Re: Xbox Series X|S Ranked 5th In List Of Platforms Developers Are Most Interested In

@fatpunkslim
I need a PC for home office schoolwork, etc. I don’t need it to have an Xbox logo on it. That’s like buying an IBM PC in 1988 after all the clones came out.
When it’s time to play, I want the best experience with great games and right now PlayStation seems to have the edge.
I also got into Xbox with the Series S, as did the majority of current generation customers. To go from the lower cost option to a very high cost replacement is asking this market to go opposite of what they did before.

Sad but true. My predictions is Xbox will dissolve into the cloud. Sony will hold out, but if you look at their trajectory since the 1990s, it is not hard to imagine them shuttering their gaming division after PS7 or PS8. This is coming from someone who bough a Sony Vaio laptop in 2009. Nintendo will likely retreat back into the pure handheld space, and have to skew toward a younger audience in terms of hardware. In terms of software, they will eventually license out their IP to the streaming kings of the day. There will always be a place for PC gaming I suppose since PC's run the business world, and it is easy enough to do gaming on the side.

Re: Talking Point: How Much Would You Be Willing To Spend On The Next Xbox Console?

kmtrain83

There’s a couple of problems with this strategy and the first is that I need a PC for home office and student use, but I don’t need a second similarly priced fully featured PC for the media room in the basement. If I had to choose, it would be the one in the study.

Secondly, once you go into the PC space you are swimming with sharks, and it will be a race to the bottom for price versus performance. PC enthusiast are very much focused on that ratio, and they will ridicule the console half of the Xbox hybrid as it goes into obsolescence.

Re: Talking Point: Will Any Of Xbox's 2026 Releases Become GOTY Contenders Next Year?

kmtrain83

If you look at upcoming 2026 titles, Xbox is flying under the radar. That could be a good thing, or a bad thing depending on how you feel if these awards are mostly riding a hype train, versus a recognition of quality. I'm hoping for Fable to be what gets me back into the ecosystem, because as things stand I'm drifting away from Xbox once my Game Pass subscription expires in 2027. I might pick up an odd title or two on sale, but that's about it.

@BAMozzy
Hi, you see to have insight into the future directions. Since cross gen titles are still a thing (reference- SW Jedi: Survivor Xbox One physical edition was released in September 2024), when do you predict will be the last physical Xbox Series X release for those of us who aren't ready to buy the NextBox?

@h3s
I played BG3 on PS5, and the controller interface was one of the sticking points. I am waiting to get a cheap copy on PC for an eventual double dip and replay. I would even consider a Switch 2 port with mouse control if that every came to pass. However, I imagine the PC version would have more longevity, and I see myself wanting to play this game again on and off for many years.

Re: Xbox Series X|S: How Their Prices Have Changed Over The Past Five Years

kmtrain83

I would blame inflation, but then I look at how much an Apple product cost in 2019 compared to now and they’ve managed to keep a lid on it. My work MacBook Pro retailed at $2400, and you can get a 2025 version today for roughly the same, or the 15” Air for significantly less. The series S and X are not any faster or better than they were at launch, but they are not depreciating at the retail price level.

Re: Talking Point: What Does The 'Steam Machine' Mean For Xbox's Next-Gen Console Plans?

kmtrain83

@fatpunkslim
I don't have a Steam Deck but I find it interesting the other launchers "don't play well." Of all the things it takes to make a great game, from creativity, coding, play testing, hardware compatibility and performance, support and updates, you would think the launcher would be relatively easy to get right.
It's like having a BMW everything is great, but the ignition switch is off.

Re: Xbox Content & Services Revenue Sees Slight Increase In Q1 2026, Hardware Drops Almost 30%

Microsoft is a huge company, but they did not get this way by being satisfied with 1% growth. They have a duty to shareholders to invest their capital (which is a finite resource) in those areas which offer the best return, and either jettison or heavily modify the areas that do not. They are not a charity, and will not use the high margins from other divisions to subsidize Xbox just to keep us gamers happy, and I would caution anyone who somehow has this notion. Also, insofar as to the sunk costs of the ABK acquisition, they will make that "money back" more by AI, cloud, etc, and not chasing good money after bad with Xbox. Next generation is truly make or break. Perhaps by then cloud and high speed internet will be ubiquitous enough for the Netflix model to work, but I'm not so sure of that, and it would leave many people behind.

Re: Huge Xbox Report Details 'Ambitious' Next-Gen Console With Free Online Play

@jesse_dylan
I'm not sure it is inevitable that Switch 2 will fall behind. The last time Nintendo tried a mid cycle refresh was with the "New" 3DS in 2015, but the software support wasn't there by that point in the lifecycle. Since they merged handheld and console lines, and are now trying to achieve a semblence of parity with current gen (Series S mostly), who's to say that they won't decide to make a "Switch 2 Pro" in 2029? If Sony can and PSSR, Nintendo can add SSSR.

Re: Huge Xbox Report Details 'Ambitious' Next-Gen Console With Free Online Play

@fatpunkslim
Maybe so. I’m still having trouble wrapping my head around the concept, for whatever reason.
I can already attach my desktop PC to my TV, so I’m not sure what this new Xbox offers. Is it just that it auto boots to a controller based UI with a legacy color scheme rather than mouse and keyboard, for me to then Exit to Windows and play my Steam games? Is that enough of a selling point?
Also if I have an Xbox physical library, what happens to those discs?
