If you've followed Xbox closely over the past few years, you may have come across an extremely popular influencer known as Lamarr Wilson — he's even appeared on the Xbox YouTube channel before, as you can see below.
The tech world was rocked over the weekend when it was revealed that Wilson had passed away last month, reportedly after taking his own life. Tributes have been pouring in as a result, including from Xbox exec Aaron Greenberg, who shared a lengthy message on his Twitter account about how much Lamarr meant to him.
Here's an excerpt of what he had to say:
"It’s unexplainable sometimes how the world works, but I loved Lamarr for the incredible human he was and how much joy, kindness, and laughter he brought to the world. We became good friends many years ago and would always chat like buddies about our favorite things, dreams, silly jokes, and so much more. I’ve really struggled processing this news since learning about it yesterday. I’ve read through our pages and pages of chats back and forth laughing, crying, remembering, and looking for signals. What did I miss, what should I have done? I’m so devastated to learn someone who gave some much of himself did not get enough from us to help him want to still be here with us."
"If you didn’t know Lamarr, he was a super talent. Made incredible content and had a rare talent to take any product or idea and explain it in a way everyone could understand. He was super generous with his time, mentoring others, always stopping to talk to folks at events and engage as well as give advice to others online. To all his friends and family, I am sending love and strength your way. I’m also here if you ever want to talk to someone to help process this news. I’m also going to be personally donating in his honor to Crisis Text Line and The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention."
In a separate post, The Game Awards host Geoff Keighley enthused how Wilson "had a rare ability to lift people up just by being himself", and that "every conversation with him left me feeling a little more energized".
On behalf of Pure Xbox, our best wishes are with Lamarr Wilson's friends and family following this tragic loss.
