There's no contest when Isolation's in the list. I've been playing awful Alien tie-ins since the 80s, and Isolation was the first to nail the atmosphere of the first movie.
I love this game. It's dangerously addictive, and has that "one more cycle" thing going for it. I've spent more time on this than Trek to Yomi so far, which I didn't expect.
I'm about 30 mins into the demo at the moment, and thoroughly enjoying it. Having recently completed Metro Exodus and its DLCs, I was panging for some irradiated shenanigans.
It runs like an overweight sloth on Series S outside of cutscenes. Not to mention making the console sound like it's about to take off. The game itself is OK, but a little too IG to be confused with anything remotely like real life.
It's excellent. The performance outside of cutscenes is a bit sucky on Series S, but all is forgiven when you see the quality of the facial animations. As a story it's fantastic, and to me on a par with the first in the series.
I completely agree. FPS Boost and AutoHDR have really opened up some games for folk. Assassins Creed Unity looks - and finally plays - amazing with the boost.
I've bought around 7 so far. I used to buy a lot more, but it's too much of a gamble that it could appear on GamePass within a week. Plus my backlog is becoming Big Data, so I really need to chip away at it before adding anything.
Seeing Assassins Creed Valhalla, and the Matrix experience run smoothly at 60fps on Series S should be evidence of it being down to devs' capabilities - some being less efficient when it comes to optimisation.
@Roqka I was thinking exactly the same thing. Between Ireland, France and Ragnarok, there's a lot more to see now - if I can handle the entire base game again (my original playthrough was on PS4). I'll get back to you in around 120 hours
I'm happy this month. Sacred 2 is one of my favourite RPGs, and The Flame in the Flood is excellent - played a lot of it on my PS4, so I'm looking forward to going back to it on Series S. My daughter will love Spongebob, so this is also a win.
It was Cyberpunk all weekend for me. My third plathrough on Series S, and such an improvement since the patch. I just wish they'd squeezed 60fps, but there's my reason to upgrade to the X eventually!
It's a pity they didn't drop the resolution to target 60fps, but it's a relatively stable 30 at least. I think the combat would've benefitted from the bump in frame rate, though. I don't mind a lower resolution in exchange.
It runs pretty well on my Series S. I'm on my second playthrough now, but I'm going to hold fire before I go back to it, in case the update drops soon. It'll be something special in 60fps glory.
I already own Mass Effect, but it's a fantastic one to see being added. I've always fancied trying The Outer Wilds, so I'm happy with this drop. Kudos, Microsoft.
I'm burning through Guardians of the Galaxy after nabbing it in the sale. What a spectacular game. It has a fair share of bugs, but it's so good I just don't care!
If I can peel myself away from that, I also need to start a full run of Dragon Age Inquisition. I completed it back on the PS4, but without all the DLC - plus the magic of Xbox lets me play in glorious 60fps 😍
Nice to see Control on here. It's a masterpiece, and is often overlooked.
Unpopular opinion, but I wouldn't have included Forza 5 or Halo Infinite. Neither were as good as I hoped, but I tend to be in a minority when it comes to gaming.
The list only factors in initial review scores. A lot of these have since improved enough to comfortably escape this list.
The GTA Trilogy fully deserves its spot, though. It was a lazy cash grab by R*, who seem to subside purely on nostalgia and decades old releases these days.
To each their own, of course - I know some folk genuinely enjoyed it, but it wasn't to my taste at all.
I've been a megafan since Altair's first outing, and have to say Unity is the "most Assassins Creedy" of the lot. It had issues on release, sure, but all these years later it's incredible on Series S/X with smooth 60fps performance and a fraction of the original issues.
I'm a big fan of the Metro series, especially Exodus - so this is going to be right up my street. That 180Gb install size makes my Series S weep a little, though - I sure hope they stick it on cloud!
Disco Elysium and Control Ultimate Edition were my top picks this year.
My biggest letdown was Forza Horizon 5. It just didn't meet my (possibly too high) expectations. Halo Infinite similarly failed to impress, but it's undoubtedly a good game nonetheless.
It's... OK. Maybe my expectations were too high, but it felt very derivative and the tacked on open world bits flaccid. It's enjoyable enough, but I've played better.
I jumped in late, after several patches but I loved every minute on my Series S. I'd have preferred 60fps, but the update next year should see to that. I didn't experience any bugs, other than minor ragdoll issues. Maybe I got lucky, but I think it's an incredible experience that nails the tone and delivery.
@Richnj I picked it up recently on Series S and it's been fantastic. At its high points it really does shine. Unpopular opinion maybe, but I loved how similar it was to Deus Ex (I chose to play as a Jensen style netrunner, but my second character's more like Chuck Norris with a katana).
I do the daily and weekly sets and they generally don't take longer than 5 minutes. I use my points to buy £5 credit for the store, and drop it on games I wouldn't usually buy. Great way of mixing things up alongside Game Pass.
Yet another Battle Royale to toss on the growing pile that I will never play. The market's saturated with perfectly adequate alternatives, most of which are free - this is a fool's endeavour.
I loved Myst, and its forgotten sequel, Riven. I'd love to also see some Zork remakes. Return to Zork was fantastic, although the old school FMV would probably look awful now 🤣

