Re: Rare Investigating Sea Of Thieves 'A Pirate's Life For Me' Achievement Bug

Xeno_Aura

Not really played any of the Tall Tales before in SoT.

My thoughts on this one though, after playing 2/5 chapters of it.

1. The voice acting is of varying quality, some of it is pretty good, some of it is a little off.

2. The theme and set pieces are pretty cool I think, the environment looks neat.

3. Unfortunately, unlike the theme/set pieces, the level design itself is somewhat lacking. The campaign has very very repetitive sections (particularly in chapter 2). There is 1 style of puzzle in Chapter 2, and you have to do that same type of puzzle about 5 or 6 times in the chapter, it's very boring and definitely put in place just to waste time to make the content last longer, it feels like a lot of the design is to do this.

4. Some of the bosses it's not clear if you're hurting them or doing damage, which is quite frustrating as they have a fair amount of health and you aren't sure if you need to be trying something else.

Right now the campaign is teetering between a 6/10 and a 7/10 for me. Hopefully Chapters 3-5 are better than the 2nd, because the 2nd really let it down.

Re: Ahead Of Its Xbox Release, Microsoft Flight Simulator Has Dramatically Reduced Its File Size

@PhhhCough "Your house" will be there in terms of location. Although most towns have generic house/building models of roughly accurate size to portray the buildings. My street for example, has pretty much the correct amount of houses and in the correct places, however it seems to think all our houses are 1 story, even though they are all 2 story. And the houses are typical American style, not British as you would expect for.... Britain...

Only major cities have hand-modelled buildings for the streets, and are fairly accurate to how they are in real life.

Re: Sunset Overdrive Co-Director: 'We Own The IP, Nothing Stopping Us Making A Sequel'

Xeno_Aura

@Sol4ris Sunset Overdrive was an Xbox exclusive when it launched. Which is why some may have had an idea that a future sequel would either be an Xbox exclusive, or at least be available on Xbox. But Insomniac has been bought out since the original launched, so as the article says, it's likely that a sequel would be Playstation exclusive.

Would be a weird state of affairs to have the original launch exclusively on one platform, and then a short time later, launch a sequel exclusively on another platform, it splits the fandom quite a bit, especially as people often tend to stick to their platforms.

Re: Unable To Load Your Games And Apps On Xbox Right Now? Microsoft Is On The Case

Xeno_Aura

@rjc-32 I believe on Playstation, it checks licenses periodically? I've had it where my console was offline for several months, and some games stopped working, while others worked. But if you're online, it checks the license everytime you boot the game and renews it.

Possibly Xbox works the same, when it first connects, it gives you a license that lasts a few months, but it double checks the license if you're online and boot, and if there was a problem with their licensing server, it might have caused an issue. Can't think what else would cause something like this.

Either way, there'll be license verification if you're online, to double-check the home console hasn't changed etc.

Re: These 74 Games Are Getting FPS Boosts On Xbox Series X

Xeno_Aura

@Snake_V5 Depends on the game, some games have "dynamic resolution scaling" which lowers the resolution to maintain a certain frame rate. I don't think this applies to all games, or even most games though.

You should check out the Digital Foundry youtube channel, they have a couple of vids testing out the FPS Boost games, and also mention resolutions.

Re: Pirate RPG King Of Seas Is Getting A Demo On Xbox Today

Xeno_Aura

Thought it was ok on PC.

I feel like where it lost the most was the fact that the factions are fairly ambiguous (Royals, Merchants, Pirates), so there's no nations fighting, and the map is random, so there's nothing recognizable in the game.

I may be boring, but I feel like a newer pirate game based in the Caribbean (I think the last we had in the Caribbean was Sid Meier's Pirates about 17 years ago) would have been nicer, rather than fighting over randomly generated and named places that mean nothing to me.

The game is entirely story-based from what I can tell, and there's just not a lot of background lore to back that up. Doing a story-based game in a random world never seems to work well.

Re: Good News, Forza Motorsport Playtest Invites Are Starting To Be Sent Out

Xeno_Aura

@Senua Yeah, like I said, they don't want to make the mistake Gran Turismo 5 made etc. where they just imported PS2 models from Gran Turismo 4 into the game, it made the game disjointed.

They did the same with Forza 5 when the Xbox One came out. Forza 5 had about 500 less cars than Forza 4 because they scrapped a load of cars and restarted.

