Here's How The New Xbox Prices Compare To PS5, Switch 2 & Steam Machine

Yesterday unfortunately brought us yet another round of console price increases, as Xbox admitted that due to the issues around component shortages, they've been left with no choice but to bump the cost of the Series X and S.

We still only know about the US price increases at the time of writing, with all 512GB Xbox models rising by $100 and 1TB models by $150, and there's no getting away from how expensive all of these systems have now become.

Nevertheless, the Xbox Series S still sits alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 as the most affordable mainline consoles on the market today, but the PS5 has now become significantly cheaper than the Xbox Series X. The Steam Machine is the most expensive comparable system out there, although that one's more of a PC than a console.

Let's not forget about the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X as well! Both of these now suddenly look like much better value, especially in the case of the base system that now aligns with the 1TB model of the Xbox Series S.

So, here's a breakdown of all the new prices in US dollars only (we'll have to wait to learn of the Xbox price increases for other regions), with the Series X|S increases going into effect in August of this year.

Xbox, PS5, Switch 2, Steam Machine Prices - August 2026

Console US Price
Xbox Series S - 512GB $499.99
Nintendo Switch 2 $499.99
Xbox Series S - 1TB $599.99
ROG Xbox Ally $599.99
PlayStation 5 Digital $599.99
PlayStation 5 $649.99
Xbox Series X Digital $749.99
Xbox Series X $799.99
PlayStation 5 Pro $899.99
ROG Xbox Ally X $999.99
Steam Machine - 515GB $1049.00
Steam Machine - 2TB $1349.00

If you're wondering, the Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X actually launched at a price of $299 and $499 back in 2020, so they've risen by $200 and $300 respectively over the past six years.

There are concerns that more increases could be in store in 2027 as well, with Xbox mentioning yesterday that console storage and memory prices are expected to double once again by the end of next year.

In other words, if you've been waiting to get an Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S, you probably want to grab one sooner rather than later. And if you've already got one, you might want to take extra good care of it going forward!