Re: Atlus Survey Asks If You Want Persona And Other JRPGs On Xbox
I played Persona 5 to death on PS4, but this would give me a chance to try Royal so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Guardians of the Galaxy (1 week after purchase) and ME Legendary Edition (3 weeks).
I regret nothing.

Good old Rockstar. Quick to lighten your wallet, slow to release anything worthy of its contents.
Re: Reaction: Hogwarts Legacy Could Be The Biggest Game Of 2022
This'll shine bright, then burn out fast. Starfield just became the cert underdog.

Re: Xbox RPG Avowed Reportedly Targeting Early 2023 Release Date
I didn't know this was set in the Pillars universe. I just became infinitely more interested after reading that. What an awesome idea!

Re: Poll: Are You Happy With February 2022's Xbox Games With Gold?
Broken Sword's a good one. I played it on the PS4 and enjoyed it - the rest I can take or leave, though. GamePass to the rescue!

Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk for me. I'd actually love to see The Witcher 2 enhanced - even just 60fps, but I appreciate that may not be possible.

Re: Assassin's Creed Origins Might Be Getting 60FPS Support For Xbox Series X|S
Excellent news. Origins was a really good game and fully deserves the TLC. I'll happily return to this one after the update.

Flight Simulator for me. It's a masterclass. Such a shame to see it rank so low compared to the likes of Forza.

Battle Chasers Night War is also there for £5.99. It's a gem of a game if you're into turn based RPGs.
Re: 37 FPS Boosts Added To Backwards Compatible Games On Xbox Series X|S
I'm not seeing the FPS boost option enabled on games like Dragon Age Origins yet. Is this already rolled out?
Re: Intergalactic Adventure Exo One Beams Onto Xbox Game Pass Next Week
Looks very pretty, but it sounds like a glorified tech demo. Hopefully it'll pleasantly surprise us all!

Re: Talking Point: What’s Your Scariest Video Game Moment?
Alien Isolation. All of it. I spent about 50% of my playthrough peering through gaps from inside lockers.
Re: Poll: How Often Do You Plan To Use Xbox Cloud Gaming On Console?
I'll continue to download games up to around 60Gb, but anything bigger I'll be streaming to save space. Looking at you, GoW, Red Dead, ESO et al.

This one got me right in the feels. Excellent game that deserves a bigger audience.
This, and The Artful Escape both blew me away recently.
Re: How To Pre-Install Marvel's Avengers With Xbox Game Pass
I played it on PS4 a while back, and the campaign was much, much better than I'd been led to believe. In 60fps it'll be worth a revisit for me.
The endgame was awful back then, but there've been loads of free content drops since - including Wakanda, which I'm 100% going to play tomorrow!
Re: Four More Games Are Available Today With Xbox Game Pass (September 23)
Lost Words is beautiful so far. And Subnautica's sequel is exactly what I wanted it to be. Loving this batch of additions.
Re: Roundup: Here’s What The Critics Are Saying About Sable On Xbox Game Pass
Its frame rate's dire on my Series S. I'm waiting for the patch. It's intriguing, but the stuttering makes the whole thing feel a bit janky.
Re: Watch Out Parents, Peppa Pig Is Making Her Xbox Debut This October
My daughter's going to love this.
Re: Here Are Your Xbox Games With Gold For September 2021
Not so good for me this month. Chaosbane interests me, but I grudge the Series X updates being paywalled by the Slayer edition.
If the PS+ rumours are true they definitely have the better month, with Hitman 2 and Predator Hunting Grounds especially.
Re: Myst Is Available Today With Game Pass, 'Reimagined' For Xbox
I loved Myst, and its forgotten sequel, Riven. I'd love to also see some Zork remakes. Return to Zork was fantastic, although the old school FMV would probably look awful now 🤣
