GTA 6 Costs $80, Described As A 'Single-Player Experience'

Seems about right to me with the price point.
I wonder if the online portion will be included or will they charge for it when it releases??
They would make the money either way!

80 is not too surprising. No announcement on the on-line portion yet will drive a lot of chatter.
I'm in the minority of gamers with no interest in this game. November will be about backlog for me, and maybe whatever Devolver releases as the their counter-programming That is the announcement I am really looking forward to

Seeing as Rockstar and Sony have been working together to make "PS5 the best place to play", think I'll wait until Helix.

I think it's mostly controller features for the playstation to be honest besides every game plays best on playstation 5 pro so it's nothing new.
Just because someone else has a version with a couple bells and whistles mostly if not exclusively related to the controller doesn't mean it should stop you enjoying it on your console of choice!

Not shocking but it’s also not my biggest issue with GTA 6. $80 for a code in a box is nasty work. But at least it helps my gaming schedule by freeing up November.

See absolutely no point in pre ordering games these days....not like the days of GTA 4 where it was physical only and it was hard to get a copy of on release

@Skinny-Pete dropped quite a few on remake intergrade and rebirth so currently building back up! Up to 25k now so a decent discount incoming by November 🙏

@Coletrain I think I'm only at about 12k myself but it goes up quickly enough just have to stop the temptation to pick up something on sale with the points between now and release but like everyone I've plenty to play.

For me, the point of pre-ordering was to ensure that I could get a copy on release day (plus if you ordered off of ShopTo in the UK, nine times out of ten it would show up a day early). In this era of digital downloads, pre-ordering has never been more unnecessary. And with day one patches and games launching wonky having never been more common, pre-ordering has never been more of a mug's game.

Even if GTA VI were coming on a disc, does anybody seriously think that Rockstar and Take Two wouldn't manufacture enough to meet demand? This game is going to almost single-handedly increase their year on year revenue and profits a hundred times over.

@FarmDog08 100%, I was very much looking forward to Fable this year and was a bit disappointed that it moved. Oh well, makes total business sense, and I have plenty to keep me occupied in the meanwhile.

Expected. Not pre-ordering, but a day one digital purchase for me.

@Fiendish-Beaver it's just over 30,000 points for a £25 voucher so about £75 by my reckoning! There are weird rules on pre orders with gift cards though so don't do it until under 3 months from the release date. If you do a mixture of cash and gift cards it delays the purchase until 10 days before release, and gift cards have to be used within 3 months of redemption

$80 doesnt surprise me, nor deter me from buying, since i wasnt gonna buy anyway. Not that into GTA and my backlog will be quite large by mid November.

Gotta stock up on all those 3-6 month old games during the black Friday sale.

I am currently sitting on 32,795 which is £25. If I keep at my current pace of £12-14 a month, I should have £70+ by November. Then I will have to decide, do I buy games in the end of year sale, or cash all in for GTA6.

What amazes me the most about GTA6 is we have seen no gameplay but it will break pre order records overnight!

@Markatron84 I think the main benefit of pre ordering digitally is that you can pre load but for Xbox, you can pre load any digital game even if you don't own it lol

I think people know what to expect gameplay wise, albeit with a few tweaks. It'll look great and be a lot of fun no doubt. I just hope they haven't pulled back on the comedy in a bid to appease those "modern audiences" who have no intention of buying the game. Just look what happened to Saints Row - disaster.

@NishimaruX very true but it is crazy that we can pre order something that we know very little about. That goes for a lot other games too, of course.

I just hope Sony and Microsoft have got their servers ready for tonight. I have never pre ordered anything on the Xbox but I know Sony take the money at time of pre order. Rockstar will see a lot of return tonight!

I've never pre-ordered a game myself, but I can appreciate that for tried and tested franchises it's not quite as big a risk as dropping down a pre-order for a new IP.

@Coletrain £10 is 12,400 (without any vouchers) and I am on the new top tier (Gold). The only time it is a lot cheaper (I found) is if you auto redeem £5 each month

@NishimaruX I bought the first 3 and 1 was the best imo hardly played 2 and 3. Gave 4 a miss then bought 5 and hardly played it so my interest in 6 is very, very low. Besides, there are lots of other great games that I'd much rather play.

I'm on the fence on this one. I always enjoy the series but my time spent playing them dwindles less and less with each iteration.

The news has made me develop concern for this game. Hope I'm wrong. Higher cost, no physical edition, and some shops locked behind the deluxe edition.

The entertainment industry has been after the pre-owned market for years - and they're winning.

I nip into my local CEX to pick up DVD/Blu-ray movies and even that is on the decline as streaming channels take over. The games section is shrinking even more daily.

I actually have better luck in charity shops for movies.

I have noticed in my local CEX that the current generation sections are a lot smaller than the previous generations.
I have picked up some crazy bargains in charity shops. Latest one was the entire collection of 'Last of the Summer Wine' for £3.60! 😂

I picked up a mint condition Nightmare on Elm Street 7 disc box set for £3 in one of our charity shops. Bargain!

@NishimaruX I might have been had the 'physical edition', focus on the word 'physical', not been a digital download code in a box and if that's all they can come up with after 13 years since 5 then it's very disappointing. GTA 6 will be the biggest flop in gaming history.

As much as you clearly want that to be the case no, no it won't. Quite the opposite in fact.

For all the belly-aching about price, codes in a box etc, GTA 6 will undoubtedly go on to be one of the biggest selling video games of all time. There is absolutely no question of it.

Cyberpunk was a new IP. Granted from a veteran developer, but a new IP nonetheless. However, Cyberpunk's biggest issue was trying to shoehorn it onto the gen 8 platforms.
I've had it on PC since launch and it was, for the most part, fine. Now it's a phenomenal piece of work.

Hell yeah! Man, November can't come soon enough.

As I say, look what happened to Saints Row. I finished the campaign, but was totally underwhelmed. They'd ripped the very heart out of it.

Volition's attempt to appease a vocal minority on Twitter saw the studio shut down due to Saints Row's disastrous turn out.

Good job I had no interest in it as that price point would certainly kill any interest - pure GREED as far as I am concerned. I won't pay more than £50 for ANY game and I doubt GTA will be so innovative, never been done before game-play mechanics etc. I bet it will be extremely similar to its predecessor, just spent all that time and money on Graphics.

As there are superb stories, games with great Game-play and many many hours worth of entertainment value available in sales, in my backlog etc, no game is worth paying that much just to play it at/near launch. For $80, I can buy 4 or more games in the sales...

If they don't also release a proper gameplay trailer, it would be a crazy ask for people to pre-order a $80 code-in-a-box...

Got my pre order! Ultimate edition came to $140 after tax. November 18/19 gonna be an all nighter! I might do what I did for Witcher 3 and do a 24h livestream for it.

It’s always been mostly conservative grandmas that complain about the immorality of the games content because “think of the children 😭”. And sure you will find some more prudish “woke” people complain, but it’s never been them going to the news and filing literal lawsuits.

Why even bother pre ordering any digital content. There is zero chance of any digital version selling out, and tons of games ship broken or with minimal of features. Civ 7 has massive improved since launch and once the price is right it's a must buy.

Fascinating how quickly everyone just accepts $80 games lol. $100 is the goal BTW and I figure they'll be there in about 3-5 years.

Gamers could literally force game prices back down by simply not buying right away, but these companies know that most of you don't have the discipline for that 🙄

It seems that Rockstar is coping the launch of GTA 5 on the ps3/x360 where the game launches as a single player game.
