on PS5. The same would likely go for PS6, although who knows...

The main thing is that I wouldn't want to ditch the Game Pass model now. That's the big reason why I'll stay loyal to Xbox consoles (aside from the fact I work for an Xbox-focused site!).

Re: Xbox's Next-Gen Vision Could Transform How We Look At Consoles In The Future

@Coletrain Thank you! Much appreciated

I think the main thing for me is that it still supports backwards compatibility in a big way. Let's use that as a base - if I can still play all the same games on it (plus the next-gen stuff obviously), I'm immediately interested.

After that... can I say I'm not really sure? I'm still perfectly happy with my Series X at the moment, so unless the next console is radically different with Steam support, Epic Games support, more Windows-like features - while still retaining all the greatest bits of what we have now - I don't really know how a new console can entice me yet.

I think I'm ready for a drastic change in the next generation 😅

Re: NHL 25 Is The Latest Addition To April's Xbox Game Pass Lineup

FraserG

@dkxcalibur If they're in the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate library, they're fully unlocked.

If they're just "trial" versions, you only get 10 hours with them but they're still feature-complete (for the most part). NHL 25 has had a trial since it released, for example, but it's now going into the Game Pass library.

Re: Roundup: Here's What The Reviews Are Saying About Xbox's South Of Midnight

FraserG

@ChrisDeku Sure, I see where you're coming from - but all of that is handled by a different team at Hookshot.

The writing staff (including myself) never know what kind of ads are going to show up, so they're not influenced by those in any way. I'm the one that talks to PR companies to acquire review codes as well, so it's not like they're being passed to us by an advertising team.

Re: Roundup: Here's What The Reviews Are Saying About Xbox's South Of Midnight

FraserG

@Fiendish-Beaver Nope.

Nobody's ever pressured us, or offered to pay us, or anything like that to score their games higher. We just score them how we feel.

In terms of the "fear" aspect you mention, about missing out on review copies in the future and stuff like that - it certainly goes through my head when we publish a negative review, but I'd rather we stayed true to our opinions and took the risk. We're never going to artificially inflate a score just to please a publisher.

Re: Nintendo Just Broke Our Hearts With Today's Final Fantasy 7 Annoucement

FraserG

@Utena-mobile It's OK! Everyone has their right to an opinion and I certainly pay attention to all the comments - just wanted to clear up that there are specific reasons why we cover certain types of content and don't get to the others.

Pure Xbox is in a good place, but it's just always been a small team - and so we really have to pick and choose what we talk about. If it were up to me, we'd cover 30+ stories a day! 😅

Re: Nintendo Just Broke Our Hearts With Today's Final Fantasy 7 Annoucement

FraserG

@Utena-mobile We have a much smaller team than Push Square. I'm actually running Pure Xbox almost entirely on my own this week.

We also have a smaller audience share than Nintendo Life and Push Square, so some of the more niche stories that you might find over there aren't going to perform as well here. They won't attract enough views or comments to make them worth my time.

We have to prioritise what we cover. There are only so many hours in a day and so many stories that can be written about. I'm already working 10 hour days on here this week.

@Valhura You can choose to look at it that way if you want to, but I'm just trying to prioritise stories that people are most interested in.

Re: Atomfall Is Already A Colossal Success On Xbox Game Pass & Beyond

FraserG

@LogicStrikesAgain I mean, I think it's fair for them to call it a success right now. Less than a week, over 1.5 million players already - that feels like a very successful start, regardless of whatever the sales say.

As you say though, whether that will equate to long-term monetary success remains to be seen.