They might be taking the time to make sure Forza 8 doesn't go from having 900 cars to 200.

Re: Good News, Forza Motorsport Playtest Invites Are Starting To Be Sent Out

Xeno_Aura

Forza Motorsport 8 will be Fall 2021 if they're doing beta's now already. As it's on the same timeline as Halo Infinite.

Forza Horizon 5 is likely Fall 2022, as they usually release on alternating years.

The only reason both Motorsport and Horizon have missed their usual schedule is likely because they're rebooting for next-gen, which means scrapping older car models, and redoing a lot of it.

Re: Get Ready, More FPS Boosts Are Coming 'Soon' To Xbox Series X

Xeno_Aura

@Would_you_kindly They won't do it with the next-gen version coming in a few months time.

You'll likely have to pay for the XSX/XSS/PS5 upgrade, so they won't be offering performance boosts for the last-gen version.

Content/patches for the last-gen will be starting to die off for GTA V soon probably anyway, as they've confirmed the PS5/XSX version will have more content.

The 360/PS3 version died almost as soon as the PS4/XBO version launched, so I'm guessing the same will happen to PS4/XBO when PS5/XSX launches.

Re: Microsoft Reportedly In 'Exclusive, Advanced Talks' To Acquire Discord

Xeno_Aura

@Murray I can say with fairly high certainty that 90% of PC players use Discord. I've never used Teamspeak, I used Skype many many years ago.

There's a reason why MS is 'reportedly' offering $10bn, Discord is by far the largest gaming chat app around, and it offers text support like IRC, it's used by every major gaming company there is.

Re: Microsoft Reportedly In 'Exclusive, Advanced Talks' To Acquire Discord

Xeno_Aura

It's probably a move towards cross-platform play too.

Most PC players use Discord to communicate, they don't want to use Xbox LIVE Parties and apps to do this.

Having a Discord app on Xbox and not on PS5 would boost cross-platform. Or even if it was on PS5, the money people pay for Discord Nitro features etc. would go to MS as well.

My friends and I have this problem as half of us use PC and half of us use Xbox's, and the PC players don't like having to use the Xbox app so we can all voice chat together, far easier if we all used Discord. And Discord quality and ease of use is better than the Xbox voice chat anyway, which leaves much to be desired IMO.

Re: OG Xbox Creator Wants To Know If You'd Buy A New Classic Console

Xeno_Aura

@StonyKL PC's can play every console game from the PS2 backwards (even a bad PC nowadays), it doesn't make retro versions of all those consoles redundant.

I think there's a difference between playing on a system that can play the games, and playing on a system that's purposefully designed for those games. It can be made to be a much smoother and enjoyable experience, sprinkled with nostalgia, as that's what these consoles are relying on.

Re: Microsoft Flight Simulator Lands On Xbox Series X In Summer 2021

Xeno_Aura

@themightyant There are Simulation Realism settings in Flight Sim, I don't know what affect they have on the CPU, but it basically means things such as Wind/Weather don't have an affect on your plane. I guess if they really wanted to, they could force settings to arcade mode, not simulation mode, and just cut out all of those calculations, but it's a lot of work for them I'd imagine at this point. And it kind of misses out on the spirit of a Flight Simulator.

Eurogamer has said that it's the CPU in the XBO/PS4 that is the problem in Cyberpunk, not the GPU, interestingly enough. Both last-gen systems struggle to get above 25FPS in the game, both dropping below 20FPS in driving and fight scenes outdoors. It was ultimately branded by them as "Unplayable on the base systems". And they recommended you use an Xbox One X, PS4 Pro, PS5 or Xbox Series X|S to play it, not a PS4 or Xbox One S.

Re: Microsoft Flight Simulator Lands On Xbox Series X In Summer 2021

Xeno_Aura

@themightyant Flight Sim is VERY CPU intensive, it's a simulator, there are a lot of variables it has to constantly calculate in order to make the simulation realistic.

In terms of system requirements for the PC, the recommended CPU to run Flight Sim at max is an i7-9800X. For Cyberpunk, the CPU for max is an i7-4790, far far less powerful.

Even to run Flight Sim at the medium levels, MS recommends an i5-8400, which is still above the i7-4790 that Cyberpunk recommends for max.

And as Macca said, if the XBO can't run Cyberpunk properly, it won't come close to MS Flight Sim.
