Weird West is the only one that would pull me off of the games I'm currently playing. Otherwise I have played what I wanted to play out of that selection.
I really want to love this game as I've been following it for a long time, but it's just okay for me so far. I'm only maybe 90 minutes in, so it may be too early to say too much though. I'm going to play through the whole thing either way, but there are some major flaws in my opinion that I'm seeing already. The combat feels kind of bad as far as control responsiveness - the hit detection just feels off sometimes. The worst part of the game in my opinion is the voice acting - absolutely abysmal, especially the main character. I immediately hate him and wish he would just shut up. He acts like a total jerk for no reason, and not in a funny way. The way the voice actor says a lot of his lines is like he's reading the words for the first time and not really acting, like the flow of speech is just unnatural and the emphasis is off on certain syllables and/or words in the sentence. It's very distracting and immersion breaking for me. Also, there's a part in a tunnel where I was frustratingly insta-killed no less than 3 times, and I still have no idea why or how I died and I guess I just got lucky the 4th time playing the same dumb little platforming section. I think maybe something was falling on me? I just went really slowly the 4th time and nothing happened. 🤷♂️ The story in general is also kind of lame and poorly told so far, but maybe it will get more interesting as it goes on. The game really wants to be like Bioshock or Prey, but it's a pretty pale imitation - at least as far I've seen ~90 minutes in. I'm hoping it will get more interesting as it goes on and some of the imm sim elements will start to shine through, but unfortunately I'm not feeling super optimistic about that at this point. There doesn't appear to be many in game systems to play with or much player choice in tackling challenges. It doesn't seem to fully understand what makes the games its inspired by so immersive and satisfying. The in game world itself seems pretty cool though, and I like the style and setting, even if it does come across somewhat derivative.
I'm playing on PC with a 4080 and 13700k, so I have to say it does look and run extremely well for me at 4k/60fps with everything on max settings. If you're having issues with screen tearing on PC, there are some odd workarounds... If you have an NVIDIA card --> turn on frame generation regardless of if you can/will actually use it, and restart the game --> that will allow you to actually turn on v-sync for some reason, but then you also have to force v-sync on through the NVIDIA control panel because turning it on in the game doesn't actually turn it on. Doing all that worked like a charm for me, anyway.
Mostly Hogwarts Legacy, but I might jump into Gears 5 with the guys tonight if it ends up working out for each of us. I'm going out to California on Thursday to see the new Nintendo World part of Universal Studios, so while I'm still playing Fire Emblem Engage, I'm also sort of saving it for the trip!
I gave it a shot last night and thought it was kinda bad tbh. The amount of time it takes to reset is a death sentence. The visuals are a bit generic as well.
Halfway through Fire Emblem Engage, third of the way through Dead Space, and about a third of the way through FIST Forged In Shadow Torch. FIST is not that great - it's like the more I play it the less I like it. The combat just doesn't feel good to me. I might even just drop it completely because I'm not really having fun with it anymore. FEE and DS on the other hand are both absolutely incredible games that I love every second with.
Got together with the guys last night and played a whole bunch of old Dreamcast games like Power Stone 2, Gauntlet Legends, and Rush 2049. We also played some GameCube multiplayer classics such as Wario Ware, Mario Power Tennis, Kirby Air Ride, and Geist. What a night!
Solo, I'm playing more of F.I.S.T. on PC. Its good so far, but the combat feels a bit clunky - you must commit to your attack moves in a way that doesn't feel fluid or dynamic, but it's not enough of an "issue" to ruin it for me. Also, I learned from Digital Foundry that you have to force the anisotropic filtering outside of in-game settings for this one, and I'm glad I did because it made a significant difference!
This weekend I'm playing Neon Struct and Severed Steel, two very different games with vaguely similar art styles. SS is way too intense to play for long sessions, so having NS to chill out for a minute has been nice. These games coincidentally compliment each other quite well. Might play a bit of Prodeus with the guys tonight - super cool the campaign is co-op.
I got my new PC assembled on Thursday and up and running last night (typing this on it now 😊) so I'm picking up my playthrough of A Plague Tale: Requiem where I left off. Played a bit last night too at a super smooth 4k/60fps on pretty much the highest settings and it was glorious. Can't wait to go through the second half of the game now and seeing everything it has to offer.
I'm about halfway through A Plague Tale: Requiem and still absolutely loving it and everything about it. The only game I picked up on holiday sale was Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy's Edge so I will play through that and Project Downfall which left Steam early access recently and looks amazing. Hopefully I can finish all 3 by the end of the year
I'm about 1/4 of the way through A Plague Tale: Requiem and so far, so good. Playing the PC version for the extra frames. I'm loving everything about it. The graphics and art direction are fantastic, and the story is great so far. The gameplay mechanics are clever and fun, like a cross between the old Thief games and the newer Tomb Raider games, both of which are some of my all time favorites. Good stuff! Highly recommended.
Shadow Warrior 3 got snubbed I see. Also silly to count Deathloop and especially Personal 5 Royale. I realize this is for Xbox only, obviously, but it's still pretty silly to say a game that came out in 2019 is your 2022 game of the year.
I finished the Resident Evil Village: Shadows of Rose DLC yesterday, which was great, and I'm hoping to finish off Gotham Knights today or tomorrow. GK is not as good as any of the Arkham games, but it's still fun and worth playing imo. Looking to start A Plague Tale: Requiem next!
Gotham Knights on PC. I'm on night 5. It's not an amazing game, but it's solid for what it is, and I'm having a blast with it. In fact, I can't wait to jump back in! So far, I'd round up and say 8/10
I tried P4G years ago and couldn't get past how tedious the "dungeons" are. Its just a bunch of samey looking hallways with random enemies and puzzles that aren't fun to solve. Same with Tokyo Mirage Sessions (although I did force myself to finish that one). Does this have the same types of dungeons as those games?
I don't have too much time to play this weekend, but the time I do have will be spent with Arx Fatalis, which is on Game Pass for PC if anyone else is interested and didn't know that. Also, I can confirm that the Arx Libertatis fan patch does work with this version of the game. So far, I'm not super digging it, but its interesting enough. I've only played for a couple of hours at this point, and hoping it picks up a bit and/or I start to see what it has to offer more clearly.
I bought one last year, and use it almost exclusively. I love option to add the rubberized grips. It's hard to go back to my normal controller after using my customized one so much. It's mostly green with black, silver, and white accents. It is beautiful.
Finished the campaign in Splatoon 3 last night. It was okay, but poorly structured overall imo, and the frequent use of insta-kills was pretty annoying. Also, is it just me or is the music in this game a lot more obnoxious than it was in the first two?
Started up Immortality last night. I'm very confused, but also intrigued.
I got super into it and beat Deathloop a couple nights ago. Couldn't put it down! Not as good as Dishonored or Prey, but still very good. I played On PS5 for the gyro aiming and haptics.
I started Metal: Hellsinger last night and could not stop trying to gyro aim which obviously didn't work 😅 I'm going to have to play a different game inbetween to break the habit. Thinking about starting either Omori or Weird West today, but haven't decided yet.
@Cikajovazmaj 🙋🏼♂️ I do. Every time it's an option. It's a superior control scheme. Even if you don't think so, its still an option xbox isn't giving you. Literally Xbox will lose my sale every time a multiplat comes out that has gyro on PS or Switch. It's happened multiple times this generation - Duke Nukem 3D, Quake, and Dusk. I'm sure there are more, but those are games that I personally purchased elsewhere. I can't be the only one out there doing the same. I agree that it's a platform limitation. MS could release a better controller. Until they do, I'll play on other platforms in these instances.
I picked Dishonored 2 but it was a tough choice. I got into their games only about a year ago, but Arkane is easily one of my favorite devs at this point. I own but have yet to play AF and DM - I wanted to try Ultima Underworld and its sequel first.

