EA Sports has today pulled back the curtain on FIFA 23, which will be the last game from EA to carry the "FIFA" name, set to launch on Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S this September 30th, 2022.

The key features this year are the addition of HyperMotion2 Technology (for Series X and Series S), cross-play support with different platforms of the same generation, women's club football for the first time, and the free post-launch updates of both the 2022 Men's World Cup and 2023 Women's World Cup tournaments.

In a closed presentation last week, EA reportedly stated it would be the 'biggest ever' FIFA game. Here's what Producer Matt LaFreniere had to say at the time (as transcribed by Polygon):

“This is our last FIFA-titled game, after a rich 30-year history. So we know that it has to be special.”

Let's start with HyperMotion2. EA says the advancements in the system this year have "unlocked an array of new features making the gameplay experience feel more immersive than ever", making team and player movement more responsive, smart and authentic. There are also lots of other improvements including a new intelligent dribbling system.

The addition of women's club football means that the Barclays Women’s Super League and Division 1 Arkema are represented in the game for the first time, while a free post-launch update will add the New Zealand 2023 Women's World Cup — and we'll also be getting a free update for the 2022 Men's World Cup later this year.

Elsewhere, cross-play will allow you to play against consoles of the same generation, so if you own the Xbox Series X or Series S version, you'll also be able to play against people on PlayStation 5, PC and even Google Stadia.

More details are set to be revealed in the coming weeks, but pre-orders are already live for the Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S versions on the Microsoft Store. As usual, these unfortunately do not support Smart Delivery.

EA SPORTS™ FIFA 23 on Xbox Series X|S brings even more of the action and realism of football to the pitch in The World’s Game, with advances in HyperMotion2 Technology** driven by twice as much real-world motion capture helping to create more true football animation than ever before in every match.

Enjoy a new way to play and build your dream squad with FUT Moments and a revamped Chemistry system in FIFA Ultimate Team™, or live out your football dreams in Career Mode as you define your personality as a player, or manage as some of football’s most famous names.
