Surprise! Larian Studios has announced that the Xbox One game Divinity: Original Sin 2 has received a free upgrade for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, and it's available as of today.
The team says you can access the free upgrade by searching for the "DOS:2 Upgrade Pack" on the Xbox Store, but that doesn't seem to be necessary — simply download Divinity: Original Sin 2 - Definitive Edition and it should give you the newly-optimised version for Xbox Series X and Series S through the Xbox Smart Delivery program.
From the team that brought you Baldur’s Gate 3, critically-acclaimed role-playing game Divinity: Original Sin 2 is now available on the latest generation of consoles! Immerse yourself in the world of Rivellon, and forge your path to godhood - alone or together.
Details are extremely minimal on this version of the game at launch, but we do know that it's not considered a "remake" or "remaster", so don't expect anything too crazy in terms of improvements.
It’s not a remake or a remaster; this is your way to experience the classic DOS:2 on the current generation of consoles!
Nevertheless, this is an absolutely classic RPG from the minds behind Baldur's Gate 3, and the Xbox One version has a whopping 92 average rating on Metacritic. It's that good, folks!
It's also on sale for the next two days if you're interested, available at a price of £14.52 / $17.49 on the Xbox Store. We'll leave you with more details about the game itself along with some screenshots below.
The Divine is dead. The Void approaches. And the powers lying dormant within you are soon to awaken. Choose your role in a BAFTA-winning story, and explore a world that reacts to who you are, and the choices you make. With five races to choose from, and an adventure playable solo or as a party of up to four, lay waste to an oppressive order in a world afraid of magic. Become the God the world so desperately needs. Divinity: Original Sin 2: Definitive Edition is the most complete version of the best-selling, Metacritic Must-Play RPG.

One of my favourite games of all time. I kick-started the game way back when, and then played it in Early Access before then playing the full release on the PC. When it released on the Xbox, I bought it again, and even managed to get the achievement for playing through on the hardest difficulty without dying, which remains to this day the achievement that I am most proud of, as I think it was the hardest one I have done. Indeed I just checked and I unlocked it on the 10th of November 2018, and it has been unlocked by 0.28% of other players. I seem to remember when I first unlocked it, that the achievement had only been popped by 0.09% of players. I actually managed to get the full 1000g on the game, which is something I rarely do, truth be told...
I still have Divinity Original Sin 2 installed on my Xbox, @FraserG, and when I tried to start it just now, it immediately said it needed an update. The actual update is 19.82g, which seems fairly substantial to me, though I am no expert on these things...
@Fiendish-Beaver Thank you! Yeah, it seems to be using Smart Delivery to determine which platform you're on, so players on Series X and S should be getting upgraded automatically.