Re: Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League Shows Off Its Frantic Gameplay, Coming To Xbox This May
This game looks very disappointing to say the least. 8 years in the making, and this is what they came up with? Woof.

Hogwarts Legacy and Fire Emblem Engage. It's going to be a great weekend for gaming.

I was playing FIST Forged In Shadow Torch over the past week or so but I've dropped it for now in favor of Fire Emblem Engage which is amazing so far

I'm extremely hyped for Judas

I had low expectations, but Judas, Jedi Survivor, Bayonetta Origins, Hades 2, Remnant 2, Horizon FW DLC... It was awesome. Best TGA yet imho.

Tunic - 9
Deathloop - 8
Horizon Forbidden West - 8

TMNT Shredder's Revenge - 8
Cuphead DLC - 7
Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes - 7
Gotham Knights - 7
Kirby and the Forgotten Land - 7
Nightmare of Decay - 7
Pokemon Legends Arceus - 7
Splatoon 3 - 7
Stray - 6
Trek to Yomi - 6
Scorn - 4

Just finished it this morning.
4/10
Boring, obtuse, and clunky.
Re: These Eight Games Are Coming To Xbox Game Pass (October 20-27)
Signalis could be cool. I didn't care for Amnesia or Soma, but nice for those who enjoy that type of game, especially at this time of year.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (October 8-9)
Still going through Arx Fatalis as I've had very little time to game this week. I might actually be able to sink some real time into it this weekend.

Kindof bizarre PS+ is getting a better version of the game than the one on Game Pass.

Re: Lots Of Games Reduced By 80-90% On Xbox This Week (September 13-20)
The Darkness 2 and Prey both come highly recommended in you're into interesting and unique FPS games
Re: For Some Reason, Octopath Traveler 2 Appears To Be Skipping Xbox
I liked the first game just fine, but I'm not interested enough to get/play this unless it's included on gamepass or ps+
Re: DOOM-Esque Rhythm Shooter 'Metal: Hellsinger' Announced For Xbox Game Pass This Month

Re: Talking Point: Can You Remember The First Game You Ever Completed?
Super Mario World. Pretty sure. I played a bunch of games before that, but I believe that was the first one I actually beat.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 3-4)
Wolfenstein (2009) on PC. This game is a blast! It's fast paced, not completely but mostly linear, and the RPG-lite elements give it a little extra something without going overboard. Everything about it is streamlined, and while that might not be to everyone's tastes, its exactly what I want right now. I'm having much more fun with it than I did with Return to Castle Wolfenstein which I found to be slow, finicky, and frustrating.
Also playing The Council. I'm on chapter 2.1, and so far it's alright. Interesting enough to keep playing, but I'm not loving it. Playing on PS4 via PS5, and while it's a narrative game, the performance is outright terrible. The graphics and animations are not great to say the least. I'm constantly distracted by how bad it looks and runs. Also, I'm finding there are just way too many skills to choose from and no way to know what's going to be most useful. For example, I might spend all my points leveling up my psychology skill, and then not use it even one time during the next "mission" or whatever. Doesn't feel good. But, the more I play through more intrigued I am regarding what's actually going on plot-wise.
