Also, I understand wanting most of my games on my Series X over my PS5. I’m also really weird in that I want to play Switch games on my Series X with my PS5 controller. I’ll keep dreaming.

100% I would love to see a new take on Hexen. I remember finding a copy of Hexen 64 in a GameStop discount bin for $6 when I was young. My friend’s mom gave them permission to sell it to me lol

The CMA and FTC are just trying to make themselves look useful. I’ve supported FTC objections in the past but this one seems erroneously motivated.

Musk is just determined for that platform to go out in a loud, toxic bang.

The FTC, no matter which political party they are currently affiliated with, is constantly trying to make itself seem relevant.

Imagine having the time, capital, and void in your life to spend it resurrecting bulls**t 90s console wars crap when none of these companies see them as anything more than useful idiots.

2022 and 2023 have been the years of weirdos simping for powerful people that could care less.

These should just be optional accessibility features in a story mode, but sure, more MTs. Yay 🙄

@Dsswoosh Just repeating “toxic political debate” over and over again like a loon doesn’t make it one or indicate that you have any meaningful point. “Don’t care” is abundantly clear and was the unfortunate point.

“I just want to block your merger” was a stupid thing to say. There is no regulatory argument behind that statement and that is a full “mask off” moment. I love my PS5 but this is making me think even less of its manufacturer.

@Dsswoosh Categorizing concern that fueling forces that pivot media coverage and funds received from these products to harm specific communities of people as “politics” is asinine and lazy. Being challenged to understand the ramifications of your consumption of a luxury isn’t “political”. Calling it such has become a common tactic to excuse dismissing answering for that personal responsibility. You’re comparing ignorant rejection of each individual’s social responsibility with subjects like taxes and foreign policy. This perspective to excuse that responsibility is just lazy. Also, gamers have “risen above political toxicity”? Have you not spent a single moment online?

@Dsswoosh I would say it’s not the game itself that is frowned upon. The game is simply a smaller piece of a bigger picture. Though it is sickening to see that it “brings a warm smile” to your face.

I feel like Microsoft is still too entwined in PC gaming for them not to have a brand in it. They already have an effective and widely known brand: Xbox.

There is this strange vibe across the gaming press that a title exclusive to Xbox platforms is some affront to the integrity of the industry and somehow toxic for the gaming consumer but that same strange perspective is somehow not present when discussing the numerous examples of Sony gatekeeping content of cross-platform games and paying for all sorts of exclusivity deals. And no one bats an eye at Nintendo’s massive IPs that are exclusive to their platforms, only occasionally popping up in some half-baked iOS and Android release (hi, Mario Run). Don’t get me wrong. My Switch has provided me with far more gameplay time than my PS4, PS5, XboxOne, and Series X combined. Not hating on Nintendo for how they play the game. But that’s the point. I feel like Microsoft is somehow vilified for even remotely hinting at playing the same game that Sony and Nintendo do.

I want his shirt! And yeah, Sony is really crying wolf with all of this.

@PhileasFragg It’s a bit jarring for sure to see the chaos that is WB. I think Space Jam 2 illustrated how tone deaf they tend to be with their IP. They seriously just view consumers as idiots and IP as money fodder to throw at a wall and hope something sticks. All of that while ignoring the consequences and ramifications of what they do.

@Banjo- Honestly, and I keep saying this, no one has given a single solitary damn about what the employees of ABK think or want in all of this. The move is arguably the most consequential for them and Kotick has been a nightmare for them.

@Sakisa That’s one mistake I think Sony is failing to recognize. If this deal gets blocked, MS will have $68bn (not that it would take that much) to play Sony’s game and just spend the capital to starve PlayStation of 3rd party content.

It’s likely still going to go through considering MS is open to concessions and the US court system has a habit of crippling these FTC moves. Also everyone over at Push Square seriously seems to hold the opinion that Xbox having two Bethesda exclusives is the crime of the century while Sony is free to do the same without consequence and cripple third party showings on other platforms. Even a staff member making “haha fanboy tears” comments. It’s wild.

I think it will. With Nintendo and Valve expressing confidence and trust in MS’s handling of the process, Sony’s protests are starting to look anti-competitive. Especially if Microsoft is willing to sign legally binding deals with Nintendo and Valve.

I have not cared about stupid console wars since I was a child in 1996 and the whole Nintendo vs Sega vs Sony thing was in full force. Since then, I’ve been platform agnostic and have appreciated the different experiences I’ve had on Nintendo, PC, Xbox, and PlayStation systems. Sony’s behavior is bringing back that sneering “Well, **** [insert platform]” nonsense feeling of the 90s I had. They’re making me hope they screw themselves and get the raw end of the deal. Not because I don’t love my PS5, I do. But because this is going from “concern” to simply juvenile and antagonistic.

I’m going to be glad when this deal goes through so we will only have to listen to a few more months of whining. I own all three major consoles and don’t really have a dog in this race but good grief am I done with Ryan’s incessant hypocrisy.

It’s a platform that no matter your political leanings does not moderate death threats or dehumanizing garbage. It’s a dumpster fire. Smart of Phil to expand into more places to reach the Xbox audience.

Honestly, their games being on Switch is smart considering it’s the king of the game in Japan but their titles would be nice on PC and Xbox in addition to their PlayStation offerings. I seriously love my PC / Xbox w/ GP ecosystem. Now if only MS could convince the Big N to let GP come play over at the red camp. But fat chance.

So sick of a company that has done everything they can to keep content off of other platforms for years complain about this. PlayStation is the second biggest enemy of software accessibility in this industry behind Nintendo. Nintendo at least doesn’t then devalue and neuter content that makes it onto other platforms. Empty words as usual from Ryan.

@gollumb82 This. The sanctimonious comments on this subject at Push Square slayed me. They’re okay with PlayStation exclusives, but Starfield and content exclusive to Xbox for multi platform games are crony capitalism and “will destroy the industry”.

I have worked with some incredible folks at Microsoft on their diversity council in the past. There are lots of wonderful people making an incredible impact there. I’m glad to support them to continue making those positive impacts in their workplace and industries. Plus I’m not boycotting Windows anytime soon or I would be out of a job. Boycotting one book series is absolutely a more manageable and realistic avenue to control where my money goes vs a corporation that develops most of the software I utilize to do my job. I’m happily selective about the impact my dollars make being the lower middle class peon I am.

Everyone has every right to weigh the pros and cons of their support and spending based on the level of power their socioeconomic influence can leverage.

If I were the “scumbag billionaire” you speak of, maybe I could leverage that power to fit into the black and white context of logic you have illustrated here but I’m not, so I make what little impact I can where I can.

Not getting this game for 🏳️‍⚧️ **reasons** 🏳️‍🌈 but I have to say that while I’m in favor of console exclusive games, console exclusive content simply makes the other versions inferior while the publisher has the outright audacity to charge the same price on all platforms.

I really like my PS5 but Sony is exhausting.

I wish I had the time these people find to put themselves in the middle of other peoples’ business. Billions of people on this earth and somehow the mathematic impossibility that we are all the same is too much to bear for some.
